I look at the round 23 game differently now.

The comments from the peanut gallery were 'you've done nothing', 'the cats took their foot off the gas' etc

But the belief the players got from coming back against the odds at a hoodoo ground coupled with the momentum in the second half were simply breathtaking.

The 3 finals games were a juggernaut because of that momentum and belief.

And now we have a flag, the players know that their sacrifices are worth it, their selflessness is the key, there is nothingthey cannot do, there are no barriers to success any more and if they continue to work the next 5 years could be pretty special.

Go Dees

Surely drew some confidence from the 44 point comeback in that game when we were 19 down in the third quarter of the GF.

That and the Brisbane Round 12 game were huge for us, I think.

Bevo reflects of theme for the season... 😬😬😬

Why do so many people in the Media talk as if Footscray lost a close Grand Final? They got Thrashed and Murdered, and had absolutely no answer to what was going on around them.

I find it staggering

Right now I’m watching the match (yet again). [censored] we’re good!

Colleague at work: What have you been doing during lockdown QD?

QD: Nothing much, just catching up with what the Demons have been up too

Colleague: ah yeah . . . you did a good job this year

QD: yeah not bad

Colleague: so what are you do'in on the weekend?

QD: Probably watch the granny again

Colleague: I thought you would have watched it again by now

QD: Yeah, I have

Colleague: so how many times have you watched it?

QD: I try to limit it to once a day

Colleague: Phuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk

QD: yeah, but generally I fail with that goal on the weekends.

For tonight’s viewing pleasure ima go with round 23, ten minutes left in the 3rd, Clarrie kicks truly ending the Cats’ 9-goal run. Aaaaand unpause.

Just knocked up full rewatch #4, this time with the Perth MMM commentary.

It's crazy how the game just flips on that Bailey Smith fumble and Harmes gather. From that point on it's 16 goals to 1.

Dennis is a beautiful soul.

I watched the granny and the Rd 23 Geelong game again last weekend. This weekend the prelim gets a re-run. Not sure but i think i'll re-watch the Richmond game as well.

My husband just said to me “maybe we should watch the grand final again”.

God I married well.

Hi @Deebymistake , would you be able to use your lip reading skills to inform me what was said in the conversation between Goody and Burgess during the third quarter. If you click the link below it will take you right to the moment

This is a classic.  I wondered the same during the game.  When I slowed it down you can see Goody has a wry smile at what Burgess is saying.  Burgess clearly says towards the end  "Maxy said he is hot".  I wouldn't be surprised if this is Burgess relaying the message from Gawn to leave Jackson in the ruck.    Would make sense.  Burgess is probably saying the rotation is due but "Maxy said he is hot".  The body language shows restrained amusement.  Love it.

I just got done watching Round 23. I hadn’t watched it since before the granny and I gotta say it is infinitely more enjoyable to watch when you know the premiership is ours. ❤️💙

Last night I watched the gf in full (again).
Tomorrow night: prelim.

Then it’s rinse and repeat ‘til Round 1, 2022. 😁

Sometimes I only watch it for 31 seconds

The GF was amazing to be apart of don't get me wrong it was over and done with quiet quickly in the 4th.

I got chills down the spine watching Gawny slot the winner back in R23.

Im craving for the boys to make it back to the G.F at the G in 2022 for the club, Vic and NSW Dees sake.

It was a drought breaking Premiership first and foremost the Perth public were amazing and put on a fantastic spectacle no doubt.

Unfortunately there were 3 major elements missing from the win from my standpoint, which i won't elaborate on.

These have been mentioned by the players and will no doubt spur on the boys to make it back to back and cement a legacy for this grand old club.

And on the basis of all that, how great and important and sublime was Jake Lever’s kick to Max! The Kick That Won the Flag.

If you had to sum up his almighty football brain in one incident, that would do it nicely.

We're blessed to have both him and May in the team. Take one out and we probably wouldn't have made it. Take both out and we definitely wouldn't.

Swear to god they held the joint together during the middle of the season.
The forwards weren't doing much but the opposition just couldn't get past May and Lever.

Totally agree. See Sydney, Essendon, even Hawthorn games.

Then Jake produced the offensive kick of the year to Max in round 23. Although maybe Harmes to Fritta tops it.

BTW, has anyone else had the thought that the unarguable turning point of the Grannie, the Harmes steal, was number 4 to number 31 to turn the game, which by jumper number is Norm Smith to Ron Barassi!

Looks like they fixed the little dings in the top lip as well…

Was that the damage from the lid flying off?

This morning I finally found time to sit down and watch some of the footy shows leading up to the grand final and watched the last training session and pressers that was on fox footy. It's funny you are sitting there watching the build up then you think yes we actually did win this.

Hearing Max talk to Garry just what winning would mean to him and how he just wants it so much.

The I watched the beginning of On the Couch on the Monday after we won and just seeing Garry back and talking about it and his enjoyment about being involved and then hearing from Goody just made you all happy again.

Can't believe it was 2 weeks ago.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
