I certainly want him next year. Who else would you play on Toby greene, or dusty, or jake stringer? To my mind, he is our best option for each of those, at least until Tomlinson is back

Yep, he’s a specialist lock down player. May be superfluous to play on an average player but is high value against big guns.

I’d like to see Hibbo go around for one more year.  His lockdown role was a part of our excellent back 6.

But understand he’s had a lot to deal with in life and might decide the premiership year is his last AFL season.

Confirmed signing for next season.

Nice to see all of our Premiership players having the opportunity to run out for the flag unfurling next year.

May not be a regular, but will push Hunt to get back to his best.

Well done Hibbo and M.F.C

He’s probably just enjoying a few weeks off before he puts pen to paper on a one year contract.

What don’t Ethan know? #TheContractWhisperer

How good is this to read "ensures all 23 members of Melbourne’s 2021 Premiership side are locked in for the 2022 AFL season"?

What is Melksham's status?  There were rumours he was looking elsewhere during the trade period, but obviously nothing happened there.  Is he still contracted for next year?

Melksham was already under contract for next year.

Gives us the possibility to be the only team to play the same 22 that won the flag in the following season.

Wow.

Though I’m sure guys like Joel Smith, Hunt, Melksham, Tomlinson (and Jordon) will be desperate to get back in the team and take their chance to experience a premiership. Having competition for spots makes us even stronger.

I don't see why Hibbo wouldn't want to continue on next year, he's waited all his footballing life for success and now its stairing him right in the face.

I can't wait to see him step up, take flight, rise to the occasion and tread a path to more Premiership glory.

They said this on the news this evening. The same 22 in a premiership side all playing in Round 1 the following season had never happened in VFL/AFL history. How good is it to see your team breaking records, but in a good way. 😁

Thanks Michael Hibberd you have played a critical role in the rise of our premiership team I am really glad that you resigned keeps our history making team together for 2022.💕❤️💙

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
