Home Ground Attendance % per membership

Very impressive demon effort given the number of i/state teams we play at the G and limited capacity for our Alice Home game.

Well not useless. Maybe we should make it known, that the highest % of members that go to the footy of all Victorian Clubs are Dees members.

Let's get rid of that BS stereotype, that we are all at the snow.

Speaking of stereotypes, I acknowledge it is a hard ask for Pies members to get day leave from Her Majesty's Prisons, to go to the footy.

Am probably being very negative here but the stat is an incredibly poor reflection of member turnout. Yes we have an average home attendance of 39K but this does not mean that 39K melbourne members attend our home and and away games.

I think you will find that 20-25K Melbourne supporters go to every home game and the rest is made up by the other team. Yes there will be an outlier (like flag unfurling, Brisbane on a Thursday night) but this tends to be the case. It stands true to the 70K crowd against Collingwood which we were easily outnumbered close to 2:1 and the Carlton game which was pretty much 1:1 for a 55K crowd.

The stat is nice, but does not properly reflect who is actually going to games.

The Title says it all.....Useless AFL stats.

I assume the home game attendance is the average over the season.

That of course is influenced by who you play.  A home game against Collingwood for example boosts the average considerably.  A home game against GC does the opposite.

Geelong stadium being redeveloped with only 20K that can get in, so that drops them down considerably.  North & Hawthorn play games in Tassie at a ground with 20K capacity.

Memberships?  We all know these numbers are fudged.  Saints $1 membership last year was the classic. Does anyone really believe North have 50K members when only 9K for both sides turn up for a home game against Melbourne?

As for the supporters statistics.  Every year the same survey comes out with the same fundamental error.

If you ask a regular Joe Blow in NSW which AFL side he supports, the answer will be in all probability Sydney.  Then that survey response is translated Australia wide, even if they get zero in all other states.  Result, Sydney supposedly have the highest number of supporters.

The same scenario would occur if you asked Victorians which Rugby League side they supported.  Storm would lead the tally, except no-one in Victoria, SA & WA gives a rats about RL.

How in Hades does GWS have over 30k members. I smell some creative accounting going on somewhere. Were they giving them out free with Royal Easter Show tickets/entry?

Hold on there, you mean our members actually attend games?

Not if you read these boards they don't

Are you saying there is a negative here?

Is there a stat for decibel rating by membership attendance?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
