I have way more concerns about replacing Ben Brown and Tmac than worrying about May's eventual replacement.

All of Tmac, Brown and Weid have a history of injuries which could effect the next couple of seasons.

If we go for JVR, I hope he is developed as a fwd.

Yep, we have Thommo as well who showed he plays very well as a key back. With may, lever, petty, Thommo and Turner, we are stocked for current and project backs.

Need a backup for TMac and BB

Best available tall. Makes sense and Taylor is true to his word picking for needs.

Great get for this club.

Big physical 195cm 88kg key forward who has also played down back. Had some insane numbers in the back end of the year in the colts level as a noted goal kicker.

Welcome Jacob.

34 goals in 9 games, apparently. But not many at WAFL level.

Ecstatic with this selection. It's what I hoped would happen. Kid has all the potential in the world. Welcome to the mighty Dees Jacob! 😈

Dunno why but I have a feeling we weren't expecting him to be available @ 19

Welcome Jacob.

I've just had a look at his highlights reel and am now an absolute expert on him. I thought he moved a bit like Tom Lynch with his forward play.

Interested to see how JVR performed at the combine.  He had a great year and definitely in the mix for our “pick 17”.

Welcome aboard JVR.  We can give him the time to develop without rushing him in.

Looks a great prospect. Hopefully another JT special (although i wish fox hadn't compare him to Josh Bruce)

Feels strange to draft a tall in the first round who seems low ceiling but high floor.

Obviously nothing is guaranteed but with a few years development he could then pitch in for 150 or so games at either end and help maximise our premiership window through the early stage of that.

Ticks a lot of the boxes and should settle in well.

I can imagine him in a year or two, under our coaching team with good physical conditioning, fitter, tougher, muscled, confident, even more capable from more intense match-play with Casey - a big win for Dees' fans. JT, you've done it again! Team balance in the near future is the priority.

Will be a good surfing partner for Luke Jackson!

Good pick up. We needed a tall for depth and he is quality at either end. Higher probability pick being from WA where much more footy has been played than the Eastern States. So we had a good look.

Wonder whether we try to trade up tomorow? Some quality apparently still on the board.

I genuinely dislike Josh Bruce but he had a great year this year. I actually like that fox picked a semi reasonable comparison for once! If he gives us 2021 Josh Bruce we’d be delighted

I don't study draft prospects outside Demonland, but I've been keen on JVR ever since the possibility of his selection was mooted here.  Seems like a great fit for our list as it currently stands.  Welcome JVR, you've just joined the very best AFL club in the land!

Totally agree. It’s Best Available at pick 17. No matter who that is (JVR, Chesser, Sinn, Sonsie, Wilmot or whoever) then we trust in JT.  JT is a legend and is one of the key men behind our premiership.  I’d like to see another youngster with skill and pace added to the midfielder but just that’s me. JVR would also be a handy young key position player to develop with time on our side.

Back in JT.  He knows we will need to develop another young tall, probably in the current Tmac role.  Hope we get to hear from the great man on the selection.

Welcome Jacob.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road again and this may be the last roll of the dice to get their 2025 season back on track as they take on the Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
