She is also an extremely committed Catholic and the deputy chair of the Catholic parish council for Boulder-Kalgoorlie in WA.  A Catholic Facebook group she is a member of was circulating all of the foetal cell line stuff and waiting for Novavax (my sister in law waited) despite the Catholic Church being ok with vaccines. I have no idea if Jack Darling waited for that reason but it is a possibility he would like to keep his religious views private.

Well there is a group of Christian nutters at wce (look at the doco on the 2020 season with their pre-game prayer groups etc) so it is a possibility

I'm surprised that neither WC nor the AFL have clearly stated that he has been actually vaccinated.

He could still get around the AFL protocols by getting an exemption for medical reasons.

I think the AFL want the issue resolved any way they can, regardless of protocols. Whatever it takes

National Cabinet has recommended that "close contact" rules be relaxed. When and to what extent will be left to each State.

This will be fun if they adopt different definitions

X can play this week in Melbourne and Sydney but not in Adelaide or Perth.

The way West Coast is going, they may be dipping into the top up players earlier than anyone anticipated. They're having a wretched run with injuries.

Kelly is also out for round 1 because he’s tested positive for Covid.
West Coast are cooked. Couldn’t happen to a club I hate more, unless it happened to Geelong.

Gold Coast are still $2.10 to win

I've still tentatively tipped the Eagles only because I simply can't bring myself to tip against them at home against the Suns even given their preseason woes and now this. The writing is on the wall for the Eagles I just don't have the [censored] to tip against them yet. Hopefully they languish on the bottom for a while. It will be nice to travel to Perth for an easy win at our fortress.

The old Aaron Rodgers "I'm immunized" approach, I like it.

McGowan delayed the inevitable, but was always going to miraculously open up ‘just in time’ for the Eagles and Dockers. The irony is that he’s stuffed their list up - as all the other states had players away in January, and the Eagles are now just beginning to deal with it.

WA is the gift that keeps on giving.

Such short sighted BS from McGowan. WA will now go through the wave and delay families being reunited etc.

for what?

I'm predicting carnage in the next few rounds for the AFL as the Son of Omicron variant rips through the population in the coming weeks.

Yep. I just hope most of our guys have already had Covid, thereby reducing their risk of reinfection.

Winter is going to be bad again unfortunately.

Collingwood have one (Hoskin Elliot) and Hawks have two (un named) players missing due to covid

3AW news

Have to remember that the close contact rules for households still apply.

If these rules go the numbers absent each week will drop dramatically

If our players had it over Christmas/New Years then any immunity is probably gone now.

From what I understand triple jab + having had Covid provides decent long term immunity.

I might be wrong tho. The variants move and mutate so quickly these days.

I am still waiting to get Covid. Fairly shocked it hasn't happened yet.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
