Agree. We also want to be a place where players want to play and want to come to, not one that holds players over a barrel. Players move clubs, it's reality.

No vibes. Saw a rumour on big footy, which likely has zero substance, but how good would he look in our forward line. I'd happily give up a first and early second rounder for him.

So if we're going for at least one top 10 pick, do people think this will be for a trade of our own or we have our eye on someone in the draft?

Be a big surprise if we’re suddenly uncovering a top trade target. Taranto was a die hard demon as kid (which usually means nothing), if we had the cap space he makes the most sense of any of of the top players out there if we’re stealing someone else’s target.

The most likely situation to me has always been that Jacko was our highest draft pick in years, we should replace him with another high pick (plus another nice piece as we are almost no chance of getting a pick 3 back).

Whilst best available is always the way to go I think we’ll be keen on either a tall forward or a midfielder with some forward craft or attacking qualities too.

If the future first goes for Grundy and Henry's thrown in (or part of another trade), that leaves pick 8 for the Astronaut. We allow the Bulldogs to take Tomlinson and maybe a later pick exchange upgrade for them too. Like it. 😉

Where's that new thread, @Engorged Onion?

Lever trade is probably the benchmark.

10 + F1st for Lever + 35 with steak knives in Adelaide's favour.

DL thought we were ripped off.

I put it up - titled it ‘Is Aaron Naughton posting on Melbourne Demon players socials yet?’ And it was taken down posthaste!

I was marginally upset. 😂

Jacko settling in well with his new teammates..

I'm sure the post where he thanks supporters, the club for drafting him, developing him and giving him the chance to play in a premiership will come at some stage

He can’t do it yet as nothing is certain…

How would you receive it if he did it before the trade was locked in?

In the words of the great Kevin Sorbo, "disappointed".

So far we’ve had 1 season where it was a steal and 4 seasons where we have been ripped off!

I’d put Jackson in the same boat as Lever where there’s no doubt he can be an incredible player with some special traits. But there’s also some valid questions too and there’s safer ways to spend some very good picks.

No reason given Dazzle... it was there and then around 10 minutes later it was gone.

Are you just anti everything, or maybe just the [censored] out of everyone on here?

You do remember we won the flag last year and finished second after the H&A games this year?

We are a seriously good side and I think after a bit of down time we will come back better than ever, some of the players came back to training too early this year and needed a break, maybe that's why we have had so many injuries and looked flat.

Both the Swans and Pies play a frenetic game and it's hard to keep this up, I think they will fall back a bit next year, Geelong will be a year older and maybe not quite as hungry as they were this year.

Maybe you should focus on the positives we have and stop trying to find reasons why we can't win.

Did you miss the part where I said he was a steal for 1 season?

I never said I wouldn’t have done the Lever deal, he was a key player in a flag, of course I’d do it. But it’s just a fact that he’s had 3 injury impacted seasons as well as 2020 where he was far closer to just good than great.

My post was comparing Jackson and Lever as somewhat volatile players and as super highly rated talls traded after 3 years - an unusual time for talls who have established themselves to move clubs. Lever’s the best interceptor in the game at his best, but fairly mediocre if he’s off his game. Jackson’s a game changer if he’s on and a bit underwhelming otherwise.

And introducing him to the pineapple.

I'm sure he's looking for a ghostwriter as we speak. Bless.

How do you define ripped off?

So as far as you're concerned we were ripped off because he's been injured?

In hindsight would you have done the deal if you knew he was going to get injured? We did win a premiership with he being an integral part of the team.

I'm not sure what you are saying, is it the fact we have only won one Flag whilst he's been there because we were ripped off?

There’s an article up on the AFL website with comments from Luke’s manager about Freo.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/852015/manager-confident-dockers-will-move-on-lobb-logue-to-get-demon

This stood out to me:

"I will be trying to work with Fremantle… They've been aware that he was going to ask for the trade from basically one week after the trade period last year."

Pretty sure it's Lobb's manager referring to Fremantle knowing he would be requesting a trade again this year.

Whilst that isn’t really fair, frankly, yes.

Most of the worst trades involve paying big prices for players who can’t get on the park or play to the best of their abilities due to injuries.

There’s plenty of time for Lever to deliver a lot more good footy for us but apart from 2021 he hasn’t delivered. I’m not expecting to win the flag each year and Lever’s just about paid for himself getting us 1 flag, but dogs fans said that about Tom Boyd who played about 1 good game in his entire contract. It’s fairly true but also underwhelming.

We paid a similar price for May as we did Lever, and after an awful first year he’s been All Aus level in 3 of 4 years.

I’m sure Lever and the club both expect him to string some good years together to continue to get value from the deal. That’s not unreasonable.

That's from Lobb's manager, about Lobb.

It is funny though. Colin Young made sure to bring up LJ at every opportunity. Any freo player leaving was Luke's fault pretty much. Media out west will be ripping into him if he doesn't live up to expectations.

Hope you enjoy that Luke.

Anyone remember Cerra being impressed with our presentation but we were never really in the frame because we didn't have the trade currency. Ugh.

If Cerra were available this year, would we really want him for Jackson though?  Not sure he is really what we need in any case.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
