Realistically, how much would it cost to setup an AFL reserves competition? Like how much more than the current setup?

Are you including SA and WA?

You probably need an extra 15 players on the "Reserve List". What is the incentive for these players. Do they ever train with the AFL listed players. At one stage Collingwood reserves were begging for players.

My take is that there simply isn't any money or desire to re-invigorate the competition.

Another point I used to make is that there is little incentive to grow crowd numbers. If they do that stadium providers (mainly local councils) need to pay for more facilities (toilets, grandstands etc)

JvR improved as day went on..some impressive "clunks".

Schache let himself down when, with less than a goal in it, with the ball in contest in their forward half, he thought he would protest the absence of a free kick to him, rather than compete for the ball. Richmond possession.

Casey players:

Burgoyne did similar to Schache early in game when he nonchalantly jogged along behind a ball that looked like it might go out. It didn't. Richmond waltz in, grab it and goal.

Goonan competed very well. As always, Munro in it all day. Mitch White was missed and is needed back in team. George Grey injured early, little impact but very clever goal late in game. Roan Steele competed quite well, marred by a sloppy return of ball to a Richmond player which resulted in a 50m penalty to tigers and a goal.

Team will improve on that performance.

I thought James Jordon was BOG, controlled most of the game with Munro, but we missed White and Luke Dunstan in the middle.

At 3QTime the coach said he didn't care what the scoreboard said - that was the truth. We gave up a 4 goal lead going with the wind. Schache was very good early. Varrell rucked manfully. Hibberd had a lot of the ball, but seems now behind Bowey and McVee. Disco Turner, as usual did some nice things. Kye Turner tried in a different role this week, a bit more forward - shows promise. Sestan quiet in that high half-forward role.

Van Rooyen always competes hard, but Schache showed how he (Schache) is a bit cleaner around goals.

I may have been in error in attributing the sloppy return and 50m penalty to Roan Steele. If so, apologies to young Roan.

Finally.

but how bad was the techno robotic music. Ouch. Surely these some better tunes in rhe clubs Spotify playlist !!!

Am I correct that Casey are playing a practice match against Coburg tomorrow evening at home? If so has anyone got any information on the squad?

I would like to see if Frisch and Viney are to get a run.

Nothing worse than goal highlight packages that only show the set shot and ignore the actual intersting part of how the player recieved the set shot.  Was it a towering pack mark, a exquisite pass to a strong lead or a down the ground free?

Practice Match of 4 x 25 minute quarters today at Casey Fields at 6:45pm

This cuts across my work so I can’t make it to the game but I will try to get the scores relayed to me and posted here. I will also post the teams if I can get hold of them.

What we really need to find is some local (or far away) Demons dedicated enough to the cause to turn up and report on the game.

Couldn't get through to MFC for some more details about this game. Found the Casey club contact and was told the match is against Coburg tonight. They couldn't tell me if Fritta was playing though 🙂

The unfurling of the flag will be at Casey Fields before the start of our VFL round 1 match versus the Dogs.

For lunatics like me (and many in the DA) it means going straight to Casey from the airport having arrived on Saturday morning from our AFL round two match vs Lions at the ‘Gabba on the Friday night.

Bugger having such a successful Club… so many unfurlings to squeeze in  😂

Yep, you need both in a highlights reel. I remember a few years ago AFL media would do the other way round and only show the mark before the set shot and not the kick.

Coburg have not been stellar in recent times

Hopefully it's not a massacre

It could be a massacre but, based on the selected side, not what you might have been expecting when you posted.

Looking at Casey’s ‘outs’, the selectors have taken out all MFC players from last week as well as seven of the top Casey regulars. Skipper Mitch White was also missing last week and is still out - as is Finn Emile-Brennan.

Next week should see a much stronger Casey Demons -

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
