Hmmmmm......just on that, how many goals is the minimum for him to retain his spot? ....5? 😇

The answer is zero.  What the coaches value is defensive pressure and goal assists.  Last week when a journalist asked Goody about Kossie returning to form, Goody said 'He hasn't been down in the things we value. 6 possessions and 8 tackles prior week." Not to  mention the push that created the path for Petracca's goal. Toby will be fine if he sticks to what I am happy to say is now the Melbourne way.

Thanks mate. I was being a little sardonic… but what I hadn’t heard was Goodwins presser and being clear about attributes/behaviours we value being made so public - that’s fantasic

Last time we played the Hawks, we weren't sure how good we were, and if everything was going to go up in a puff of smoke at some stage.

Also we were up against Clarkson, who, with not much at his disposal, still managed to craft a gameplan specifically for us. It nearly got us too. I recall late in the 4th, in front of the Hawks' goal, a crucial, and buII****, holding the ball decision went against us. Clarkson in the coaches box pounded the desk in glee as he knew how buII**** it was, but didn't care as long as his plan brought home the bacon.

Mitchell might be just as crafty as Clarkson, but he doesn't have the experience, or the troops, to successfully carry out his plan.

Also, this time we know how good we are.

And the game before that we smashed  them in the third.

One reason for our pts vs Richmond is because they forced us to play wide to the flanks so we weren't able to position the ball where we prefer i50.

I suspect this tactic will be used often against us as it works, to some extent.  We still get lots of i50 but accuracy suffers.  The tactic works until we wear teams down and play 'our way'.

I seem to remember hearing that we preferred to attack the pockets rather than centrally to force boundary stoppages in the event of us not taking possession rather than turning over and allowing oppositions to clear.

Assists, and pressure acts, if that is what is asked of him (his role) more important than goals

The comment came from Goodwins press conf last week.

You completely undersell Petty. He is as important and arguably in far better form than both Kosi and Jackson.

He would be a perfect match up for Gunston who has a fun time destroying us.

Petty is so firmly embedded in our starting 18, and we are a far better team with him playing, which is why he was rushed back from injury and pushed Tomlinson out of the team.

I will go out on a limb and say that he will take over from May when May retires. He is that good!

Absolutely agree with everything you have said here New Jaded.  Additionally, I was super impressed with how quickly Petty stepped straigh back in and found form again after his long injury interuped pre-season.  He was on fire, pulling in great intercept/contested marks, defending well and precisely hitting up great targets with his kicking from day dot.  Really speaks to both the great job our fitness team did with him and the quality of player he has become.

The differentiation of 'premiership players' from those that missed is a little tenuous I think.  There were several very unlucky not to play on the day like Hunt, given he'd been locked in the team most of the season until injury struck on the eve of finals and similarly Jordan.  We have also had some indications that Bedford and Smith could be pretty close to the mark as well.  A significant part of our sucess stems from the quality of depth players we had on our list.  I think I recall Max making the point in his book that playrs like Mitch Brown were supper important to driving training standards and actully quite close to potentially getting a game.  Adam Tomlinson was certainly performing at the required level at the start of the season, that I think he also could have played in the GF, had he not got injured.  In these respects, I think you could almost count the whole playing list as premiership players.

That’s agreed. I was just marking up our changes from the GF22.  Our depth is good and hopefully youngsters like Bedford take the chance.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
