Can't wait, I'm sure it will be a fantastic day for all! If they can also replicate the GF day weather from Perth, that would be great.

man that's early, I was expecting a 3-6 type thing.

only 40K attending.  pity folks will have to miss out

Hmm I think the 40K is a number the club has considered to cover most Vic members.

We have quite a few members interstate and some Victorians wont go because it is the busy period before Christmas.

I will be surprised if any Victorian members who want to go miss out.

This is what sh1ts me. Boxing Day test can be full capacity, yet only 40k are allowed to turn up to the G 21 days prior?

Andrews’ and his health bureaucratic lackeys can all take a long walk off a very short pier.

I assume the club is waiting for the magic 90% double dose mark when crowd limits disappear in Victoria to make further announcements.

We are currently tracking to hit that around 21/11.

Or Somyurek to completely snooker them and a need to change the news cycle.

Either way I don't care.

Let's all get there and celebrate.

Dont think afl members will be open and maybe mcc , depends where stage is . They will want ppl to face stage . Dont think there will be  general  seating on field , maybe for team families and past players sponsors . It will be seating in stand so they can trace if they have to . Im just happy we can be there.

The way I read it is the club is hoping to get 40,000 there, not a limit of 40k. They stated they want as many supporters as possible to attend.

Correct. There is no mention anywhere of a cap. People read want they wanna read so they can get all angered and justifies certain angles.

Agreed - I think.

My reading of the DHHS instructions effective from 11.59 yesterday below is that crowd limits ceased last night at any event. Over 30,000 for outdoors ( that's us) just need a CovidSafe plan(also us). Double-vaxed only presumably.

".....All indoor and outdoor events with fewer than 30,000 fully vaccinated attendees can go ahead without restrictions, while outdoor events with more than 30,000 people attending have to publish a COVIDSafe plan...."

oh right, thats good!  With good weather I reckon we'd get more than 40K but who knows.

Nowhere in the article does it state it's capped at 40,000.  What the actually quote is "hopefully 40,000+ members and supporters".  It sounds more like they're predicting how may may be attending.  Given the club has 55,000 members, which includes interstate and overseas members, that's probably a fair prediction.  As of today there is no restriction on outdoor gatherings, and in fact there's nothing stopping the MCG filling the ground to 100,000 if they want to.  I'm predicting they'll be increasing from 80,000 to 100,000 capacity for Boxing Day soon.

While I am still going I must admit that as the time increases since GF day My enthusiasm is waning. I suspect there while be a number of members who will not turn up due to the weather, family activities before Christmas etc.

I wonder if the catering will be open 30k plus is a lot of hungry people at that time of the day after watching a full replay of the game.

If the bars and food outlets aren’t open I won’t be going that’s for sure

Genuine question how do you know that is where you will be sitting?

That's where i always sit when i go the G

(but to be clear i have no idea, was joking. I suspect they will only have the Olympic stand and perhaps part of the southern stand open - and of course the members area)

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
