The evidence shows the club has absolutely monetarised the premiership short term turning a 1.5M loss into an operating profit of around 2.0M.

We'll need to wait for more substantial long term impacts and actions. To suggest this now, with unattributed commentary and innuendo, because that's what this thread origin is all about, , is disrespectful IMO.

The AFL is littered with clubs that failed to capitalise on success so a real risk to be managed.  North in the 90's, Hawks in the 70's and 80's.

And as said in this thread, The Dogs and Beveridge in particular made it an art form. First Premier to miss finals since the Tiges in 1968 I think (but not certain)

Pert and Roffey and team are smart enough to learn from others failings in this regard.

Im also presenting it as an opportunity for expansion with population growth maybe CBD  has some potential, Docklands and some high density developments in Brunswick, Northcote etc but these are in already existing supporter strongholds.

Im not opposed to Casey but we need to be serious if that's what we are going to do, it's just that it's a long way from the G.

i  hate that Collingwood have relocated to the G precinct and with Pichmond still firming its location it's a pretty crowded area

i do see FB as a greenfield site that could be a new approach to our identity. Port Melbourne, and a new facility n a new but traditional are of the city

I suppose it depends on what you define as minimal.  Going from a projected loss to $2mill + profit is not minimal to me.  The club did say that the cup had brought wealthy supporters out of the woodwork offering donations and they were directed to the Red and Blue foundation.  Not sure where that sits on the books.

I thought the way we embraced WA and turned them onto our side was done incredibly well.

Being from WA and speaking to people back there, they think there are a number of neutrals who don't like the Eagles or Dockers may jump on board the Dees as a result and the enjoyment factor of the GF over there.

In regards to signing up members, the tally shows we have approx. 9,000 more members signed up as of the first week of March than last season, which is a 25% increase.

If we were to take that 25% increase and add it to the total members for last year (not including the GF members), it would result in a total of 66,485 by the time the memberships close.

So I think we are on track to capitalising on the first year after being premiers, but if we want to build a really powerful club and supporter base there are a few things we need to do over the next 5 years:

1. If we can win another 1 or 2 flags and build that dynasty we can start to get more members on board who like being part of a successful club and push the membership numbers up to 70k-80k.

2. We need to get the home base underway ASAP to create a 'one club' culture and enable supporters to go down after a MCG match to have a few beers and chat. It would also then enable great after match functions and speakers, such as past players/current players etc.

3. Continue to build a strong AFLW brand to attract more female supporters who can then convert to also following the men's side. Thinking there should be a joint mens/womens membership for the 'one club' feeling.

I don't think we could ask much more after the first flag than over $2m of merch sold and an increase in membership at the moment. It's only been 5 months since we won the flag, so not enough time to assess how well we are capitalising.

The club has been so bad for long periods of time we lost generations of supporters, your point one is correct sustained success will grow your supporter base.

Point 2, I don't think a social/bar space will be included in the home base, as much as it sounds great it isn't a high priority for the 11-15 days a year it would get used.

Point 3 AFLW, agree it has increased female participation but has it increased female supporters of the game.  AFLW has a serious quality issue, the games are getting worse not better, the top 4 sides played each other on the week end for a combine total of 11 goals with Melbourne kicking 4 of these. 

You will see the flow on of financial benefits in this season, better draw mor prime time games, higher attendance at games, R1 should have 70-80,000 attend, a couple of years ago we get 25K at a Bulldogs V Dees match at the MCG.

Collingwood in 1991, Essendon in 1994, Adelaide in 1999 and Brisbane in 2005 come to minds as premiers that somehow missed the following finals series before the Dogs.

Richmond also in 2021.

Last I heard was Garry Lyon speaking of how unbelievable a position we are in having spoken to Pert himself. That's evidence. Not to mention the countless ties and connections he has to the club.

1. Do we actually need more members? I don’t like sharing. 

2. Are there many people in Casey who really have any interest in Aussie rules. I’m not convinced. Are Richmond really just bringing their outer suburban fans out of hiding. Especially with 3 flags.

3. I’ve maintained that the new training base requires new business opportunities. Or charities. Or charity/business. Richmond’s indigenous centre is a great example. As are Hawthorn’s plans.

4. I’ve had many wacky ideas on how to grow side businesses. Demon dinners - meal kits or ready made meals that resemble afl players diets is my best one IMO. Demon dating - online dating only for demon fans is my favourite.

Overall I’d say covid and the lack of a home base has made things tricky. As those things hopefully progress positively we might get more of an idea of the clubs plans.

That was in reference to the bulldogs.

Our return on merchandise from the flag has been very impressive, but at the same time it is not sustainable. My concern is utilising the opportunities to generate further longterm successes.

From my understanding it was discussed that they wanted a social area as part of the home base.

Not sure how that will work, but it was definitely mentioned in previous commentary.

Do you know what the club has done under Pert, turning a culture of losing into a winning one.  I have been critical on the club that we just roll over and accepted losing for to long, 2018 we all thought we are tracking great then 19 and 20 smacked us in the face.  No question the Pert review and the personal changes made produced the flag in 2021, now the even harder part sustaining this success, but at least we have strong foundations to continue to build.

That will only be addressed with onfield success. The new Season hasn’t begun yet.

As someone already mentioned you need to have something else in with it to make it work.  I've always said Reach foundation should be included in the space, you have the multi purpose usage for reach that can also be used for functions.

It’s a matter of opinion, so I’m not sure what evidence you’d like provided. The afore-mentioned soiled bed?

Garry parroting Pert’s opinion is also not evidence either way.

Ok, how about this - despite being reigning premiers, we lag behind the majority of the league in terms of sponsorship revenue. The primary product we sell is footy and our footy has delivered the ultimate prize - a flag (and hopefully more to come) - so now is the time to maximise our return on sponsorship. Sponsors want to buy into the type of success we’ve just had and our commercial team need to pull their socks up, instead of sitting back & basking in the on-field success as if they’ve contributed to them. We’re an exciting young team & no longer a hard sell. I sincerely hope the commercial team are being made to work hard on their own patch for their bonuses. Longterm sponsorship deals should have been avoided so as not to harm our ability to maximise revenue in this period.

This isn’t about focusing on Pert, or any one individual. I’m looking at the actions or inaction of the club as a whole. 

But PJ & Roos changed the culture.

I believe that in footy, you generally reap what has been sewn 5 years prior.

If you want to focus on Pert, I’m not exactly a fan, but I’ve been more critical of how he was appointed, which is actually a criticism of Bartlett.
