Apparently Anthony Munkara is a massive Indigenous talent from the Tiwi Islands. He is also part of Essendon's NGA, but will easily be picked in the top 40 in this year's AFL Draft.

Here is a link about him: https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/anthony-munkara/

It was also reported that he kicked 9 goals and 6 behinds in a school match over the weekend. While I understand it is only school football it does show he knows how to kick a goal.

I also found a highlights video of him on YouTube here:

Does Anthony Munkara remind you of anyone? Personally, I think he definitely reminds me of Liam Jurrah especially in regards to way that he moves. Nevertheless, he is certainly a very exciting draft prospect. Fingers crossed that the Demons might have a chance of recruiting him in the 2022 AFL Draft.

Munkara missed a massive amount of the season with injury.

In days gone by I might’ve wondered whether Essendon told him to sit out so he gets past pick 40. Lack of exposure should see him get to that range now, but there was a lot of excitement around him coming into the season.

Anthony Munkarra has grown in height.

He is about 190cms now.

I don't wish to stereotype, but just the way he moves reminds me so much of Liam Jurrah, it truly is uncanny.

Here is another highlights video:

He looks slightly more explosive than LJ to me.

He does have the Jurrah likeness. In this video, he is just a little slower than Liam but his ability to turn on a sixpence is very similar, his kicking is good, his anticipation of the ball greatly improves his marking and he takes a goal very seriously - as if on a mission! One to watch, get , train, integrate, develop.

Would love to see us take a punt on an exciting player like Munkara.  Especially with Jackson leaving who definitely has X factor.

Would think it would be unlikely.  I head Dimma Hardwick talk at a function recently and he mentioned teams are built up of structure and unstructured players.  At the tigers they have Martin and Bolton as their unstructured players.  They've tried to play Sydney Stack in the same team but it's too many unstructured players.  I reckon that's part of the reason players with this X factor aren't always drafted in.  It's easier for coaches to structure their game plan around players the are boring and predictable.

Thanks for this mate.

RE the idea of structured and unstructured players, I reckon we clearly had too many structured players and not enough unstructured. Certainly forward of the ball anyway.

Personally don't see the Jurrah connection. (Not being PC: thought Liam Ryan looked like a cross between LJ and Farmer). Highlights don't really impress, considering the standard. Would be surprised to see go before round three. That said, I'm all for taking a punt on a couple of project players this year.

Bit of an update on Munkara and some context on why he dropped off the radar for a big chunk of his top-age season:

"Munkara has been back home, out bush on Bathurst Island, for most of the past few months, having returned because a series of family tragedies happened in a short period.
Determined to impress scouts and realise his AFL dream, Munkara left the Tiwis and went to Melbourne to attend the draft combine at Marvel Stadium on Friday."

“He’s enormously talented, but he’s had a year you wouldn’t wish upon anyone,” West Adelaide talent manager Paul Streatfield tells News Corp.

“I just hope that a club’s seen enough in him to give him a shot because in the right environment, if he’s got some stability around him, he’s going to be a pretty handy asset.

Article goes on to say that his family are all Bomber fans, but he'd happily go anywhere and that Richmond have shown some interest.

A prodigious Aboriginal talent.

There's no way he lasts beyond the top 40 in this year's AFL National Draft.

Imagine Munkara after some AFL-level conditioning, coaching and skills adoption ... he is already a noted talent.

If he was available, he'd be my Pick 13. Put him through the Casey academy to season his play to our needs, then let him go for it in the big time.

Certainly looks an amazing talent, in this company.  Nothing remotely approaching AFL pressure but one can only work with what one has. I would hope our guys and development team would have a good look at him and make their call.

The difference between the life where he comes from and a chilly winter in a city of 5 million could not be more stark. Its tough for anyone to deal with

The standard of footy in all of these clips is pedestrian at best. It is not a true reflection of his ability, be it good or otherwise

He won't be used for our 13 or 37. IMO he's a late pick or rookie, in which case Essendon will be in the best position to judge due to him being tied to their academy.

Sorry @Supreme_Demon, but he's a pass

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
