Good coach and a decent bloke. Getting the sack 2 months after extending is just amateur hour

Did the best he could with the list available. Reckon their head recruiter should be getting the chop before him

This is Yze's opportunity but you never know with this Saints executive. Tough gig but someone has to do it.

And if Yze does leave we could do worse that Ratten as senior assistant

Completely agree. His first gig as a coach was with our midfield and he did a great job.

Yze would be mad to take this job.  Expect to see St Kilda, Hawthorn and North prop up the ladder for the next few years

You'd think Robert Harvey would be their preferred choice to replace him.

If he lands de goey we keep him if not ensure we keep it quiet till after trade period so players don't walk out

Ratten was a good coach at Carlton who got nowhere because their recruiting was awful and their list just ran out of improvement.

I think he did ok at St Kilda but someone has to take the fall for their lack of list strategy apart from load up on players other teams didn’t want.

It probably wasn’t Ratten’s idea, but a coach has to give direction to their football department and if it’s the wrong direction they need to get out.

Its a shame for Brett because he’s 100-1 to get a 3rd shot at it but it’s hard to argue it was either sack him now or sack him in June.

Maybe the Saints will put Ratten on their rookie list?

If they can't find a coach, they can pop him back in the coaches chair.

You would have to think they have someone lined up for the job, unless the players have approached the board. Something does not sit right with this.

Could be worse - Footy Classified

Joke of a club.

Footy classified is for sacked coaches with HR complaints made against them!

Bassat sounds like a tool of the highest order. Ditto Lethlean.

“I also want to address the issue of the extension of the contract.

“We gave Brett assurance at the start of 2022 that we would give him clarity mid-year.

“At the time, the team was winning games and in contention, and we wanted to give Brett all the support he needed to give him the best chance of success and to show that he could be our long-term coach.

“If we as a Club have regrets about that in hindsight, we cannot let those regrets get in the way of making the right decision for the future.

“The Football Review has affirmed that while we have made improvements, there is still a big gap between where we are and where we want to be, and that we have a lot more work to do right across the Club to create a culture that drives sustainable success.

“We do not yet have the winning culture or ruthless commitment to football excellence that we need.

“Our Club is hungry for success, and we believe a different type of leader and a new voice is needed to take us on the next stage of the journey.

They'll some excited new rookies being picked by the saints next month, not...

Saints had their problem but it looks like the board had concerns but never raised them so Rotten could respond during the season.  he can get great efforts from the team and other times, nothing.  Is that a culture thing at the saints?  We have been through that late season collapse many times.

Is there an administrator more appalling than Simon Lethlean? Rhetorical.

There was a point in time when Carlton (as a power house) used to send St Kilda all of it's off cut players. Now it's the AFL. Finnis and Lethlean. There's another but I can't think who it is.

Lethlean shouldn't even be in the industry imo let alone the new CEO. It's jobs for the boys big time over there.

Yse and Ratten can swap places if Adem gets appointed. Love to have him back as the midfield coach.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
