Who is helping Jackson ruck? The kid was out of puff every ten minutes last week. He canโ€™t ruck all game

Gotta be Daw with chop out from Weeds surely??

Yeah would take him too, either would help!

Well the gods are smiling down on Weideman. With Gawn out, heโ€™s a guaranteed in as heโ€™s the only one left on the list who can play forward and also ruck to help Jacko.

Weid will come in, and it has to be him or Majak to help Jackson, i dont think the will go with Majak, he hasnt been super durable this year.

Think we need to keep Turner or Tomlinson in against the Lions, they have a very tall fwd line

Daw hasn't played senior footy in years and can't play fwd. No chance

Jackson will be 1st ruck, and drift back to help our defence against their giants.ย  Weed will be 2nd ruck and rest fwd

Turner out for a month with facial fracture/s, alas.

Tomlinson wasn't in the team so can't be an "out".ย  He might even be an inclusion.

yeh i didn't realise the turner inj,ย  thats very disappointing.ย  he looks to be a good size that can play on talls and med sized players.

also realised my mistake on the tommo one, meant to be M. Brown

ย

we have got our injuries at the wrong time, just after the mid season draft

Yeh on Dogga's shoulders might do it!

Was Bowey really that bad last match to be dropped? From what I saw first three quarters he was doing his usual safe job. Does he really deserve the chop?

ย

His last few weeks have been pretty average. I'd prefer Rivers ATS but if Bowey keeps his spot I'd like to see Rivers as the sub I don't think we can have both of them in the team.

Apart from no Maxย  it's a pretty good team.

In theory anywayย

Maybe forward line around BBB and Fritta might be less confused.

They just need Kossi to do more than run around fastย  ,Trac to amp up and kick straight along with a good showing from Nibblerย

With Max out and May returning we should consider tinkering with the game plan to throw more numbers at the stoppages.

I would like to see us go with a smaller forward line and Hunt included up there. He gives us a bit more pace and x factor and he is a good set shot. Our forward entries should be either precise short kicks or more 'dirty' long balls, as we want to prevent intercept marks.

Shifting Brayshaw to the wing makes no sense to me, as Jordon has been playing excellent football and Brayshaw is dominating at half back.

Weideman for Gawnย

Hunt for Mitch Brown

May for Turner

I would give Sparrow and ANB another chance to return to form. They both play a tough role and I don't see good replacements in the VFL.

ย

I think we can mostly agree withย

May in for Turner

Weid in for Gawn

do we leave it at that or look to change the look of the fwd line.ย  eg, M Brown out for Bedford or Rivers and go shorter. I personally would conisder that.ย  The Browns did very little and we can't carry multiple under performing tall fwds

The big unknown is what's going on behind the scenes with Daw.ย  When he has played VFL he has been good and I would be confident enough for him to come in.ย  It is after all why we drafted him.ย  Problem is he keeps missing VFL games without much explaination from the club so it's anyones guess as to his current fitness, health etc.

If Daw is ok:-

IN - Daw, Weeds, May

OUT - Gawn (inj), M. Brown (omit), Turner (inj)

If Daw is not ok, just Weeds and May in for the two injured players.ย  As much as M. Brown seems to have struggled, I'm mindful how long other players took to get up to speed to AFL level when it's been so long out of the level, so it would be fingers crossed he can show improvement.

Bedford back as medi-sub.ย  Chandler looked very lost when he came in last week, which was a huge surprise because I hadn't seen that from him before.

I'm with you on Mitch Brown. He's been infuriating to watch these last two weeks but I'm not ready to condemn him entirely. I still think he has something to offer and could feature again at some point.

He's one of those forwards if you can just get the ball into his hands enough you can get your 1-2 goals a game out of.ย

I think you will see a change in boweys game once May is back. He has been found out a little too much with one on ones and thats due to no May, Lever on one foot and Petty banged up every 10 minutes. Once all find their feet Bowey will be fine

My revised team below. Pretty much our premiership backline. Bring in May for Turner, Weid for Gawn, Tommo for M.Brown and Rivers for Sparrow. A few movements in particular of note: Brayshaw to HF to improve forward connection and delivery. He also has the defensive awareness and presence to create stoppages in the forward line. Tommo at CHF but can also pinch hit on the wing with JJ allowing Weid to rotate with LJ in the ruck.ย

Key D Match-ups: May - McStay; Pettyย  - Daniher; Pig - Cameron. If they roll Rayner through may need to get Pig onto him which leaves Boweyย  or Salem to Cameron. McCarthy and Bailey can also prove quite damaging. I think we get Lever onto McCarthy as he is not as agile as Bailey. Some concern here with ground balls.ย

Midfield is pretty much known and no real difference from last year. Lions generally shark Gawns ruckwork so having LJ in there will potentially nullify all of their scouting and centre bounce tactics. Worryingly though, is that large percentage of our scores have come through Centre Bounces in the last 6 weeks with our turnover game dropping right off. Lions will try and choke us in the middle, which could limit us to scores from turnover.

Forward line is where this game will be won or lost. Andrews, Starcevich and Adams are all good defenders. Andrews probably takes BBB, Adams to Tommo/Weid and Starcevich on Fritta. Not an ideal matchup for us, but we can exploit them. They are probably also a bit more damaging on the ground with Rich, Ah Chee and ANderson.

This all goes out the window if its wet, which is where i think we will have a slight advantage. Also looks like Zorko is our with a hammy.ย

B: Hibberd May Lever

HB: Bowey Petty Salem

C: JJ Viney Lingers

HF: Brayshaw Tommo ANB

F: Kozzy BBB Fritta

Foll: LJ Trac Oliver

Bench: Harmes, Weid, Spargo, Rivers

OUT: Sparrow, Gawn, Turner, M. Brown

IN: Weid, Tommo, May, Rivers

Yeah Richo said ankle during the game, then Goody said he was also carrying a back injury, and he had his shin strapped heavily also... In the wars big time.

You mean that the team puppeteers have not yet examined the back of Gawny's head for mushy dents, corrugations, internal bleedings and bruising, aneurisms? They certainly should and then forward the results to the administrative 'experts' at the AFL to see if the sources of such trauma can be eliminated, reduced, acknowledged, prevented - including the mandatory eyesight testing of field umpires!

This is a good point. JJ has been terrific, but he does move the ball very slowly and kick to a pack often. Itโ€™s just the next step for him, to trust himself to make the better decision.

He obviously has some real footy smarts, young Jordan,ย  and real footy skills. I am sure his distribution of foot-passing will adjust to improved performances as his game-time experience increases.ย

Teams have been roving to Max for about 3 years and winning the clearances.

We just need someone to jump up and get in the way. Dogga could play as a mid

We already have one of those forwards, Ben Brown.

We can't play two key forwards who disappear for long periods of the game.

Ben Brown at least hit the scoreboard on the weekend. Mitch Brown, regrettably, has struggled in both his games so far.

Of course and I agree but at some point in the season he could still have value I reckon TU. He should definitely be dropped this week but some people were calling an end to his career. I just don't think we have the luxury to slice away potential options up front right now considering the injuries and Majak being reportedly poles apart from where he needs to be to make an impact at top level.ย

We wouldn't want to have to use this option but it would nice to think he could offer something once we've fixed our forward 50 entry stuff.

What were they thinking?ย I mean by โ€œtheyโ€ the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.Itโ€™s no secret that the Demonsโ€™ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack.ย Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryanโ€™s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winningย 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
