Hence why I believe it was a weird decision to get him in with what they paid for him.

He didn't fit their team balance.  they already lost 1 decent ruck when bringing him in plus other first 22 players.

Nothing new here. He's primarily a ruckman and they already had a top level ruckman. The big issue from Freo's perspective is that they basically gave up last year's 1st round pick and this year's 1st & 2nd round picks to get him. I assume this was based on the expectation that they would improve in 2023 and possibly make Top 4. I don't think they'll finish Bottom 4 but after last weekend's loss could definitely be as low as Bottom 6.

If Collingwood finish top and we finish fourth it’s the same as the other way around. Maintain our position and avoid an interstate first final. Up to us to stay there. No benefit for us in finishing higher. Just hope Port stumble a bit and Collingwood keep cruising.

the preference is the pies at the G for sure but if it comes to it I have no fears of playing Port at AO either. They have [censored] the bed there in finals matches in recent years so we can be confident of beating them.

I understand Collingwood are playing Fremantle next weekend but reckon these posts belong under the Run Home Thread.

If they don't keep losing talent perhaps.

A lot of noise about Darcy leaving to go to Jeelong.

They still need a proper fwd line, I don't think Amiss is a differential player, he may be solid but won't be a Cameron or Hawkins level forward.

Could become a Fritsch type and style player, reckon he's got some quality attributes.

Without knowing how we rate the other highly rated kids vs Reid, I like the idea of focusing on getting as many good first round picks as possible to give the list a bit of a refresh rather than selling the farm for 1 player

Think we should be happy with what we'll eventually get draft pick wise but if there's s chance for H. Reid. Get him. I'd love to have him on our list.

On the eve of the Collingwood vs Fremantle game it’s heartening to see the Dockers’ first pick listed at #5 in the current draft order from Zero Hanger.

Hard to see them improving enough for that pick to slip higher - my ladder prediction shows them finishing 15th = #4

As for us losing to them, it was the same as last year when Freo has that purple patch of wins and then dropped away.   We should have won, but didn't.

Interesting to see what free do at the end of the season.

Even more interesting in the approach they will now take till the end of this season, will they continue to push hard and experiment with new players/setups ready or next year.

Are you talking about Melbounre and grundy??

The sacking of Dew could be excellent for the death riders.
It might put a rocket up GC to win a few more and get ahead of Freo on the ladder… and GC play a few teams pushing for top 4 as well.

Serongs suspension has been upheld.

He's been one of their best players this year so a big loss for them this weekend.

He would look good in the red and blue. I wonder if Freo would take pick 4 and 22 in a trade for him 😁

  • Richmond don't have their 1st pick so won't be looking to 'lose' games.  They play the bottom 3 sides so are more likely to go up not down the ladder.
  • GC have many winnable games, depending on which GCS turns up
  • Dockers don't have their 1st pick and will be desperate to win games but doubt they will win many as they play the top 3 teams and last year's premiers.
  • Swans have a softish draw so will probably go up unless they put the 'cue in the rack'...

It looks like Freo will deliver pick 4 or 5 - more likely pick 4. if GCS win a few to impress a new coach.  Their second pick # 23/24 which we hold, will slide due to the number of Academy players in the top 10/first round.

He's been the 'play starter' in their midfield this season. Reckon they get smoked even more without him.

I really hope that in the last round the Swans aren't in a position where they can't go up and therefore affecting there draft position so that they just lay down for us. We also don't want them to go down (below Freo) by us beating them.

It will probably be Buddy's final game, packed house at the SCG so they will be highly motivated and go all out to give him the send off he deserves.  Often forgotten in the GOAT discussions.

By then I think we will be locked into 4th so the result of the last game won't matter.

It could be Longmire's last game as coach too. What is his contract status? He may hang up the whiteboard.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
