No that's  what  Bowey can do . Toby is not the same strength or class as Dan Riol  or Bowey. Chandler might be a chance however with greater body strength and longer kicking and in one line he would hav the pace.

    this would explain some reporting it as 4 yrs and others at 5 yrs

    He was OOC when he came as an FA so his contract with us was either 4 or 5 years.

    Doesn’t have the clean hands and disposal of Rioli. We need clean hands and skills off half back.

    Because our SCttee and Coach ignored his good form at Casey in the QUAL Final. (was named in our best and Jake had over 25 possessions and I saw everyone of those quality touches.) 

    Just because he wasn't selected doesn't make your opinion any more right in my eyes, Kent.

    Another example of very conservative selection and playing players with some injury issues.

    And that IMO had nothing to do with  your separate post on Toby bring tried as a defender. 

    Is the injured defender Joel Smith BTW ? 

    Also in your Bowes posting you name 5 players you want delisted? Really that won't happen and contains no common sense. 

    I do agree however that Bowes and pick 7 would be a good trade for us to get involved but not 5 players maybe ONE.

    I feel like his best spot is on the ball where he showed at VFL level that he can impact around the contest but let's be honest, he's not going to get an opportunity around it in the ones.  He reminds of Ben Kennedy in not enough speed, goal kicking sense to be a permanent up forward and just not quote good enough for a mid either.

    Interesting chats on Charlie.  I'm all for him playing one's week to week but we need to make better use of his skills.  I'm always happy when the ball is in his hands delivering it but needs to get a lot more of it.

    I'd be surprised if he gets the ball 10+ times on average a game and would be nowhere near a goal a game.  I think he is a victim of a game plan that doesn't suit him (continually bombing it over him looking for forward half stoppages) but he really needs to find away to get more involved.

     

    What is average number of possessions in the league for a small/medium HF or small FP?

    I didn’t want 5 players delisted, as 2 are contracted or FA, Tomo and Hunt. I would not be unhappy to move on the other 3 and as I said, one or both of the other 2 could leave for better money or opportunities.

    If that happened and Bowes came, we add a hbf with him, get pick 7 and have a large amount of salary cap room for use. We would also have a pick for Tomo if he left and a compo pick for Hunt if he left. These picks can then be bundled to get one better one. 

    I however don’t expect that to happen. Personally I would rather bring in high end young talent, than keep a 33 year old Hibbo and 32 year old Melk for one year. Even moving on Baker, Melk and Hibbo would be more than Bowes contract. We still would have Salem, Bowey, Smith, Turner, Rivers, Brayshaw, JJ and Bowes as back flankers with maybe Taj as another to come, if they all went, which is highly unlikely and Melk and Tomo aren’t half backs anyway. 

    For example Matthew Jefferson, the Vic Metro FF would likely be there at 7. Would you rather have him, or Hibbo and Melk for one year. There are plenty of other young players if not him.

    This is a great opportunity with the Jacko trade as well, to get a few high end talented players.

    We might not get this type of opportunity again in the next few years.

    if he kicked it to Charlie 3-4 of his possessions, then we’d end up with 3-4 much better possessions going int o our forward 50!

    So are you saying the Dees should relocate to Frankston for a similar advantage???

    Very much doubt the price differential between Melbourne and Geelong is 50%. Geelong has taken off and has become expensive.

    How is it that Jordon has no problem finding the ball, and yet it's his fault that Spargo can't accumulate possessions. Have you considered that Spargo is the problem?

    Jordon is a momentum killer extraordinaire.  Not only does he wait, walk back and then ignore free players he has never played on and has never hand balled to a player running past WE need offensive pressure and he doesn't provide it

    At the moment he is a poor winger half back with great skills but no attacking footy nous.

    BTW i agree with D4life Spargo is free a lot and is criminally ignored

    At least that is something we should be able to fix

    Spargo 10 goals in 24 games as a permanent forward. Of course it's everyone else's fault.

    I blame the game plan not Jordan. I observe players across the team doing the same thing, so it must be coaches instructions. I thought that was the central problem in our loss to the swans in the finals.

    Yes you may be right WD about game plan but Jordan has been doing it since he started and Spargo getting free space is also obvious in most games

      And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

    • REPORT: Hawthorn

      There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

      At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
