Is there any point updating our membership tally going forward when they're all going to be of the Mickey Mouse 3 game buy one get one free variety? Surely the only metric that matters is how much actual $$$ we rake in at seasons end.

Nothing wrong with 3 game memberships.... Im sure all clubs would offer these and they are a great option for people that want to support the club but can't get to games. I used to buy this one before the MCC/MFC option was available. At least we don't do pet memberships!!

And since when are we doing buy one get one fee memberships? I havent seen these advertised anywhere but from St Kilda.

Great result! Numbers have been ticking along nicely the past few weeks. Let's keep it up!!!

Hi AJ. I'm not sure that every other club doing it is a valid reason. I don't see much point in announcing we have 60,000 members for example if 10,000 of them were given away free although it probably explains why GWS are supposed to have 30,000 members when their ground is always empty on tv.

An extra 10k.names on the list is very valuable to sponsors

Im pretty sure this bit is true: A few years ago only memberships that were worth $50+ counted.

This bit may not be: During that season St Kilda’s progressive membership count actually went down at one stage as they had to discard their freebies from their tally.

AFL has removed that requirement.

Hi Tincan. The buy one get one free memberships were mentioned further up on this thread. I agree that there is nothing wrong with having an option to buy three game memberships for the very reason you mention.

My point related to the relevance of the actual membership tally if we're flogging free memberships just to make the numbers look good. We could end up with 70,000 members, perhaps 40k that are full home & away, 20k that are three game memberships and another 10k free memberships, for argument sake. If we had to go to the bank for a loan (thankfully we don't) and they wanted to see what collateral we had they will ask how much money we made from our season ticket sales, not how many members we have.

That was a it of a joke.... but I think helping people 'dip their toes in' on memberships will lead to more and more people buying the full memberships.

We all know the GWS and Gold Coast member numbers are BS and fabricated by the AFL.

All about smoke and mirrors.  Make something look like it has a bigger audience than it actually has to attracted sponsorship, TV $$$$$.

I'm based in the West, my kids school if assigned to North Melbourne but the Bulldogs also get in there.  A couple of years ago both clubs visited the school offering free tickets to the students, to access these free tickets you had to go online to register.  We did this away game for the Dees V both clubs, as soon as I registered for the tickets receive Welcome to Bulldogs and Roos membership for all 4 of us.  Free tickets that turned into a one game free membership.

The MCG you basically have about 50,000 capacity outside MCC and AFL members, Marvel is less, seems like a lot of clubs with the arm chair members

I mentioned this on the Tickets thread but we have now sold out all Premium memberships except for Coterie and Presidents Club which guarantee GFG.💕

whilst good, it's also a bit of a worry

anyone now wanting a membership with a reserved seat is basically stuffed

club needs to find some more reserved seats without a mandatory gfg for those potential new members

it will also be a problem next year if they insist all reserved seats come with a mandatory gfg as we are at our max of gfgs

will be hard to grow memberships if this restriction continues next year

They'll just make the GFG's only applicable to higher grade memberships - other clubs do it, not all reserved seats get a GFG

Huge news that we have already passed our last year's July 31 record of 53,188.

Now a few days on from the 54,164 we will have passed last year's final record of 54,495 a full 5 months earlier!!

I would expect to see a big announcement about the new record from the club any day now.  A huge effort by dees fans.

And, a very proud time for our beloved club.

Very happy to say this post will not age well:

I suspect quite a few who would usually wait till after the start of the season to renew already have so we may not get the 13,000 going forward.

Every time I see your avatar it makes me smile 🙃🙂

She wears a priceless yet typical feline expression:  somewhere between disinterest and disdain.  An appropriate response to being made to pose for a photo!

rpjfc is also a paid up member. And got a really solid plastic plate and cutlery out of it.

That’s rubbish, you can’t guarantee everyone a gf ticket.  The clubs only get a 13,000 allocation on GF day.

Do we offer pet memberships? I havent seen them offered on our website.

When I renewed my membership, I vaguely remember being asked if I would be interested in reserved seating in the Ponsford, I think on L2 if it was available.

Haven't heard from the club, but perhaps that's an option they are looking at if there's demand.

What daisy is saying is because the club links a GFG to a reserved seat, the reserved seat sales are limited to the number of GFG available.

If that link did not exist we could sell a lot more reserved seat add-ons to GA members; a with a nice little boost to revenue.

There may be a lot of people who want a reserved seat but not an (expensive) GFG but we no longer offer such a membership which many clubs do.

well this year you could not get a reserved seat without a gfg

i tried and spoke to the ticketing dept and this is what they told me

check out the club's membership pages and find me any  reserved seat option without a gfg

You are correct Daisy, as General Admission of ‘red and blue’ membership does not equal reserved seat.

Yep that's my membership and has been for years. I will take increased membership cost and reduction in benefits for a power club winning lots of games and flags. We had the reverse for half a century.

My expectations are being realised with our success last year. It's all good for the club but not so for me. 3 game membership is looking very likely for me in 2023. I won't go to a game where I have to sit in level 3. Another draw back of success is all the night games we now get, again great for the club but a pain for me. Go Dees.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
