2021 Premiership Flag unfurling for Round 1 against Bulldogs

I was just wondering if there has been any news about who will be unfurling the 2021 AFL Premiership Flag for the Round 1 game against the Bulldogs at the MCG?

Who will be unfurling the flag for the Melbourne Football Club?

I'm assuming it will be Ron Barassi? Or perhaps Nathan Jones? Or even Neale Daniher? However, it is my view that the honour should go to Ron Barassi due to him missing out at the Premiership celebrations in December 2021 due to unfortunately catching COVID-19.

It will be wonderful to see Ron Barassi hoisting the Melbourne Demons first Premiership Flag since 1964! Our Premiership drought of 57 years finally over!

Good to see Stanley Alves back in the fold…

Stan attended the mfc coterie season launch on Friday night. He was interviewed as a past player and spoke movingly about the club and its past and how every past player just appreciates so much what the club as a whole has now achieved.  So proud he was.

Brian wilson echoed his comments also in a touching way. These guys,  like us, really care.

Kate Roffey' s address was top notch and powerful.

No way will there be a premiership hangover.

Nice to see Greg Wells there too.  Captain 1977-78.  Had a great boot on him and was ever reliable during our lean years of the seventies.

No Junior?

Disappointed.

NO Grimes or trenners. But yeah maybe there is a reason for that but I can see why they have gone with this group. I'm just rapt Ron will be part of it this time. Never been to a premiership unveiling before.

Yes but you can't have everyone Dazzle!! Some have to miss out unfortunately. Want Junior, Grimes and Trenners to take Neita, Gaz and RDB's spots?

They were still our club captains regardless what you think of them as players. They went through the darkest period in the clubs history and barely saw any light.

They deserved to be part of it just as much as these blokes. Lyon, Neitz, Viney had their turns last December on the MCG.

Jack Grimes captained more games then Todd Viney FYI.

I am not wanting this discussion to be seen at potting those names, far from it. They too are a part of our rich history. But if we're acknowledging past players who have made significant impact at this club then Trenners and Grimes deserved to be recognised as well.

Watched Trenners on Open Mike on Kayo the other night. Extremely good bloke who doesn't shy away from owning his situation. I always thought he would make a good coach but he chose a very different and less volatile path. The club would be better if he could have been involved for longer.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
