Macrae got crunched 4-5 times hard in the first quarter.
In the first 5 seconds Viney absolutely impales him, then Salem spears him like Goldberg about 75 seconds later.
I don't think its coincidence they both went in hard on the same player. I think it was a directive to tackle him hard and rattle him.
He had his second lowest disposal count for the year (by 1), I think the hits had an impact on him physically and mentally.
I watched a lot of bulldogs games this year and he never got that sort of attention from opposition.

It was a good move to target him. I think he is their best extractor and accumulator. Everyone talks about Libba, but McRae is far more damaging, and also far more susceptible for physical attention, whereas Libba will just give it back. I

Yep. Did their homework and followed through.

Geez there were some incredibly salty Dogs supporters around. i had one complaining even now about the non free kick to Schache in the 3rd quarter.

I was like you lost by 74 points... would need to be a hell of a lot of missed free kicks...

Congratulations to Easton Wood on his career. There are only two Bulldog's premiership captains, Charlie Sutton and him.

Although I think his decision may have been prompted by finding himself five metres behind Bayley Fritsch on a number of occasions!

(It wasn't a free kick to Schache. Brayshaw's action actually punched the ball.)

An observation. I didn't truly appreciate how fast Petracca and Oliver are. Time and time again they simply ran away from Dogs players. Bontempelli and Liberatore couldn't catch them.

Yes, I heard this mentioned in the media, so the last time I watched the replay I watched very closely. He has eyes only for the ball, he makes contact with the ball, play on.

That contest shouldn't have even happened. 30 seconds earlier Kozzy was strangled 30 metres out from goal ... nothing to see ... play on!!

I'm not sure whether I have posted this before. Apologies if I have. I have a particular meeting once a month. Football is inevitably discussed. One of the attendees is a Bulldog. At the most recent meeting (a week after the GF), not a word about the Grand Final.

If the Bulldogs had won I would have said to Mr Bulldog "I was disappointed about the result, but congratulations on the win".

I expected nothing else from Mr Bulldog. He is not a quality person.

In the FNWB forums, I was pleasantly surprised that a lot of Footscray fans were posting how they’d love to see us win a premiership next. But on Facebook I saw a lot of them teasing us saying it will take another 57 years until we win. Really? You end your (longer) drought 5 years ago and already are laughing at other’s? I certainly wouldn’t be laughing at St Kilda. I know what it’s like and they still have a shorter one than we did. There’s something to be said for not forgetting where you were a few years ago

Planning for my own Demons 2021 premiership season marathon on Kayo! Just contemplating whether rounds 1-22 are Kayo mini’s then watching  full games of round 23 and all finals, plus a round or two of golf and some sleep. That way only need to send my wife and kids away for a weekend! If I go full length matches round 1-22 will need to send them away for a week!

Watch again. Harmes had an even more obvious high free kick ignored  immediately before this incident.

Couldn't believe it, then they got a softer free given straight after Kozzies

Our premiership drought is now FOUR WEEKS old.

There are kids out there who have never seen a Melbourne premiership!!!

Will it ever end?

I know, Allus, it’s terrifying.  My grandson has now gone 3 weeks without ever seeing a premiership.i worry about his mental development and really hope he doesn’t grow up as traumatised as most of us on here.

A friend of mine sent me this pic. It’s from a friend of hers and although I’ve never met him I know he’s got at least two awesome qualities: (1) he’s a rescue-dog person, and (2) he’s a Dees man.

In watching the replay for the I( cant. remember now how many times), I have to say I thought young Sparrow did a really good job.  He didn't amass a large number of gets but was very effective with the disposals he had. Played a very good against the Lions final. Hes a very strong player for his age and I am looking forward to watching him improve. He and Jordan could be perhaps be close to the next Oliver/Petracca combo but the odds of that are slim. Nonetheless they are both very good players and have some great role models to follow. Gee we have some great young talent. I also forget that Petty is only 21. So 21 and under is him, the two others just mentioned, Rivers, Jackson, Spargo and Kozzie. Not too shabby. We are very well placed with the ages of our players to be dominant a long time.

Thanks for that. Whoops. Yep haven't lost a game yet with him in. That's a bloody good list of eight at 21 and younger. All of them very talented players. So its exciting times. I would argue the two to really go to a new level would be Kozzie and Jackson. No surprises there. I hope we can hold on to them. But I have give a shout out to Petty, when poor Adam  went down I was quite worried about losing such a great defender but young Harrison has been awesome .I wouldn't mind seeing him spend some time up forward. I reckon he would be a great at CHf. Have we missed anyone else?

Yep but just to mix it up a bit, I've been watching the prelim a couple more times because it was just such a sweeter team to smash. I'm not sure Geelong will get over what we did to them this year. Unless they recruit an entire new player group which they should probably do anyway, I think they will be traumatised for a very long time and I look forward to the the next time we meet them. I think Max should be able to wear some sort of superhero cape in our next game against them.

Coincidentally both my sisters rang me yesterday. Both lamenting the retirement of the “AFL’s most handsome player,” their words, not mine. And no, they’re not footy fans. Just men fans, I guess.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
