As others above said.

i think Laurie has shown enough to warrant a few more years in the system.

Reasonably high draft pick with some class, nice distributor of the ball, shows poise and good decision making, also kicks goals.

To me he looks like a much classier version of ANB or Spago.....We need connectors and i am sure we will look better in following years with guys like Bowey and Laurie actually showing some care in delivery.

Poise and class is something we severely lack....Last week it felt like we had one bloke that did not panic with ball in hand....Salem.

The AFL website is reporting that Joel Smith is closing in on a 2 year deal.  I think that will be the longest term he has had thus far so good on him.

A month or so ago it was reported that Bedford had been offered a new contract but no news since.  Not sure if that means we are waiting to announce it or he is considering offers.

After his recent performance I wouldn't be surprised to see Melksham get a new contract.  I read somewhere that he would like to stay.

Thanks LH, No one wants to leave apart from LJ possibly, must get space for a couple of talls desperately need a forward and ruck to complement this great list off ours.!!

ps(Melksham and Hibberd deserve another year).

Not sure Hibberd will get one.  We have a few defenders who need to see some hope of breaking into the team in their own right rather than wait for an injury.  It may depend on what happens with Hunt and Tomlinson.

Who takes Hibbo's spot next year if he retires?

Depends on match ups:  Turner, Tomlinson for talls.  Hunt, Bowey, Rivers for small/mid players.

Updated for the much deserved contracting of Joel Smith for two more years.

Not many left un-contracted now.

Anxiously awaiting news on Hunt 🤔😟😐

Oh I hadn’t noted that Hunt was OOC. That is a concern. He must feel like a borderline top 22 player and may seek a more permanent gig elsewhere. Would very much like for him to stay but then I never really want anyone to leave

With ND35, 41, 53, 63 and 70 available I can see us only using the first three until we know LJ gets us.

I think Baker and Rosman will be delisted and I also think that Tomlinson will be trade with a year left.

I think we will shovel whatever we get for LJ somewhere to get an established tall forward.

Re-sign Bedford IF we think he will take someone’s role. Then 1 year deals for Melksham, Hibberd, and Hunt.

Looking ahead to end of next season - there are few to end their journey so bringing in kids this year for Melksham and Hibberd will hem us in as kids get guaranteed 2 year deals.

No dramas if we don’t get that key forward, just upgrade the picks, move money forward to next year, and try again next summer. Brown and TMac will be fine for 2023 IMO pushed by JVR (Weideman back up ruck competing with Smith or a cheap back up ruck from wherever).

Retire: M Brown, Daw

Delist: Baker, Rosman (train on)

Trade: Jackson, Bedford

That’s 6 list spots. Plus Hunt is every chance to find a home elsewhere if he isn’t signed yet.

Wait and see: Hibbo, Melk

Seek to move on Weid and Tomlinson but good luck finding homes for them.

We must sign Bedford the rest of the uncontracted players can and should leave, maybe Hibberd can stay on if he is happy to start the year in the two's.

Back 7

Lever, May, Bowey, Brayshaw, Petty, Salem, J.Smith

I would expect all those out of contract to be gone unless Hibbo decides to go around again. This assumes Jackson and Bedford choose to go. If Bedford goes we must retain Chandler in contract. Unless someone offers overs we must retain Tomlinson for defensive cover, if we choose to shift Petty forward or if May’s role changes if Hibbo retires. We need to develop some more kids and we can’t pay more for borderline 22 players like Hunt, Melksham.

I thought Chandler signed a 2 year deal with one year on the senior list.

If I heard correctly, last night John Ralph said we have offered Hunt a contract.❤️

Thanks LH I feel that Hunty has earnt a new contract, not his fault that we wet the bed.!!

Don't disagree but are you thinking of replacing them with similar level players or simply getting their salary off the book so we can prepay a few of the higher paid players.

For example we could take Ellison on a minimum contract and trade Tomlinson thus perhaps freeing up around $200k a year.

Weid would be harder

Here’s a new reason for requesting a trade, Dunkley to Brisbane “. Dunkley's sister plays netball in Queensland and his family regularly holidays in the state”

😳

Would appear that exit interviews for fringe players post Casey GF will be tomorrow given no list change announcements today?

assume today was mad monday for most, probably exit interviews tomorrow/wednesday

Here’s my prediction for our initial off season moves.

Delist: Baker, Melksham, Rosman (re rookie?)

Retire: Daw (Rookie) M Brown (Rookie)

Rookie Elevation 2023: Chandler

Leaving: Jackson

Possibly Trade: Bedford, Tomlinson, Hunt, Weideman

With Chandler probably being elevated from the rookie list there are three free primary list spots with Melksham delisted (maybe not) and Jackson leaving.  It’s likely we need one or two more to leave, depending on what we get for the Jackson trade and the possible movements of Bedford, Tommo, Hunt and Weid. We can also go into next year with less rookies and take one or two more onto the main list with Brown and Daw likely to leave.
Hibbo showed enough to choose to go around again although I would really like Bowey playing seniors regularly next year.

IMO our needs are, one senior ruck (apparently Grundy) and at least one developing ruck (more if Weid leaves), a KPF, quick skilful players with x-factor.
I would prefer to keep the backline trio of May, Lever, Petty together so would look at trading out Tomlinson to help get a KPF. If that doesn’t happen then JVR must play next year with Petty forward and one of Smith, Turner or Tomlinson stepping up into Petty’s spot. Turner looks likely.
As crazy as it is to say given our paper thin rucks stocks and misfiring KPF if I could have one player in the league join us it would be Shai Bolton, we simply don’t have enough out and out game breakers to complement the hard workers of our midfield.

Updated for Rosman's delisting and M.Brown's retirement.

Shame for Rosman.  Delighted Mitch went out on a Premiership high.

Edit:  Tomlinson is contracted to 2024.  I will fix info in next version

Edited by Lucifers Hero

Agree LH Rosman good size, long kick can take a mark, just injury prone and couldn’t get a good run at it.!!

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
