I heard a whisper that Majak is injured, upper body and likely to be out for a month. Cannot divulge source, as they are in the playing group and will. break a confidence. Surprised MFC haven't put him on the injury report.

It appears any one tall on our list is I injured

If Tommo is not named, then he needs to be sub. If we have learnt anything the past 3 weeks is that you cannot cover talls with crumbing forwards.

re Tommo - as a medi sub he would be far more versatile than a small crumbed.  Can play KPP defender, wing releasing whoever is on the non Langdon wing as a small forward.

Some have suggested him as a KPP forward - does he have any history there?  It is a big ask just because he is big to play at CHF or FF without any experience / recency there.

Gotta be Daw with chop out from Weeds surely??

Daw hasn't played senior footy in years and can't play fwd. No chance

Jackson will be 1st ruck, and drift back to help our defence against their giants.  Weed will be 2nd ruck and rest fwd

Very sad for Daw to be injured at this time - he was the backup should Max go down: he has and he is not available.

His [Bowey] last few weeks have been pretty average. I'd prefer Rivers ATS but if Bowey keeps his spot I'd like to see Rivers as the sub I don't think we can have both of them in the team.

How about Rivers and Bowey sharing the non Salem HBF and releasing Brayshaw to wing, or even midfield?

What about giving Oskar Baker a run on the wing? It is now or never for his position on the list and he has some real upside as a winger. I also want to see Bedford and May in. Maybe Weideman should get a run too. Van Rooyen has to get some consideration for a debut soon!

Apart from no Max  it's a pretty good team.

In theory anyway

Maybe forward line around BBB and Fritta might be less confused.

They just need Kossi to do more than run around fast  ,Trac to amp up and kick straight along with a good showing from Nibbler

Agree

We are still going to field a good team on paper

Any chance we organise to play the game on Paper 📃 ?

Makes no sense. Is the Lion's MCG record so bad?

iirc they haven't won a game there since 2014.  Not sure how many games played there in that time.

Nonetheless they will be desperate for a win on the GF turf.  Catch us while a wounded prey, so to speak.  Us and the tigers later this year are their only chances of an MCG win before finals.

I'm warming to the idea of playing Trac as a permanent forward against the Lions and replacing him in the guts with Gus. We have become very predictable and teams are feeding off that

Gus is in form and Trac has been struggling to impact on the ball

We desperately need some strong bodies in the F50 and that won't be coming from BB or Weid assuming he is gifted another opportunity

Gus whilst playing great footy at HBF can be covered if we have May, Petty, Lever, Salem. Pig and any of (Bowey, Rivers, Hunt)

I have been searching through injury reports and cannot find any useful info on Majak Daw apart from a number of posters asserting that he is injured. If this is the case what is the injury and how long is he unavailable?? Given that he is our backup ruckman that should provide coverage for Max / LJ I am a bit annoyed that the club have not provided some explanation for his unavailability. The info provided on DL is confusing at best and suggestions that Majak is not up to playing AFL makes me wonder where the truth lies.

KC can you provide any info to support or refute Majak’s fitness and wellbeing as we could really use his Presence over the next 4-6 weeks.

Baker has poor disposal doubt he'll be on the list next year.

Ours or rhe lions?

We have lost our last three.

But the lions have lost 2 of their last 4 and tbe the two wins were far from impressive.

They were 5 goals down early against the giants and only the giants woeful defence saved them.

And they were woeful in their win against the saints. The saints were had two players concussed by half time (or soon after) and by the last quarter were down to one player on the bench.

It's been a long time since I have seen such a low standard game between two good teams.

Hmm,  I just put some money on the Gorillas. (Considerably less than a gorilla though.)

As a general rule, I don't back the dees. Except to win grand finals. And I generally back the line not the win

If i were setting a market, I'd probably have us a touch longer, but still favourites.

The pool would be small at this point in time and the odds for a dees win will almost certainly drift a touch before game day and be close to even money.

So, by my reckoning the current odds are a touch unders, so I wouldn't take those odds.

But plenty of people have obviously, hence the price.

Fair assessment - I struggle to see us kicking a big enough score to win based on exposed form in the last 3 weeks - their forward line is pretty capable and hard to shut down - ours is almost completely dysfunctional atm - personally I'd like to see us mix things up a bit and try Trac forward and Gus on the ball - if we go into the game with the predictable BB at FF and Weid at CHF its hard to see us creating a winning score IMO

Speaking of punting, this is an excellent time of year to make some money.

Look for top 4 teams against teams just outside or inside the 8 and back the team pushing for a final 8 spot at the line.

It doesn't quite fit the profile, but I'll be loading up on the bombers at tbe 24.5 line against the saints tonight - a game I predict will be low scoring scrap.

Unfortunately my punting has not been kind to me recently and I find myself with virtually a zero balance - this coupled with a fierce determination to not make another deposit will see me refrain - but good luck 😀

HMMM yes most recently last week - I sat through the same fixture at the SCG last year and thought there's no way that can happen again - alas I was wrong - very wrong 😬

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
