I think it’s Crows v Roos this week. Is it the Saints we’re barracking for against the Lions?

If trophy is decided on percentage (rather than split amongst teams tied), a win for us & Lions loss virtually wraps it up. I suspect it’ll come down to that last game though.

Yeah, I was a little flat when I had a look ahead yesterday.

Still, never know, just look at Bombers Eagles.

Is there an updated ladder for this? It's not even on the AFL website from what I can see. There's a chance that the % difference between us and Brisbane may well be too great even if they beat us in Round 10.

The women's games are worth 8 points, so, presuming Dees and Lions win this week, the current 4-point difference means % will be irrelevant in that million dollar game.

There's still a very outside chance Pies could 'Bradbury'. Our good % would help there.

nah aflw is 8 points. if bris beat us in rd10 they go 4 points up

filth could draw even too, but we have them on %

if filth draw even with us it means we lost rd10 therefore bris win trophy by 4 points

Got take care of business against Freo first but geeze that final round will be a big game for a lot of reasons.

Would be nice to see the blokes get behind the girls, but one sign of the poor culture at the club has been how little our men seem to care about the girls.

I wouldn't discount the Saints against the Lions this week. Lions have coughed up games against pies and tiges so saints are a chance. That said i reckon it'll come down to our game v the Lions. We beat them in the granny on their home deck last year so we have nothing to fear. huge game.

big ask of saints. they just lost to freo without much of a fight.  at least they have it on their home ground, but.

True. I wouldn’t be putting my hard earned on the saints but they’re in with a chance of finals so they’ll have a go.

Sorry.
The Dr Mclelland Trophy has been around for Decades.
long before the Women’s Comp.
it was originally based on U19 Reserves and Seniors

There should have been a Pot of Gold up for grabs a long time ago

It was around back in the day when it was based on the combined H&A results of the under 19s, the reserves and the seniors. Of course that wasn’t sustainable because you need equal number of teams for it to be fair. Fast forward to now where for the first time, we have 18 teams in both the AFL and the AFLW.

Back in the Day, each VFL Side had U19 Reserves and Seniors. Back in the Days when September had crowds of 115,000 jammed into The MCG

The Good Doctor was awarded back in those days, and there should have been a Financial Prize for the winner

How do they split cash, everyone gets a cheque for $11,000 - $13,000 (1Mil/~75 m+f players?) Coaches get any splash?

From my understanding the money goes to the W only, split amongst players and coaching staff. That’s what I heard on Thursday at a W function. I could be wrong, but geez, I hope I’m right. Average W wage this year is $60,000, up from $42,000 last season. Methinks the M are sufficiently paid already.

Of course there should always have been a $ prize. It’s quite a feat.

Any Winnings should go to The MFC So we can stop selling Home Games during a Season, giving our opponents a direct advantage

I might be wrong but I think it then went to the AFL minor premiers until it's rejuvenation in the current format.

Seems I was wrong. The million dollars goes to the MFC to be divvied up as they see fit.

We no longer sell the Alice game just for the $. That used to be the reason but it’s not so anymore. For one, the NT govt is one of our larger sponsors. And I’m not gonna go into how much it means for the community there. I’ve done so before and have regretted it, suffice to say I’m not as thick-skinned as I need to be.

It could end up being a last round million dollar play off between the MFC and Lions womens game.

A high stakes game

I thought it had to be allocated under the soft cap between both men and women?

You’re probably right. I don’t know how it’s distributed. Up until 10 minutes ago I thought it went to the W only.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
