Thank god for that. Keeps us 2 games clear of them and Freo play Brisbane next week.

In fairness, it was a good win.

That it was.  A good game, well umpired.  Missed a free kick at the end

You know that endless commentary that begins "we now know how to beat (insert team name here).

Against the Dees, it is short kicking through our zone, but make sure you hit yoour targets.

Cue the mind-numbing ad nauseum repetition of to beat Carlton, beat them at clearance."

Both teams played well, Collingwood's pressure won it for them. Blues almost stole it when they won the clearances again in the last 10 minutes or so.

Carlton have a similar injury list to ours. And Weitering goes down was analagous to May going down.

They put up way more than a fight than us, considering both teams lost their key defenders.

I feel so filthy  because of the joy of Collingwood smashing the Brown Baggers 🙃

If you insist on using those sort of words Winners, you'll be banned from 'Land.

I wonder what may have contributed to us not putting up a fight so to speak, when we've fought pretty consistently for 18 months...

I watched Gawn on his haunches in the first 5 minutes of the match.... I know in elite sport you can't use excuses publicly, and there are reasons why things occur.

If a 'bug' was the case (Flu? It's [censored] everywhere in Vicco) and Goodwin mentioned it in the presser, he'd just be sounding a bit like the Geelong bloke...

"Freo were outstanding, and we lost May, and Petty was crocked, and our backline was depleted, and we couldn't run because we had 1/3 of the playing side take the ground with the flu"... that'd be interesting to the narrative.

I hate the filth but it was good to see Carlton lose.

Is there anyway the League can introduce nil all draws? That'd be a rule change worth supporting.

Over 80,000 at the G. You have to hand it to the 2 clubs. They know how to bring a crowd

Especially when one of them is 10th on the ladder.

Exactly, despite being the reigning premiers if Goodwin said this he’d be ripped to shreds by the media however when Chris Scott says it no one bats an eyelid.

Having gigantic supporter bases and being on the “up” helps.

What was the story with Darcy Parrish on the news ?? Did he crack the sads!??

Would that be it? I think he was frustrated at 1/4 time.

Gee it's a good thing port had that good 1st half.

What a shocking final quarter with no side kicking a goal.

But the main thing is Essendon lose again 😁

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
