Hi

Would anyone have the best email to reach Pert or another person of importance at the administration club other than the general info one?

Cheers

I was gonna ask you why you assumed it was a complaint. No need to ask now, turns out it is a complaint. Oh well. I personally emailed him yesterday to thank him. Each to their own.

To be fair to the bloke, he followed through on what really matters.

Also, finding it hard to feel too sorry for our WA Members, given what they have had access to over the last month.

Thank you for the replies.  Yes its an amazing time.  You can tell from my history I love the dees and not a jaded supporter.

My communication to Pert is also important for the future of the club, it's not really a complaint but it could be interpreted as such. But I will explain. We are WA supporters my kids are been members since birth like many here.  Yes we have been amazing likely this year with the finals and result (He will get congratulated)  My oldest no longer has an interest in football or the club.

My daughter 13, son 10 still love football.  But they have no real connection to the club. My son has never met a player in person, had a photo with or a signature his whole life, last time my daughter did she was 5. they could not make the open training in WA due to school. But there was little or no interaction there due to covid rules.  While they follow Dee's neither have a favourite player as they are "people" on TV and we normally see them on a field maybe once a year, there is no interaction.  (The club used to have open training and dinners for wa members which no longer happen).

So at the open day Pert said after the GF they players were excited to meet at the supporters etc, give signature, photos etc.  So we went to the city representation, (the players were behind a 8 foot fence covered in tarp, I guess the city arranged this, not the clubs doing) and left within 10 minutes after the presentation.  Despite Garry Lyon saying they'll be having around with the supporters after the presentation. My son is quiet and polite and when he could get to a 3 metre section of low fence all the players were already on the bus.  Viney was only player still  there trying to sign things, Hibberd got out of the bus and pulled him in so they could leave as he was taking too long training signing signatures, (He signed 3 things). Virtual all the players just ran down the space to the bus and got on.  While my son didn't say anything he was really sad by the experience. It was his first time and opportunity in his entire life to get a signature, he had a pen and a hat ready to be signed by a player.  But they were gone.

I have emailed Pert to explain this and ask where the opportunity of members and supporters in WA to meet and interact with the players, as they weren't allowed to before the GF.  In the extra 5 days they have had in WA, why couldn't they arrange a 1 hour meet with the WA member families to have a kick with the players say at Joondalup arena.  We don't get the opportunity for things like family days here with the team. They could restrict it to those with paid up membership, anything more than what has happened. I feel I should not have to hang outside the hotel or try random pubs for my kids to get a photo/signature from a player.   What I can see happening is when I stop paying their membership they won't join on their own and the club will lose more future members, as WA kids are not building the same links as I did as a kid, even in the terrible early 80's. Particularly when you have eagles/dockers players visiting their schools and running training at their junior clubs (once a year).

That is essentially what I sent to Pert.

(Extra note: I thought about this for 2 days after the city experience and just want my kids to have the same love for the Dees as I have)

After this season let's just let the boys enjoy themselves. If your kids won't jump on board after seeing them win the big dance in their home state, I reckon nothing will get them on.

I think those are fair and reasonable comments to be honest.

Gary Pert mentioned in his podcast interview getting ongoing membership in WA, it’s either lip service, or they genuinely need to do better to support interstate members.

I don’t know, maybe I’m too stuck in VIC lockdown pandemic mode and feel like player meet and greets are still some mythological concept from the never-never right now. If he promised it and didn’t deliver then you’d be right to feel aggrieved, whether it was out of the club’s hands or not.

With people here predominantly from VIC who have essentially been robbed of many events such as a day after celebration at Gosch’s, it could be difficult getting sympathy I’m afraid. Definitely write the email though, feedback is important.

Be careful what you say because they keep it all on file and can use it against you in the future, bit like the Stasi

Enjoy the win Karen! It was once in a lifetime stuff to be able to be lucky enough to live over in WA and to be a part of the build up and watch the big game live. Unfortunately during these times things are a little fluid and change constantly.

Whenever one needs the CEO it’s invariably not going to be positive.

I feel so sorry for Western Australians for any pain and suffering caused by Gary Pert. You guys have sure done it tough over the last few weeks, that’s for sure.

I reckon every premier in recent years would’ve been just as unapproachable as our club has apparently been.

Just to put this in perspective:

I can’t go further than my front door, am not allowed on the street after 9 or I’ll get arrested, everywhere I go I live in constant fear of getting a disease that has killed millions of people in the last 12 months, and I’ve given the club well over 100k in my lifetime on memberships and extras. In return I got to see my side win the flag on the TV like any other impartial viewer.

Shall I continue, or shall we all pull our heads in and enjoy the fact we won the GRAND FINAL AND ARE PREMIERS!!!

My first thought is this is a prank.

If I'm wrong, then Darkhorse perhaps explain to your son that tens of thousands of Melbourne supporters, who have been going to the footy week in week out to watch the Dees (some for as many as 50-odd years without seeing a premiership), many a time knowing we would not only lose but be belted, going home upset/frustrated/despondent, and doing this over and over again, all the while retaining the dream of seeing their side win a flag at the G, have been denied entry to the first ever Grand Final in Perth where their team has finally saluted. And then couldn't even celebrate it properly with a party atmosphere because they were subjected to some of the strictest lockdown rules anywhere in the entire world.

I think in that context, you guys will consider yourselves incredibly fortunate to have experienced the grand final build up, ability to go to the game and winning the premiership without any restrictions whatsoever, and not getting a signature from a player is about as trivial as forgetting to record an AFL-X game.

Can't understand negatives directed at Darkhorse.
Pert promised and didn't deliver, a bloke's as good as his word

First of all, Pert did deliver. A flag. You are welcome.

Secondly, darkhorse said ‘ I feel I should not have to hang outside the hotel or try random pubs for my kids to get a photo/signature from a player. ‘ to a bunch of supporters who weren’t able to go and see the game at all, many of whom have invested a lot over the last 50 odd years. He saw the club break a 57 year curse, with his own eyes, and he’s disappointed that he didn’t get a signature! Wow.

Its like complaining about the price of mittens to a double amputee.

Appreciate what you have.

Unfortunately some of the comments are not what I'm talking about. Yes we were unbelievable lucky it was in WA and our team made and won, true amazing.  Yes we feel for die hard supporters over east (because of one stupid airport transfer person and a couple of movers) but that is not what I'm talking about.  I wasn't there in Melbourne on 88 and 2000 build ups (crap result), I had to watch from afar like many others had to do this year. Year after year we sit in WA watching our team on tv being jealous of those that could got live games almost every weekend, we may get 1 or 2 a year.  We do treasure the few games we get to see for our membership. I am jealous about the family days people have at Luna park when I read about them etc as I can't take my kids along or other club functions. My kids have been members since they were born, I've been since I earned an income in WA. If it was at the G we would have been watching from here on tv, except for those lucky few that could get a seta to the game. Thats life for an interstate supporter as some on here experience and we accept, that out only other choice is win lotto to fly to games or move.

But being in WA we get very little access or none to meet players for junior supporters, that's a fact.  They used to have dinners which if you go back years I wrote reports on and open training sessions.  I did go through my photos and the last photo we had was 25th May 2013, my two oldest got a photo with Jack Watts and Nathan Jones.  Those saying I'm winging, when was the last time your kids got to meet a player in person.  Due to modern sports science and travel routines they are in and out very quick for games in Perth, we accept that, that's life its best for the team.

This time the players has time after the GF no matter the result.  Pert said if we win it'll be an event in the city, if they lose it'll be at Joondalup arena (Where they had the open training, where 500 turned up and I know a lot of kids did not attend due to school).  He said supporters would have access to players and officials then, as they couldn't previously due to covid rules.  That is the issue, they could have set aside 1 hour in a park anywhere  and say meet us there to the members and we'd be there.

I have no idea what you're complaining about. Why is it our problem that you have to jealously watch on TV while we go? I'm really sorry mate, really sorry I live in the city the team is based in.

I don't know why you didn't just pull your kids out of school to go to the open session if it meant that much.

Hypothetical question, which would you prefer?

- member for 20 years living Perth, basically have full freedom and bugger all lockdowns for past 18months, gets opportunity to attend first grand final win since 1964

- member for 20 years living in Melbourne, been lockdown for 250 days over past 18 months with your 3 kids in prep-grade 3 home schooling for nearly 3 full terms in that time, working full time AND misses opportunity to attend first grand final win since 1964

Good call out DH72, that doesn't sound like a great experience. As Max said show by your actions not your words.

Pert said on the Deeland podcast our biggest gap member wise is the younger age bracket. The club/players need to do everything they can to get more kids in red and blue.

I’m actually with DH on this one.

I don’t want our club becoming a big club that’s impersonal.

Obviously the club will grow with success and that’s a good thing. But it has to keep that connection.

Nothing means more to kids that personal access to the players. We won’t be getting that any time soon in Melbourne. There was an opportunity for that to happen in Perth. They had 4 days, could’ve spared an hour or so.

Collingwood lost their way turning in to a footballing mcfranchise. It would be a travesty if we won a flag just to lose our soul.

I wouldn't be complaining if I were you. My daughter loves Max Gawn, Petracca and Daisy without meeting any of them.

We just won the premiership in a global pandemic and you want to complain.

Anybody complaining is not following the Melbourne ethos of being "selfless"

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
