Is there going to be a magic round jumper?

Of course... need you ask

Strange that the NRL have not arced up about use of the term "Magic Round"

i'm still trying to get the connection with "magic"

By the time the AFL releases the fixture, I fully expect its marketing team to have scrapped the term "magic" because it is already used by the NRL. Instead, I anticipate the AFL will reprise the term "Festival of Footy" as the official descriptor.

I'm guessing there will be a Thurs night game this weekend.

Which means they will probable only need 3 ovals:  Adelaide Oval (Thurs, Fri, 2 x Sat 2 x Sun) Norwood Oval (Sat, Sun) and on game at Nuriootpa which is less than a hour fro the City.

Being the position we are in ladder wise(2022), I would say we get one of the more popular time slots against a contender, meaning we are more likely to get an Adelaide Oval game.  even though Norwood Oval is a very nice oval and brand new grand stand.

If you are thinking of going for the weekend book your flights now as they are pretty cheap and airlines are real scum these days, so as we get closer they will jump! (I fly from Adel to Melb every week, any event or holidays they take advantage of the general public!)

They are too busy fighting DJ. I still want to know what is Magic about it.

Is the old Football Park still in existence?

🤮 and what is the term "magic" all about?  Trying to sell it to pre-schoolers??

The Ground itself is still in use by the Crows AFL and AFLW teams, but the stadium has been torn down for a few years now.

Festival for SA followers LDC! I am struggling to see what's good about a round that the vast majority of supporters cannot go to see. Are SA supporters going be excited to see St.Kilda play GWS?

It’d be great to be able to book now but only if you’re planning on going for the entire weekend. Many people fly there and back on GameDay or stay only one night and only if necessary. And the way the AFL have stalled on releasing the fixture (was initially gonna be released in early Oct., then changed to late Oct. then changed to early Nov. and now we’re hearing early Dec.) who knows how soon we’ll be able to book. On top of that, this round falls during school holidays so there’s a further increase right there.

Maybe the AFL will charter Magic 🪄 Carpets to transport the fans - the occult reason for the naming of the round

Are you going to attend in SA WCW?

It's called that because most footy fans' response, upon hearing about the concept, is to mutter the magic word (and I'm not referring to "abracadabra" either).

Simsalabim?

Definitely. Just waiting on the fixture so as I know which day.

Would be surprised if there are more than 4 games at AO.

Im predicting other games to be at either Noarlunga, Barossa Valley, Strathalbyn, Port Lincoln or Mount Gambier.

Think it is more than likely that we will be playing on the Sunday given Anzac Eve is the following Monday.

Make it slightly easier to book flights.

Im going up on the Friday morning and back Monday at 6am so am home for work lol.

Can't see us having an 11 day break and playing the Thursday night.

That would be one day more of a break than the 10 day break we receive between QBDAY - bye - round 15 V Bris this year.

Hope you're correct in that we're on a Saturday or Sunday. I probably won't bother going if we're Thu night as there would only be 2 games over the Thu and Fri night and it would therefore defeat the purpose of attending a footy festival.

Does that mean the season will start a week earlier?

When does the fixture get released? It used to be October. I assume this garbage has delayed it.

Given that they announced Magic round will be round 5 (Apr 13-16) I have round 1 starting on Thursday 16 March, which is basically the same start as last year.

The grand final will be 30 Sep next year as opposed to 24 Sep this year so that essentially pushes things back a week.

Fixture due out either Thursday 1 December or Thursday 8 December IMO.

Is this with or without a pre finals bye week?  I love it being on the weekend of 24 / 25 September ordinarily

That's with a pre finals bye week which would take place in the first weekend of September.

I originally thought the season would start a week earlier, but with the last Saturday in September being the 30th next year, that pushes everything back a week compared to 2022.

The Grand Final is usually on the last Saturday in September, so anywhere from the 24th to the 30th.

There's people I know getting excited and wanting to go and I'm really struggling to see the appeal. If you wouldn't normally go to see MFC play interstate, what does another 16 teams in the same city do to boost the appeal? Unless you want to watch 3 live matches in a weekend which you can do easily in Melb anyway.

It's a dumb idea and I hope it gets barred to be honest.

Unless the round proves to be an epic fail next year, then I think it's here to stay.

Money talks and clearly cities around the country would love to have the round to boost tourism.

But I see your point - there's really nothing in it from a Victorian's perspective.

They could honour a footy legend and Brownlow Medallist by calling it The Barry Round.

The beauty of it is that the name works on another level too.  Barry = Barry Crocker = Shocker.

It would also please longtime Coodabeens caller, Barry from the Barossa.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
