Congrats to May, Gawn, Clarry, and Trac. It was largely a very well picked AA team (Curnow in the forward pocket was a bit NQR though).

I just wish they'd pick wingers and actual captains as captains.

Being a captain isn't a joke - you have to actually know what you're doing in the position. Kind of like every other position on the ground.

Agree, it's an honour and a privelage to have that captaincy. They don't just give them out in Wheaties packages.

Hawkins captain? He is not even the captain of his own team. Wtf?
This is a Geelong [censored] fest. Vomit.

That is such a joke.  He does not even deserve to be in the team.  His stats were boosted by cheap goals against north, west coast, and Essendon (4.0 per game).

Against decent sides he was average at best. 16 goals from 8 games against finalists (2.0 per game).  Just as well they didn’t have our draw and play 11 games against top 8 teams.

Yet rewarded with captaincy. Joke.

Bailey Fritsch, best medium fwd in the game. Play a tall on him and he’ll beat them on the ground, play a mid/small on him and he’ll beat them in the air. 8th in the goal kicking playing in a team with the hardest draw in the competition.
Fritsch is a gun and hopefully a dual premiership player come the end of September.

Player Club Goals
Charlie Curnow Carlton 64
Tom Lynch Richmond 60
Jeremy Cameron Geelong 59
Tom Hawkins Geelong 59
Peter Wright Essendon 53
Max King St Kilda 52
Aaron Naughton Western Bulldogs 51
Bayley Fritsch Melbourne 50
Lance Franklin Sydney 50

When they named Hawkins as Captain I just switched off the Telly. Give me a break. A Captain should be a leader of men. Hawkins is far from that.   Makes me sick.

Gosh.  So many posters complaining so much about something that ultimately means so little.

We're here to win back to back premierships.  The rest is just a sideshow.

Other than Hawkins being named captain, it's actually a really decent side.  I'd have swapped Hawkins for Lynch but otherwise it's hard to see who didn't deserve to be in there.  Congratulations to Gawn who is clearly the best ruckman since Dean Cox. 6 AA's puts him in rare air.  Oliver will be there soon enough, and well done to Petracca and May on their achievements.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
