WERRIDEE 5,638 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Who will replace Bedford? Do we give Weid his 100th chance or do we go with the young kid? Quote
BAMF 4,483 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 If we go with JVR then Weid will need to request a trade at the end of the year. Unfortunately I think we go with JVR. Weids first year at Casey looked so promising... 1 Quote

Deemania since 56 6,808 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Bite the bullet with Weed. His chances are now historical failings of consistent effort and performance. Whilst he is still young, his moving to another club in different circumstances may be a real opportunity to get his game and contributions together with some personal onfield success. He wears the jumper well, but the jumper is a wasted issue from the Club. So many times he needs to be 'backed-up' by teammates who already have a full load of their own in the process of doing something positive and rewarding for the team against increasingly tough opponents and playmaking. 1 Quote
640MD 3,568 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 I still think he might develop,,,,slowly perhaps Probably better st another club he just does Not seem aggressive enough. don’t know. But he might have more currency if he was getting a regular game. Then again he might have less if he exposes too many problems another interesting game this week. Freshen them up. And run over port Adelaide Quote
Gouga 570 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Play both. We need a new look down there. Brown not the answer anymore. Quote
demoncat 1,723 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 It is still beyond me why people are calling for Brown to be dropped. Yes he has underperformed over the past month or so - but this is largely due to the fact that he has been missing the vital blocking and support that TMac provides. This is especially the case when our strategy of bombing it down the line results in our talls getting double and triple teamed by opposition defenders. Brown played his best footy in weeks in the first half against Geelong and he is too important to our structure to drop. Regarding Weid or JVR, for me it really comes down to how Goody and co. are viewing Weid and his position at the club. If they have faith that he can still become a best 22 forward - whether it is this year or next - they play him. However, if he still hasn't shown enough to warrant selection - especially when we were so exposed for height last week - we go JVR and I think that all but spells the end for Weid's time at the club, at least as anything more than a depth VFL player. 11 Quote
old dee 24,083 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 WE know exactly what we get with the Weid mediocrity. Give JVR a run can he be worse? Hard to believe. 5 1 Quote

All that said, I really like Weid and hope for both his and our sake that he can come in and finally grab his opportunity. And to be fair to him, I think he needs to come in for the rest of the HA season to really show what he can produce, especially if we start kicking into gear and sharpening up our forward 50 entries like we did towards the end of last season. 2 Quote

BEN BROWN Ben Brown has been targeted inside 50m one-on-one 45 times this season. He has taken one mark from those battles — a junk-time grab on Marcus Adams (Lions) late in the fourth quarter. He has been out-marked eight times. The Demons don’t trust Sam Weideman or Mitch Brown and so it’s a mighty concern for Melbourne as the absence of Tom McDonald — the swingman they attempted to offload in 2020 — aches. On Thursday night the Dees took six marks inside 50m, their equal fewest this season, and the disconnection is also disarming Kozzie Pickett and Charlie Spargo while Bayley Fritsch has been accused of being goal hungry. Contrast Brown’s numbers to Geelong goliath Tom Hawkins, who gobbles 38 per cent of his one-on-ones. The next best in the AFL is Darcy Cameron (Collingwood), who marks 25 per cent of his one-on-ones. Early Tackle: Sam Landsberger’s Likes and Dislikes from round 17 I understand this @Lord Nev but to me this is a result of what I said earlier. It is as much about Brown not receiving support from another tall as it is us bombing it long inside 50 to a pack. How many times this year have you seen us genuinely hit Brown on a lead rather than dumping it on his head? Sure he still needs to improve his individual performance, but don't underestimate the impact that these other factors are having on those statistics ^ Edited July 11, 2022 by demoncat 5 Quote

It's very specifically about how poor he's been in one on ones. 1 mark from 45 one on ones, out marked 8 times from those. That has nothing to do with TMac and nothing to do with being out numbered. Brown should wear his fair share for his lack of marks on the lead too, I've watched him closely at the games I've gone to and he simply does not lead and can not find a way to get around a defender. Bombing it forward is not all the mids fault. Quote

The Giants have tried this in the past with little to no success. Not only is he not a good mark of the footy I personally think he's cooked in general. He can barely turn now since that knee injury. Tmac is sorely missed I seriously doubt we can make the GF without him let alone win. There is simply no replacement in the ranks. Quote

Another way to read this is: 45 contests - 8 out marked + 1 mark = 36 balls brought to ground. Our forward line coach would love that number. You don’t have to watch us play for more than 15 minutes to realise we want forward 50 stoppages. Brown does his job. He was terrific early against Geelong when we had the ball moving the way we wanted. Not sure you can blame him for much when the ball isn’t down there often. 4 Quote

Don't understand why so many are so hesitant to admit how bad Brown has been. So bizarre. Quote
