Doesn't this usually mean he is going and the clubs just need to reach an agreement. This could just as easily be read as the player manager playing hardball on their clients salary demands.

 

It is and continues to be a longshot but i wouldnt read much into these types of statements. Players managers will only feel obligated to comment if something is in the works. Otherwise why bother?

Makes sense.

We already lost Bedford and now Jordon, both players the club wanted to keep, stemming from lack of opportunities as the club sought a second premiership with a relatively stable best 22.

We need to get games into D Turner, Howes, Laurie, Woewodin otherwise we risk losing them.

2024 is the year we have a crack at a player in my view and we should have plenty of cap space to work with.

A reasonable assumption

However, losing Brown, Melksham, Hibberd, Jordon, Harmes and bringing in draft picks you would imagine we have at least some money in the kitty.  Not saying they are on big coin but they would be around double what kids would be on.  And this is assuming long term contracts could be back ended

Would be hard to bring someone in on a big ticket when you have a team that has arguably performed pretty well.

I could see it happening with a key fwd  where most realise it is a desperate need.

 

But it can easily upset the delicate balance of player salaries , expectations etc. Geelong have done a good job of managing it (and we know why...)

The next 3 years in our window (we will still be good after but no Gawn, May, Viney/Trac/Gus past their best)

We need to throw the kitchen sink at anyone good.  I heard from a source I know through a friend of my second cousin's brother in law (kidding but a distant unknown source) that we could be open to trading a high quality player to get a gun key fwd.

hypothetically and not considering contract lengths as they mean little anyway - who would you trade for Larkey?

We don’t need a key forward, we need more class to deliver inside 50 unless something good comes along during trade week I would be moving up the draft and take a couple of kids with good skills

This is why I think we'll focus on youth this trade period and clear out some cap space.

Reason why? I think there'll be an element of truth where we'll go incredibly hard after Zak Butters next year

Wasn't there a suggestion from Kornes or someone in the media that Butters was going to the dees if Hinkley was moved on?
