What if we ignore the draft entirely and package up our 2 first round picks in a trade for Ben King?

I'm not sure, but where have I heard about a trade like that in the recent past?

Dunno Flash, I'd love to have him but not sure how many Texas-sized checks we have left in the kitty!

Would probably require someone like BBB retiring a year early

So ideal scenario is WC last, Richmond 17th and Freo 16th?

However hard to see both NM and Hawthorn above Richmond and Freo.

No the ideal scenario is Freo finishing last...not likely but ideal non the less.

Unfortunately the tank is on at both West Coast and Hawthorn whereas Freo and Richmond have nothing to gain by finishing as low as possible. So I think pick 4 is the absolute best outcome we can hope for.

West Coast, Hawks and Norf will fight to the death for that spoon. We play Hawks twice and Norf once more… so good luck to us if we think Freo finish bottom.

LOL.  The bf Freo board has a thread called 'Roast - Vent Here'.

They must be wearying - just little wimpers this week rather than the earlier maddening rage.

Very interesting game this week. Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part but I give the hawks a big chance. They’ve been playing ok particularly in the first halves of games before fading in the second. A good start against freo and who knows.

I’ll be glued to this game on sat night

Ah yes, the acceptance phase.

You might want to load up on booze or something. It’s going to be a very ugly poor quality game! 😆

Jackson v Frost should be a fun watch

looks like darcy might miss with injury this week, so dog will undoubtedly star as a starting ruckman

And Freo might then realise that he is in fact a ruckman. Damn.

Will be interesting if that happens, will leave Longmuir with a very difficult decision. Do the Hawks even have a ruckman of note?

If Mitch Lewis learns to kick straight he will be unstoppable. One of the best contested marks in the game at the moment.

He might not be of note, but the Hawks have Meek, the ex Docker ruckman, who dominated against Casey for the Box Hill Hawks.

Whenever I watch the Hawks play, their ruckman, Reeves I think he is, seems very ordinary.

Freo are slops. Hawthorn have had a few close games but if Freo spank them then posters are right about hawks tanking. If fatso Darcy is out then Hawthorn has to be something of a chance.

Freo will probably win otherwise Longmuir will be lynched outside Fremantle Yacht Club.

I just saw this on Zerohanger. An utter disgrace.

Let's go WC tank!

Hoping the Eagles tank is a heavier Soviet era model.

Managing their best players for a winnable game! I wasn't sure but I think it's absolutely obvious now that they are tanking.

I just hope that rotten club languish at the foot of the table forever more. Serves them right. And i hope North and the Eagles finish below them.

In fact, I hope they go bankrupt. That way we won't have to put up with their insufferable supporters and God awful guernsey.

Managing players at round 8 when you are slop? Breust needs managing? For what... Finals?

I bet nobody at AFL house will even blink an eye about this very obvious case of tanking. That only happens to Melbourne.

Freo by 10 goals.

Hawks are expert tankers with a demeanour of ‘how dare you say we do what we are doing’…

ND4 the best outcome for us. Which is great.

Sam Mitchell is a genius. Nobody else can see the brilliance of his thinking.

I, for one, applaud the innovation of coming into a winnable game and 'resting' your leading goalkicker.

This also means that this is the first game since 2008 where Hawthorn haven't fielded any premiership players.

Official end of an era.

Breust you could understand, but Jiath is a kid.

The tank is on...funny if Freo still blow it.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
