20% across the full Penfolds range would be nice.

FWIW Bleasdale make some very good value wine.

Agree with the Bleasedale.

The offer is not just for straight Koonunga Hill Cabernet - it is actually for a “bundle” of that wine plus Max’s Shiraz Cabernet blend - a far more expensive wine. The bundles are 3 of each wine or 6 of each wine, and there is a choice of different vintages, all at the same price.
That’s the good news…….the bad news is the website shows them all as sold out! Hopefully they replenish stocks after the weekend, and I for one will be buying….

It was Bleasdale that made the 2021 MFC premiership special edition.  Got a bottle for Christmas a couple of years back and never tasted a better wine.

Can't wait for the 2023 Pentfolds version!

P.S. I nearly spelt edition as addition 😉😂 @Demonstone

Also ,didn't we have another wine company sponsor recently.? I presume this supersedes them.

I thought it was Tyrrell's Wines, but apparently in 2021 and 2022 it was Bleasdale.  We might as well just go through them all I recon.

Second the punter who suggested we need an official cheese sponsor as well.

I noticed in an email that Penfolds has joined MFC as a sponsor.

I tried to investigate the MFC to see what are the terms of this deal, and also whether their were benefits for MFC Members.

I could find NO mention of Penfolds on the MFC website. Perhaps I missed it. Couldn't find anything on Demonland, either.

So I tried googling MFC/Penfolds and found  MFC Members  can  get a significant discount by  using the promo code "MELBOURNE". ( about 18% on certain bundles).

Why has there been so little publicity for such a prominent and desirable sponsor?

Also ,didn't we have another wine company sponsor recently.? I presume this supersedes them.

Surely we should be delighted to have Penfolds on board, and do everything possible to nurture, and perhaps upgrade the association in the future.

I just checked again, and found that Penfolds ARE listed with the official partners.   So the above is not correct, but I still think a little more exposure would be advisable.

Bleasdale Wines was our Wine partner before Penfolds.

I can't wait to get another dozen RBG.👌🇱🇮🏆

I find it odd that whilst Melbourne are trumpeting a new wine sponsor, our captain has been out and about promoting the AFL's official wine sponsor.

(I very much appreciate - and feel vicarious pride - when sponsors choose us, particularly known and respected brands. So, thank you, Penfolds. However...)

Is the $100/$190 'plus delivery', btw?

I've found this situation - same item available cheaper elsewhere (and/or not involving delivery) - with other sponsor products, too. I feel 'doing something for members' is just seen as an obligation of sponsorship, the advertising to the wider football-watching world being the main game.

Then I guess they rely on 'emotion' to move some product to members wanting to support them for their support. There's the possibility the member will then be a convert to that product, I guess (my one uptake in the emotion/conversion regard has been (lots of!) Haymes paint, getting a 5-10% discount (probably borne by the retailer...) despite not being convinced I've got a better product or, certainly, at less cost).

That response isn't likely to 'hold' for wine, though; a highly discretionary, short-life spend in a hugely supplied market. Insurance or cars, on the other hand, might get more permanent member attachment?

Mind you, sponsors potentially lose up to 17/18ths (soon 18/19ths?!) of the football-world market.

What's everyone else's thoughts?

End of my doctorate thesis.

Being a Melbourne partner certainly does influence my choices.  I've painted most of the rooms in the house using Haymes paint, travelling an extra 30kms to shop at their store. I always use Hertz for car rental. The only beer I drink is Furphies Crisp ale. That said, red wine is my drink of choice, but unfortunately Bleasdale never appealed to me. I appreciate that is just personal taste. Penfolds, on the other hand, will be more strongly supported.

I visited NT a couple of years back. Buy Country Road,  New Balance and Maccas occasionally. And with apologies to the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, if my multi gets up, I'm buying a Jag!

A bit more investigation through the club websites show that Penfolds are a 3rd tier sponsor of both clubs.

What's going on here? Are Penfolds with us or Carlton or are they spreading it around?

Probably sponsoring any club where the club's backers spend huge sums on their wine. Backer's get some wine, don't have to appear to be funding the club themselves, Penfolds get cash which they can cycle to the club as a sponsor.  Win win. 😀

I don't mind sharing Penfolds with Carlton - as long as only we get the Grange.

I had 6 bottles of that wine and it was terrible (probably should have cellared them....).  In comparison the Emblem and Team of the Century Shiraz that Tyrrel's did close to a decade ago was pretty good!

One thing is for sure, we all could have used a wine after that game on the weekend.

Perhaps we have different taste in wines, but any wine that celebrates a MFC premiership is like the wine of the footy gods and one to be savored IMHO 😊.

Both Penfolds and Pepperjack have the same owner - Treasury Wine Estates, so not a real conflict I guess.

Fairly accurate summary methinks 🍷😊

Possibly among the best threads 'opened' ...

I must ask however..... where are the Cheese 'partnerships' ??

Seems an opportunity for a purveyor of fine 'boards' also.

Someone is remiss in their perview of corporate allegiances at HQ.. ..   pick up that ball.....

Also.... what is this strange notion of 'preserving' an opened bottle.

The simple rule... you open bottle. You drink bottle...  possibly a carry over to the next day...

Who are these infidels among us...

You want an all-weeker ?...... get a goon bag and be gone !!

Words of wisdom BB.

Wine preserver! What an absurd idea!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
