I still just cannot believe how dominant we were to close out the game.Β

To score 100-7 in the last 1.5 quarters is basically unheard of regardless of team and scenario, let alone in a GF.

To compare I thought of the most outrageous scoreline I can think of, which of course is the horrible 186 game vs Geelong 2011.

At half time in that game, the scoreline was 20.4.124 to 1.4.10 - we outscored the Dogs at a similar rate to one of the worst defeats in modern history, and in the Grand Final no less. And starting from 3 goals down at a crucial point in the match.

It just gets more and more incredible the more you think about it.

I’ve clocked over watching this 45 minutes at least 20 times now. Β It is most amazing footy ever produced by a MFC team in my lifetime. And in such a sensational way in the biggest game of the year. πŸ†β€οΈπŸ’™

53 seconds to go in the third quarter - Petracca kicks the amazing bending inverted banana goal from the boundary forward pocket. Β I’ve watched it 20-25 times now and it just amazes me.
Trac is a champion πŸ†β€οΈπŸ’™

Quick quiz - who said this …

β€œHe’s kicked a Dusty goal earlyΒ

He’s kicked a Daicos goal lateΒ

And if you cross Dusty and Daics, you get Petracca”

Same caller that said ..." and the Melbourne fans have gone absolutely. "....end of statement.😁

We as fans at the moment are in danger of undervaluing the quality and influence that our champs have on the game each week.

Trac and Clarry are special special talents and think and react about a half second quicker than others on the field.

We also have about 7/8 others who are probably undervalued a little bit because of this. They include Maxy JackV Maysie Rick Salo and Fritta and Langers. All are in the top3 of their craft ie ruck forward or mid or half back or winger or actually the top.

That's Β why they are AA players or will be in the future.Β

Just as an example Langers did not effect the game as usual in the first 3 quarters Β but what about his last quarter full of run carry and superb Clarry like handballs. Watch him and that's why he is a special talent on the wing. Great recruiting as with all of our players.Β

It's a pleasure watching them go about their footy and to see the team spirit and joy is so uplifting to all our fans many who have very patiently supported the Club through some dark periods.

That light at the end of the tunnel is hit a lot to shine about for a few years yet! Β

Always dreamed of watching the Demons win a flag and wondered what it'd be like.
Turns out it's even better than what I expected.
Reckon it was worth the wait but geez we endured more than our share of horror while waiting.

Me too Mr eating instrument. Let's be honest after 57 years we would take any win.Β

But I really believe that 100 points in under a half of a game is one for the ages.

I rate the dogs but they certainly had a great deal of help from the umps all year including their final against the lions which I think was this years 2nd best team and really starting to hit their stride. The dogs isn't a team I dislike....probably because they have struggled like us for so long but when they started booing a few of our shots on goal it was extra sweet. Plus I think they are a team that's mastered the lowering of knees to get such a good run.

I did feel a tad sorrow for that dogs balding fart ( looks a little like me)the camera shot to after the 3 goal onslaught. It was a look of shock, melancholy and dreams going up inΒ  smoke.

But no matter who we played didn't really matter( I had that out of my system from the prelim win). It was a masterΒ  victory of a team coming from over three goals down to a total dog whipping that categorically stated we were the best team by a mile and not only broke the long standingΒ  drought but signalled a good chance of back to back flags. It also showcased half a dozen youngsters that will replace the half a dozen maturing superstars we already have.

Bring it on.

Ps has anyone suggested Bont could have been fined for his Oliver bump or was that all legit?

Edited by leave it to deever

The bulldogs didn’t concede a 100 points a game this season until they conceded 100 against us in less than two quarters.

King Marcus has an immunity pin (actually in the custody of Michael Christian) that he can use to avoid getting cited. Michael doesn't even need to ask Marcus if he wants to use it, it's just understood.

Never paid much attention to him but I've watched those 3mins so often I've now got a crush on this girl.
She's not happy either.

Your weekend football trivia question. What is the significance of the following score line? Melbourne 53.40 v 25.18?

Well done. 358 points to 168.Β

I've just finished listening to the Demonland Podcast Grand Final review for the third time. As well as the well deserved exuberance it has THE BEST ANALYSIS ANYWHERE. Proper thoughtful, in depth, considered, evidence based, rational stuff, a pleasure to listen to. Every detail, every explanation of tactics, momentum changes, key moments and vital contributions was far and above that offered by traditional media. And all three presenters had the barely restrained glee that comes from supporting a premiership team.

Kudos all round.

Sure did.Β  I watched the 2nd quarter to bring myself down to earth, then watched the 3rd and 4th quarters which got me back right up.

I didn't think the Dogs back 6 had a good game (Cough up) but Sparrow kicked his goal unmarked at CHF, and in the 4th Jacko and TMc did similar.Β  What was the dogs defensive play?Β  Commentators said the Dogs were short a back man and with Wood pulling the pin asap they are now short 2.

Also in Bevos Blink of an Eye interview, he seemed very disappointed that the momentum was still with the Dees immediately after 3 quarter time break.

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan & Darcy have handicapped the Dogs short term.

They can't go out and headhunt a ready made KPD or ruck, cause they've not had any draft currency due to matching bids.

And they can't hit free agency cause they've recently brought in Treloar & likely don't have the cap space.

Wow and the forward line is (was) our Achilles heel. BBB in my opinion had a lot to do with the forward line functioning but everyone deserves full credit. Β
Β

After Bont’s goal I was already thinking about the next days headlines and what they were going to say. I was dreading the barrage of comments we were going to cop on social media. To have it turn around like that was just astounding. Like the famous song β€œfrom misery to happiness.”

The fact that some Bulldogs fans already were taunting us saying that we’d have to wait another 57 years shows some real short memories. The fact that our drought never made it to us of great relief to me.

I just finished watching it for the upteenth time and already want to watch it again. I’m still not tired of watching it. It was the best day of my life

Was bored this arvo and rewatched the Brisbane and Geelong finals. Damn that Sparrow kid can play. Set up some great goals in both and backed it in the GF. Might never be a Petracca or Oliver, but looks a very solid 200 plus player

The opposition was forced to play their best defender on Brown ( a proven goalkicker ) when weiderman Β played Β he got 2nd best defender and tmac got best defender.Β
As I posted in bailey thread, our leading goal kicker often got Β the 4 th defender if max or luke went forward . Picket and spargo rounded of our forward line with Trac doing cameos there.Β

Quite right Satan Many "experts" even D/Lers don't Β look at the bigger picture.

While Tmac and Kossie were not huge possession winners on the day they did enough team things and 1%ers to be valuable to the team.

People are so turned on by the no of goals and we have the luxury of enough players good enough to get scores in team play and not necessarily huge totals. But their skill when required suits our game plan. Examples are Maxy 16 goals) Dogga 17) ANB (16) and Charlie (16) I think.

When Fritta Mac and Kossie didn't score for a week or two some blockheads said their position was under threat.

I don't believe FOR ONE MINUTE knowing Goodies style they were ever going to be dropped as they always played team footy!

We triumphed because of our team ethos and deserved to succeed.

Long May it continue!Β

I'm expecting Jackson's goal tally to increase pretty dramatically next year. Was clunking all of his mark in the back end of the year.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologistΒ  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmedΒ the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).Β

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
