    I wouldn't discount Kozzies managers involvement in this. his round 1 performance was scary. it's not outside the realms of possibility Kozzie finishes the year as one of the better players in the comp, and if i was advising him, i'd tell him to hold off to get a better deal, even if his intention was always to stay. 

    mind you i think as a club we've probably moved past it being quite as dire when a player leaves, if Koz goes we'll be very well compensated and move on pretty quickly, but i'm sure everyones preference would be for him to sign for 6 more

    Not just employed, he plays for their reserves and was one of their best players in a losing team vs Brisbane VFL this afternoon.

    I have no doubt Nev would be able to give Kozzie the best advice as to any football and personal direction. Nev came to Melbourne from outback WA and spent more than a decade here without any issues about returning home. He would also be aware of the story of Jeff Farmer and his later regrets about returning to WA and of course, the train wreck that was Jesse Hogan’s move to the Dockers a few years ago.

    As I understand it, Nev and Koz aren't uncle / nephew in the same way that he is with Byron. It's a more distant relationship that fits within the traditional Aboriginal kinship system. 

    And I don't quite get Byron's role in this latest development.

    Surely if his opinion carried weight, Koz would have sought it privately or would already know.

    Seems weird that it's part of a publicised pitch.

    I have a feeling that there will be positive movement on this within the next month. There are a few whispers around that I have heard, but that is all they are; whispers. the club is a tight ship these days with very little getting out. Good to see.

    Would not surprise me if the contract was for 3 years with weighting towards the back end. Might even be options attached for the following years leading up to free agency.

    I’m not as worried as other people put it that way. The noise from South Australia in particular Port, to a few parties at this stage is fairly amusing rather than legitimate. Kozzy’s relationship with the boys and in particular Goody, has given the club confidence he’ll put pen to paper. As I said, the money isn’t an issue, and the length is flexible based on what Kozzy wants to do which is a good thing.

    I think Kosi has proven multiple times that he can be trusted to go back home when needed and not lose any fitness or form. He did it when his adoptive mother died, he did it during Covid, and it sounds like he’s done it again while suspended. Because he can be trusted, I am sure the club is also happy to build in some extra “home” time for him round byes, and SA/WA games if possible. 
    I think as a club we’ve been wonderful to him and he’s repaid that ten folds. 
    Of course we were also wonderful to Jackson and it meant nothing, but Kosi is a very different person.

    What I meant there was does he take the 5 years and stay longer in a city he's apparently not that keen on or take 2 years and see haw he feels at the end of that period..

    I needed to check the list 5 times before I knew for sure that he'd been trumped by Jessie Hogan at #36!
    Has to be in the 5-7 range with Cameron, Bolton and Rankine – at least.

    In return, I'm thinking of leaving Dwayne off my Top 40 most watchable commentators list. 😉

    I listened live.

    Russell mention Pickett multiple times during this segment and explained that the only reason he was leaving him out was that he'd missed 2 games.

    He said his next list would have him in.

    But Stringer missed the 2 first games, was MIA in round 3 and had his one good game for the year on the weekend but is in the top 10 🤔

    Nev is from Carey Park in Bunbury, not exactly outback, but I do agree he is someone’s who will consider Kozzie’s best interests in any advice given.

    I was sitting near Byron at Optus on Sunday, good to see him looking happy and healthy and supporting both his nephew and the Dees

    Dwayno is the most infuriatingly biased and clueless commentator there is. I cannot stand him one iota. Has no clue and cannot believe his contract with SEN gets renewed every year. 

    This list of his is so far off the mark it’s not funny. I mean he has Dusty in the top 10 and Trac and Oliver sitting outside of that.. 

    Belongs in the same sales bin at Target with JB and BT.

      Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

    • REPORT: West Coast

      On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
