ins and outs versus the cats

with neitz and robbo with sore knees, one would assume that neither will play next week. i dont think there is heaps to come in from sandy but i think room needs to be made for sylvia and yze which is going to mean dropping a back (either chris johnson or wheatly) and dropping a midfielder. does holland get a run as a match up for oteens? we will need another tall back if ottens ablett n and hawkins all play.

in: holland, PJ, yze or sylvia

out: neitz and robbo (inj), wheatly,

i think if we lose neitz and robo there is a chance we will bring in another tall, either dunn (if fit) or newton (if judged ready)but im not sure who else to drop. yes players had bad days, but the players who didnt get touches were small backs...bell etc. i dont think bate godfrey green bruce or chunky could be dropped. im not sure if newton or dunn would make an impact so might be avoided. perhaps bate could be played as the other tall forward, but it leaves us without many 'true' forwards.

Agree. If Cats have those three talls, then Holland or Bizzell need to come into the team. Personally, I'd go for Bizzell, but Holland may be better for Ottens. Wheatley and Godfrey both proved today that they're not a part of the best 22 at the club, so they should make way.

In: P. Johnson, Sylvia, Pickett, Holland

Out: Neitz (inj.), Robertson (inj.), Wheatley, Godfrey

Ins. A.Yze, C.Sylvia, M.Newton, S.Buckley

Outs. D.Neitz, R.Robertson, P.Wheatley, A.Davey

Not bad.

If Pickett is fit, he gets the nod ahead of Buckley.

Not sure giving Yze one week in the VFL is going to change the way he goes about his game, but given our injury woes, we are not left with much choice.

i dont think godfrey was anywhere near our worst today. and it doesnt seem fair to drop him. he got a fair bit of the pill and kicked a couple of goals. i also dont think pickett is ready to come in yet,...another week at sandy before he gets up.

i think jamar can play out of the sqaure, but i dont think we can go with jamar and pj as our 2 forward targets...

Interesting ins. Paul Johnson was pathetic on Saturday. He dropped uncontested marks and did not get one hit out. Pickett was so unfit he played less than half a game and in the words of Mark Williams, who left him off the entire 2nd half " he was stuffed".

Then again they should be obvious ins the way we are going.

OUT: Wheatley (got your 100 games, now disappear), Neitz, Robbo

IN: Holland (Young Hawkins must think this game is easy, wait til the mechano man hassles him all night!!) Sylvia (forward line) and Newton (Full Forward

wouldn't mind seeing dunn back in for robbo's spot, but i dont think he is ready, sylvia can play forward line

we have to roll the dice on newton at full forward

dude thats a terrible comment. Yes paul Johnson dropped a pretty crucial sitting late in the game but he was definalt one of the best players for sandy. His work around the ground was very good. and he took a few nice marks as well as the ones he dropped! bring him in! Pickett did look very unfit

There is nothing more I would love to see than Melbourne drop C Johnson for Newton. Therer is not a chance in hell it will happen. Everyone seems to think Newton has a bad attitude and CJ is a player of the future. I disagree entirely.

Newton is miles away from playing AFL footy, he will be lucky if he is not dropped from the Sandy's first after his game on Saturday, he got towelled in the first half. Pickett couldn't run out 2 quarters at Sandy he is 2-3 weeks away. Buckley may get his chance if they drop CJ. Ferguson plays well on N Ablett, smashed him in last years VFL grand final, Rivers plays on Hawkins and Carroll gets the hairy cat. Whelan on G Ablett better match up for him.

If it is dry and Neitz and Robbo don't play this would be my team

B Whelan Carroll Ferguson

HB Bell Rivers Green

C Bruce Johnstone Moloney

HF Buckley Miller Bate

FF Davey Sylvia Holland

R White Mcdonald Jones

Int Jamar Wheatley Brown Godfrey

If wet Biz comes in for Ferguson

I'm not so sure Dr, what part of his game is he lacking? If you're worried about consistancy we're playing Miller at CHF every week.

Newton doesn't have a bad attitude at all, I've been watching him play now thru 2 seasons. but what he is, is not ready yet. He's still young in his mind, not his fault, its his genes. He needs more time playing against hard headed men @ the vfl level. He's worth waiting for, be patient.

It's not consistancy he is not ready for AFL footy, he needs to cement his spot at Sandy first, why play someone who is not ready and we all will expect so much from him if he does play. Let him play well at Sandy and bring him in when he is not going to be our number one target up forward. Don't get me wrong the kid has a lot of ability, but he has to show a lot more at Sandy to be even considered.

Not one single hit out, except for the 28 hit outs he got (according to Hoju on Demonology, who counts the stats himself I believe). Some people just see what they want to see I think. Those sitters in the last quarters were howlers, yes, but prior to that PJ was easily the dominant ruckman for the game, both in hitouts and around the ground. Don't let a couple of (admittedly very bad) mistakes lend bias to your view.

As to the ins and outs:

Ins: Sylvia

Outs: Who cares

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
