If I'm getting one interstate footy trip next year I'd rather put my resources into doing a red centre trip. Maybe even stay 3 or 4 days and see everything that this place has to offer that most people don't get a chance to see.

Give me this over winging on to Adelaide for a pee wee interschool sports carnival atmosphere.

Just assumed that clubs that play each other in Gather Round will play each other again, as there is actually no genuine home team in the fixture i.e. - the home team doesn't collect the gate proceeds.

I could be wrong and we once again play Essendon just once.

Yeah I didn’t take into account that this is essentially an extra round but then again we’re talking about the AFL so logic goes out the window.

Good chance we will play them in the match where they unveil their new stadium and only let Geelong members into the game.

I believe we are playing Geelong at Kardinia during the Adelaide Gather Round..........

I would have thought this too but in a much more derogatory way in that it's such a low rent event that barely qualifies as AFL round standard. They would need to play each other again to make up for it 😛

Im surprised the AFL is not playing the Magic round at Kardinia Park with all proceeds going to the Cats. Of course Geelong would have the choice of which team they would like to play.

Degree of interest is rather low but wondering how double headers work ticket wise

If it's one ticket for both games then the crowd for one of the games will be low I suspect.

Interesting that we got a graveyard slot TV wise

Still trying to work out the whole point of this “Round 5” Circus.
Yes it is an extra Round of Footy, but why would South Australian’s go to games with Victorian Clubs. SA hates The Big V

It just don’t add up….

I was wondering that too. We are the double header to the Port game. Does that mean the premium seats will be unavailable/empty.

As long as the $500,000 cheque clears I don’t really care.

I'm interested in that question too.

The media release says each game is free for members or $30 for the public so if you take it on its word, the ticket for the double header does not include both games and that the crowd for the Dons V Dees game would need to vacate the stadium, before allowing the Port V Dogs crowd in.

Who knows?

Extract from AFL official statement:

https://www.afl.com.au/news/871060

Tickets are not tiered or classified, so prices are capped for all matches in any seat in the venue and for all matches at the Adelaide Oval multi-day discounted passes will be available.

It's an "Event" purchased by the local State Government just like they purchase conferences, theatre, festivals etc. The economic benefits to the local city are hard to prove but it has been the way of things for around 20 years now.

Will it work as an "Event" and pack out the hotels and restaurants... probably. You only need just over 5000 travelling fans for each team and you have almost 100,000 visitors

Truly the AFL are becoming more and more stupid as the days roll by.
If it has a $$$ to it they will implement it.

Process of elimination for those wanting to book to go to Alice Springs for the Dees vs Giants game.

Gold Coast are playing Adelaide on Saturday June 3rd in Round 12.

Currently we are only listed as playing the Giants in Round 16 with no set date. Round 16 should be on the weekend on Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd of July.

It's the modern day Timezone arcade and as long as the kids keep pumping in the $2 coins it's all good!

Thankyou afl for putting us up against Essendon for the gather round. Hopefully that's the only time we play them & I don't have to sit amongst there arrogant annoying supporters because I have no intention going to Adelaide

Flights to Adelaide ONE WAY From Melbourne Round 5 Weekend

$600 as of now

I daresay Hotels will also jump on board.

Will fans pay these prices or just watch it on TV?

Well, again, that’s one less game in Melbourne I’ll go to next season.

So between our Red Centre announcement and this I’m down 2 games of footy in 2023 I was hoping to see live.

What a gift this drip feed of the fixture is.

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
