Farewell Brodie Grundy

Featured Replies

The Swans are now a genuine threat for 2024. Disappointing result from an MFC point of view

It didn’t work. But we tried.
Better to have tried and failed than to have done nothing. In the end we didn’t lose anything.

Did we try? Looks like we gave up pretty quickly.

If that’s what you think then that is your right.
I think we tried to make it work and in the end it was Grundy who cracked it and gave up.

3 clubs in 3 years. Ask yourself who the common denominator is.

Folded and took about what they offered when we said no. Strange

No we didn’t we got a second round pick as well. The initial offer was pick 46 only.

I think that’s a win for us as we were never going to be holding onto the pick anyway

We certainly did. I wanted another Season

If Max gets hurt we will look mighty stupid

Pretty happy with that deal over all.

Farewell Brodes seemed like a great clubman, just didn’t workout.

He’ll do very well at Sydney, they again will be right up there in the mix to win a flag.

What debacle it has been since he arrived at the club, getting him was not the issue (replacement for Jackson) but what we did (and didn’t do more importantly) with him while the team yet again went out in straight sets was a disgrace.

We had Petracca in the ruck while Grundy sat in the stands.

Must say I agree. Not like Grundy was a raw draft pick that recruiters had assessed at an under age comp. There was thousands of hours of video showing his strengths and weaknesses not counting industry sources who could have been consulted. If as some have claimed it was overestimating Gawn as a forward it's an equal fail by the brains trust.

Fortunately we're out of it with little cost but the final 6 weeks put keystone cops to shame

Onwards and hopefully upwards... 2023 was not a great year football wise

A serious question.

Do you think there is a chance they didn't pick Grundy becuase they were worried he wouldn't be all in for fear of getting injured and scuppering a move to Bondi?

You think correctly. 👍🏽

Future Second, which we probably give for McAdam, as we just sent pick 27 and 35 to GC. It’s odd for now

Well, in the end we turned pick 27, 2022 into

Pick 47, 2023 and [second round pick] 2024.

Is it too early to start a "Death Riding the Sydney Swans" thread?

We’ll only look mighty stupid to those who won’t entertain the possibility that he checked out midyear. That’s the same folks who think Schache was selected before Grundy because Goody luvs him a bizarre selection for S&Gs, and it had zero to with Grundy’s preferences.

One of the more bizarre MFC careers I can remember but all the best to Brodie. I honestly think it all worked out OK in the end. We tried something, it didn't work, and it was acknowledged and abandoned early enough. Brodie got to get to the club of his choice without a headache and we basically recouped what we paid for him. Salary off the books too.

Getting him in the first place needs the microscope placed over it though. A lot of posters had doubts including me, it was looking like Preuss/Gawn all over again and it was. Not too sure what Goody was thinking last year. One star ruckman is more than enough to succeed, some premiership coaches did it with none.

With Buddy gone Grundy could easily be the new poster boy for Sydney. Some good promotional deals in a two team city for the Big G.

So our tough talking has resulted in us getting a future late second round pick that we'll probably pizz away in another bone headed pick swap before the end of trade week. How incredibly brilliant.

We’ve got 3rds for McAdam. 46 is strong.

Had we played him the Pies game - which we should have - we might have been seen as less desperate for him to go AND received a pick in the low teens.

This is interesting.  On its face it's not a fantastic deal for us.  But does it do the following (someone else can correct where I get it wrong):

  • Frees up approx $650k (in addition to Harmes, Hibbo, Jordon etc) - so we are preparing a war chest for the GWS salary dump or a highly paid player (maybe even next year);
  • It gives us an extra pick next year - which gives us more flexibility in terms of trading future picks this year; and
  • It gives us a pick which we might use on McAdam or Fullarton?

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
