Great stuff. Now make sure you rock up to the G this weekend.  It is just so important that we vastly outnumber the opposition

For what it’s worth, the weather app that I use shows at the moment that there will be no rain when we play on Saturday evening 🤞(yes I know BOM says it will be wet - just like it did for last Friday evening). GO DEES!

dC we are back.!!

Amazing.  Let's get to 70000 next year!

With this number, we are reaching up to be classed as a “power club”. At this rate of improvement and continued success on the field we could get to 100k within three years. That is huge. I can remember when the figure was less than half our current number. Here are the latest numbers:

Club 2022 Membership Tally  Record
Adelaide 40,000 64,437 (2019)
Brisbane 40,973 40,973
Carlton 84,769 84,769
Collingwood 86,641 86,641
Essendon 78,579 84,237 (2019)
Fremantle 53,549 55,639 (2018)
Geelong 66,048 70,293 (2021)
Gold Coast 8,721 19,460 (2021)
GWS 30,861 30,861
Hawthorn 70,007 81,211 (2019)
Melbourne 62,813 62,813
North Melbourne 48,639 48,639
Port Adelaide 59,146 59,146
Richmond 99,213 105,084 (2021)
St Kilda 57,930 57,930
Sydney 51,642 61,912 (2019)
West Coast 100,000 106,422 (2021)
Western Bulldogs 49,593 49,593

I measure our rating and potential through my “grandkids test”. I have four grand kids under 7. Up until last year they used to be ridiculed when they wore their Dees jumper in the play ground. That all changed around September last year. Now they tell me the majority of footy jumpers in the playground are red and blue.

An encouraging sign…

Where to go from here now? Regardless of the outcome of this year's finals, surely we expect 70k+ members in 2023.

Might be a few less members next year after our disappointing final series.

It may be a slow start but I hope and expect that if the team shows the high level intensity from 2021 and we have a good start of the season, supporters will come and join!

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
