I don’t understand the passion (and page volume) in the Jeffo debate.

He might work, he might not.

Either way he won’t be the difference between us being great and us being [censored]. He’s not Wayne Carey, I think we’ve seen enough to be confident of that.

Trouble is that whether you have seen ( have no idea what you really have seen actually ie. all of the last half of his Casey games ?? )

Also what Jeffo has shown up to now by his age and development will only be a tip of the iceberg compared to the finished product.

So in fact your statement is completely incorrect in what effect Jeffo may have in the next 2, 5 or 10 years in his Demons career.

Fat shaming 58er 🥴

Can’t see why you think that merely comparing Jackovich and Jeffo body and physique.

No shaming at all there and none was intended.

Your call entirely Neit.

I'd be surprised if the presence of MJ doesn't make JvR a better player.

An aside: have they played together before? Maybe the NM praccy match.

Anyway, not relevent here, but another reason not to have JvR rucking at centre bounces. Keep the two deep forward or thereabouts.

I think he has the attacking skill set, can judge the ball to reach at its highest point, good kick with some attacking handpasses. Defensively he just needs a bigger tank. He has speed but not quite there to get to more contests and stop his defender running off.

A good debut. keep him in for a few weeks.

Getting that first game out of the way, is a big step in the player's confidence that he belongs.

Of course you don't want to put in a stinker, but a reasonable game first up, would do wonders for the player.

Jeffo has the talent and will power to forge a senior career.

This week in better conditions against lesser opponents, will be a big opportunity for him, which hopefully he makes the most of.

My biggest worry is his intensity is of Josh Schache like.

This is my worry as well

I think he has gotten better at this but there were moments where he put a flailing arm out to try and stop a player rather than go a full hearted body check.

It's a watch for me but I worry you can't train this stuff. You either invite/seek contact or you don't

I didn’t see those instances. I did see a guy continually get to the spot and not manage to mark in amongst a pack. I thought his competitive stuff was really good for a first gamer

If Jefferson or AJ were going for a loose ball I'd be pretty certain who would get it.

most likely 50 - 50

It was encouraging to see him continually landing on his feet after a marking contest. Says a bit about his core.

A good debut from Jeffo who was our most effective forward in difficult conditions

While I do agree you need competitiveness to make it in the AFL, I  think we tend to misinterpret what it looks like and needlessly put a line through players when they don’t show ‘aggression’ or ‘mongrel’

Jeffo actually had a solid pressure rating and consistently brought the ball to ground and corralled his defender, while also positioning himself to score on a few instances

Yes he’ll never be as physical as a JVR or AJ, but I’d argue he’s more skilled and has better forward craft than either

Let’s let him play to his strengths because God knows we need as many high skilled players as we can get

The kid clearly knows how to kick goals, has good instincts, reads the ball well and competes in the air. They've clearly selected him believing these attributes that he's been building upon will translate to more scoring from our forwards.

Also think the idea and we saw it on the weekend was he was able to free up Fritta to play other roles including swinging him back late in quarters as a loose man but also to work up the ground more to play the modern day CHF role as a link-up player and push into space to be utilised for his excellent foot skills for forward entries. I think on a wet day it didn't work too well as we weren't able to rebound quick enough with GWS filling space across the ground, but I expect to see a lot more of Bayley working into space further up the ground against North on a dry deck.

He is a bit quicker than I thought too

I went to one of the open training sessions over summer. A dozen or so players were doing ~150m sprints along the boundary while most players were doing match simulation. I'm from an athletics background and thus quite interested in the players running technique and ability so I watched closely (I'm rather dull like that).

Looked like they'd been instructed to run hard but not all out. The player who impressed me most was Jefferson. Not only was he fast but - unlike most the others - he was nicely balanced and moved very smoothly. I imagine that translates to being better able to mark on a fast lead.

If he can build a good aerobic base he could be a very effective high forward by getting away from his opponent on long leads or out sprinting them when running back to goal. With his height, he could become a difficult match up.

There are a few "ifs" with Jefferson but plenty of potential there too.

Ditto second and third efforts.

Needs time. Still a couple years away. Has all the tools to be a special player. But needs to mature.

One thing I really like about him is he times his leads really well.

And he's pretty quick so he gets into space.

If he can stick some marks he'll get some looks.

One way to speed Jeffo is to give him plenty of experience in the AFL. He has enough tools to compete and mix it and learn at the same time.

KDL You ate talking about a journey of 3/5 years before he might be near the finished product but in the meantime he will develop his game and add competitiveness and extra skills to his performance.

Might like some/ most have a low period/s but he has special forwards talent as a base which will keep him in the game and team for a strong number of games.

Very promising debut like most of the debutants. Lots to like about each on their first outings in the big time.

I was definitely worried about his competitive instincts but his first game was a positive on that front. He needs to keep playing and building belief. It’s going to be interesting watching him this week against lesser opposition. If he can clunk a few marks and kick 2-3 goals it’ll do his confidence the world of good. We just need to get on top through the middle as that’s where North can potentially challenge us. Big week for the leaders.

Comben isn't really lesser opposition

I’m talking about the North team in its entirety. If our mids can get on top and move the ball with some pace it’ll make our forwards day a lot easier.

Thought Jeffo was pretty good, liked his positioning, pressure after the ball went to ground and his chasing.

It was clear that his physical frame will need time still as he was pushed off the contest and couldn't stick some tackles at times, but you'd take over not showing any forward nous which I think he showed enough to develop into a good player.

agreed. good athlete and hes quite tall at 197 cm. he is an aerial threat and helped keep GWS from taking easy release marks in their backline.

Be interesting to see how he goes in perfect conditions on Sunday. HIs 2 senior games this year have been on days when the weather hasn't been ideal.

Really liking that he's an accurate shot at goal and seems to have footy smarts.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
