Don't see this helping us. WC are going to want to keep a pick in the top 10 this year. Which only leaves their F1 and ports F1 on offer for us?

West Coast could trade 8 for Freo’s 13 and North’s pick if they’re really down on this draft. Wouldn’t be crazy. Slide back twice and own next years top 25

Doubt they’re in on Jackson, but it might help us if they dangle 8 and Port’s first and make Freo work harder

Not really keen on Cadman personally. I wonder whether we'd be interested in Rueben Ginbey (another WA kid, I know).

We are interested in him,  Tim Lamb watched him live and he has been spoken to by us.

He has been on our radar since last season

Can't see how they get Bruhn then. Pick 18 won't cut it, and you wouldn't accept their future first given it could be the same pick.

Henry has more currency than Bruhn IMO. Bruhn hasn’t done much to really validate his talent at first round level. But 18 and change for one, future 1st and change for the other should get the deals done.

Love these titbits mate.

Really want this kid but can't see it happening unless we can really work our way up into the top 5.

I don't think Dogga has found his best role (as opposed to position) within the Melbourne side. Is he best competing in the ruck contest, or roving around as a tall, competitive  mid or kicking goals deep? We all see his potential and upside, but we don't know how far that will extend. With maturity and experience he will find that role and hopefully become the star that people talk of.

That is what we are trading upon, not that he is comparable atm to Grundy, Carey,  Dusty or Gawn

I see him as potentially becoming a Joe Daniher-type, but a version of Joe Daniher that is actually a good footballer.

I think the consensus has always been that, if they are bring Jackson in, the AFL would sign off on it.

As a side note - with no intent to derail this wonderfully entertaining thread -  i wonder how many times this sentence has been repeated on DL. Which begs the bigger and more important question, what is the most repeated one liner ever on DL.

Rueban won’t go Top 10 IMO, Busslinger will be the first WA boy picked

Out: 2, Rioli

In: 8, 10-15

Values rioli at nothing essentially.

Makes sense. Seems to fit the competitive animal mould, has positional flexibility so can start out as a defender at AFL level.

He's been there plenty times before from what I've heard.

Ah my bad, I was referring to Cadman rather than Ginbey. I do recall you mentioning earlier in the year about us talking to Ginbey prior to the champs. Our talent spotters really are on the ball.

Lots

I still can’t see how Freo can give us an acceptable deal for LJ. This will drag right out into next week

It is amusing that given how much this trade was talked about in the lead up to trade week, it feels all but forgotten in trade week.

How on God's earth is JHF worth pick 2!!!

Then what is LJ worth...

Thats what I don't get. LJ was a highly speculative pick at 3 yet he has excelled with an excellent CV. Almost universally predicted to be a 10 year superstar.

JHF? Really? A muppet that needs to grow up

Yes indeed. Freo have no decent currency

Do they expect the deal to just happen?

Would LJ play another 1-2 years with us if Freo cannot come up with a suitable Trade??

Jackson has a lot of growing up to do too. He’s a big talent but a lot of its potential as well. He’s has a cruisy start playing back up to Max. Has a heap of work to become the ruck/midfielder he can be.

JHF is a top flight midfielder/forward, the most valuable role in the game. Had a stinker of year in a disaster or a club but he’s still got next Danger, next Tracc type player written all over him. Port are getting a steal if it’s 8 and a moderate future first.

GWS are loaded with picks and won’t use all of them. They will take 18. I think from memory they have 3, 12, 15, 19 already in first round. 18 would give them 5 and then  Hopper picks to come.

A trade will be done, whether its suitable or not. He's already moved back to WA. We're not going to let him walk, so we'll just be going with whoever offers us the best out of freo or WC. At least he has the decency to let us get the better of two options.

Yes I know all that. But we have already said that we expect Top 10 Picks in return. Freo are nowhere near that.

WC could be though. And plenty of times clubs don't get their desired return, especially when the player is out of contract. The clubs will reach a compromise.

Jeremy Cameron went for 13, 15, 20 with two second round picks (32, 35) coming back. He was a proven player and a 9x leading goal kicker for the giants. I think LJ trade could be similar to that, except I think 15 turns into a top 10 pick next year instead.

Having lots of picks doesn't mean you accept unders in a deal though. Bruhn was pick 12, pick 18 isn't equitable.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
