I'm going to throw up a total hypothetical trade idea without any knowledge of if there is any truth to this.

Dees: Aaron Naughton

Dogs: Rory Lobb pick 13, Pick 32

Freo: Luke Jackson

Jackson worth>Naughton worth IMO

(let alone chucking in a 2nd rounder as well)

I see your point, just don't think the Dogs would even give it a second glance unless we offered overs to be honest.

his contracted status creates a bit of a headache in terms of getting any trade done, i reckon there is a live possibility they'd say no even if Naughton did request a trade, which is unlikely to happen if it hasn't already

Yep, fair point. I don't really see us having a chance at him barring the long shot of him being one of the players who (apparently) doesn't like the culture and sees a split in the group.

Now, should we still be shopping at the end of 2024, Naughton not re-signed, and Ben Brown finishing up with us.....

Not a chance. LJ may have potential to become a better player, but that is looking unlikely based on this years performance.

If we could do this trade then I’d take it take and run. However LJ is worth more than 13 and 32.

I’m still trying to get my head around the Dogs pitch to Lobb. They’ve told him that they want him to be their no.1 forward target. I don’t get it.

Pick 32 is our pick.

Jackson and 32 for Naughton is clearly overs.

Ok that’s enough for me, I’ll leave you guys to it. 🛌

Maybe but if we finish up losing Jackson and replacing him with Naughton and Grundy I’d say that’s a pretty good outcome

Your bias is blinding you there, I’d take Naughton as a straight swap for Jackson in a heart beat

LJ big contribution to us being Premiers....worth more than Naughton.

Anyone that wouldn’t take Naughton for Jackson is dead set mental

Too many on this site have been smokin "Wacky Tabacki" Aaron Naughton to Dees is Alice in Wonderland stuff!

Sure, with Jackson leaving I'd be happy if Naughton replaced him, but what I said was "worth", and IMO the market worth of Jackson is higher than Naughton.

Of course, you would note that in the trade scenario we'd be trading Jackson AND a 2nd rounder for Naughton.

Would need to take in the whole big picture of everything, but yeah absolutely.

Jackson - Pick 3, Rising Star winner, Premiership player, 20 years old.

Naughton - Pick 9, 22 years old.

I get it, I really want a key forward too and obviously people have 'turned' somewhat on Jackson on Demonland, but you guys are kidding yourselves if you think their worth on the market is the same.

I would do that deal in a heartbeat. Naughton is a gun and draws a lot of attention from (multiple) defenders and can take an almighty hanger. And he is still young. He can be the main guy whilst we slowly introduce even younger guys like JVR. Allows JVR/Fritter to be 3rd/4th tall next year.

Surely this rumour is nowhere near the truth though...

Why does their pick they initially went at matter?

Given their ages it clearly has an impact, albeit not a main one, on their worth on the trade market.

Again, would love Naughton, be unreal for us, but in terms of trade market worth Jackson would be higher IMO. As good as he is, I don't see any clubs being willing to offer 2 top 10 picks and a million a year for him.

Fair enough - we all have different opinions on players. But I maintain the pick they went at initially should have no bearing. That is what he cost us, which has nothing to do with his worth or what others may be willing to spend to get him. If Jackson is a better player (or better potential, or whatever) than Naughton, then that is all that any other club would care about.

It doesn't eventually, but for 20/22 year old key position players it does IMO (unless they're complete duds).

Where would Jackson go if he was in the draft this year? How about Naughton? Guarantee you 99% of people (outside of those on Demonland who have now turned on him and are desperate for a key forward) would have Jackson going first out of the two.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
