I've long wondered how you dealt with that - highly disappointing game and then Big Carl dropping you in it. 58 scoring shots against, and then we come out the next week with a 5 goal win over the bombers. What a rollercoaster.

I went to this game with my now wife just before we started going out. She is a Cats supporter but was pretty nice about the whole thing. I think she just thought I was an [censored] for following this team and she still did until a couple of months ago 🤣

There are so many worst games 😩 - I remember a game vs Geelong at the G in 89 we kicked 2 goals for the whole game! We beat them a month later at Waverley by 3 points.

A lot of bests too though - for me the 1988 Semi Final at the G against the Pies was magic. Huge crowd, beautiful day, fights before the game started and we led them all day. We were sitting down near the fence and when our bench players ran past to warm up I shouted out to one of them - now I'd don't know if it was Viney, Lovell or Febey (they all had the blonde tipped mullets) but what I do know is that judging by the look I got I called out the wrong name 😂

I had a lot of relos who barracked for the Pies and I was taught to love Melbourne and hate Collingwood. The following week at Waverley where we beat the Blues to enter our first GF since 64 was fantastic as well. Unfortunately I missed the game against the Eagles in the EF as I had a friend's birthday party but there were a few of us who followed Melbourne and when we heard we'd won the game we all went ballistic (as ballistic as a bunch of 6 year olds can get).

First game I was like 2 (28 now) so don’t remember 

I was at all the finals and grand final game in 2000 but again don’t remember much 

so the best game For me is the Geelong final in 18. When Hannan was running for goal the suspense was electrifying!! Best game for me

worst was the Geelong belting along with the bombers belting  a few years ago. I left by half time at the Geelong game and was drunk as and they had the breath test station there. They were surprised I could walk after what I blew.. and that was only me sitting thru it for half a game. I was with Geelong mates so I couldn’t deal with them nor the Melbourne players that day haha

Yeah remember walking from the old red seats to the exits of the Olympic stand and there were scarves in the bin. As a youngster I couldn’t understand why you’d dump a footy scarf in the bin but there you go.

Esseondon have dealt us some heartbreakers over the years.

Yep, walking out of Waverley had a death in the family feel.... I didn't mention it as my worst previously as I think I've  trained my brain to repress that memory. 1988 and 2000 GF to be blunt I turned up only hoping to win but expecting to get pummelled, which we surely did.

First

1960 Grand Final...just old enough by that time (8) to sneak out Saturday arvo and catch the tram in to the G and get in the last quarter when they just opened the doors like they did then in the old days. Standing room bay 13 of the old s stand...it was packed I could hardly see anything.......someone held me up so I could see at the very end and I remember Barassi holding up the cup..

1964 GF   I was 13 then and had a front row seat behind the punt Rd goals. I was a Demon devotee by then and had attended every game that year and still have my 1964 MFC membership card....framed of course with the 64 Finals tickets next to it. I camped overnight at the G to walk around inside the stadium, at a crawl, with thousands of others, to get to the ticket selling window. I was so overcome by the last 10 minutes of that game I was out of my mind. For those few minutes after Collingwood hit the front I was dying inside only for a real miracle to occur....Frog! I just remember jumping up and down a lot on those old wooden seats...and I certainly did not sit down again until the siren blew. No one else was in their seats!

Worst

Waverly...the record defeat was unbearable.....but really worse still was 186 at the cattery.

It was the first time I left a game at half time. I was shocked to find so many others of the dees faithful at that so familiar south geelong station.

We were desolate..........Friday night.........we really have a score to settle here.

I think I am responsible for the turnaround and win the next week, as my after game speech was clearly awe inspiring.

As I said I told them to "shower and move on".

First:

1996 late in the season Melb v Carlton. Melbourne the underdogs came out and surprised the baggers and Neitz kicked 8. 

Best:

2000 QF against Carlton for obvious reasons.

Worst:

Probably not that common but it’s the rnd 2 2016 when we lost to that Essendon reserves team. After beating a much fancied Giants side the week before I thought we were in for a good season (we also won all our pre-season games). It was just an embarrassing loss to a team who rightly shouldn’t have won a game all year. A close 2nd, and also in 2016, was that loss to Carlton to kill our finals chances. And 3rd, even though I wasn’t there. has to be that capitulation to the Pies in rnd 23 2017.

 

I can't recall my first game but the earliest memory I have is the game where Jeff Farmer took Mark of the Year at the MCG, which Google tells me was Round 22, 1998 vs RIchmond.

The best win I've been to was the 2018 Elimination Final. The anticipation of our first final in 12 years, the roar of the crowd before the bounce, the feeling we were relevant again, the hot start, the Hannan goal, the Selwood free kick that cost them a goal, the win, the roar of the crowd after the win, and then drinking in the bar with MFC fans singing the song for hours afterwards.

Other contenders include:

1. the 2018 Semi Final
2. the 2006 Elimination Final (I was sitting behind St Kilda supporters who were arrogantly mocking us as they built their lead. Then Gehrig tried to step around Carroll...)
3. Round 20, 2016 when we beat Hawthorn for the first time in 10 years
4. Round 7, 2008, the big Fremantle comeback
5. Round 22, 2005, when Robbo kicked a Warne-esque leg break goal to get us into the finals

I honestly can't pick the worst game I've been to (I wasn't at the 186 or 148 point losses). The 104 point loss to Hawthorn in Round 1, 2008 was pretty bad. Round 5, 2009 vs Adelaide was a shocker - Saturday twilight game at the G, no one there, we kicked 1 goal in the first three quarters.

Only moved to Oz (Perth) in 2007 so haven’t been to a huge number of games. 

First game was a win v Richmond at the MCG in June 2011

Best game was a win v Geelong in Geelong June 2015 - was the dees first win in Geelong in 20 odd years or something. Was the coldest I have ever been at a footy game too, absolutely freezing. 
 

Worst game was 2018 prelim against the eagles. Went in confident after beating them a few weeks before and game was over by quarter time. Spent the second half in the bar

We were all pretty well lubricated and i was in my most vociferous, rambunctious form - particularly as the lead grew.

IIRC we kicked the first goal of the last quarter to get it out to a 46 point lead, having dominated the match up till that point. When it sailed through i yelled PERCENTAGE!!!! at the top of my lungs.

Salmon proceeded to destroy us and my mates have never let forget that cry.

I still yell percentage from time to time - buts it's fair to say i'm a lot more conservative in my timing.    

I remember that game - so much for a 40 point comfort factor! A few years ago I bumped into Paul Salmon in the East Melbourne fish&chip shop (true). I couldn’t help myself and reminded of that last quarter - he remembered of course, just said he nothing to lose, left Jimmy in the square and played forward. Unbelievable he marked everything that came into the forward line, and then went back and slotted the goals

Can’t name a ‘worst’ game, there are far too many that my brain has managed to block them.

Best games for nostalgic reasons are the elimination and semi at the G in 87 that my Dad took me to.

I was 11 years old, an already defeated Melbourne supporter who had stood alone in a red and blue jumper every week at ‘footy clinic’ at my primary school. 
The MCG shook in a way I’ve never experienced as we pummelled North and the Swans. It blew my mind at that age and I’ll never forget it. 
It came close in 2018 but I long for that feeling again.

I think the first game I attended as a kid with my mother, was against St Kilda at Waverley… it was freezing cold, wet and we lost badly. The thing I remember the most was some [censored] behind us threatening to beat some guy senseless in the car park after the game.

Best game I attended was much more recent. It was the QB game against the Pies, when Watts goaled from the pocket after running from the flank and sealed what was a close game.

Worst game was probably the first game I ever took my son to, which we were expected to win easily. It was the round 1 game in 2013 against Port and was Viney’s debut. We got destroyed by 79 points, and to add insult to injury, Mitch Clark, returning from injury that had kept him out for most of 2012, did his ankle. The only saving grace was seeing Viney score his first goal in Dees colours.

First: Although I was taken to many games prior to this one, the earliest game I can remember attending (which fittingly some people have selected as their 'worst') is the 2002 Semi Final against the Crows at the MCG. I would've been around 6 at the time, so what turned out being a 40+ point final quarter turnaround that led to a Crows win was mostly forgotten on the train ride home.

Best: The 2018 Semi Final against Hawthorn is an obvious choice, but I'm going to lean towards a slightly deeper cut here, being our win against the same team back in round 20, 2016. I actually went to this game by myself mostly as a spur of the moment decision as some other plans had fallen through for that afternoon. I never expected for us to get close to the Hawks let alone pull off what might've been the upset of the entire 2016 season. Sam Weideman made his debut that day and scored two goals with his first two kicks while Billy Stretch's burst through the 50 to slot a goal to give us the lead in the final quarter will be forever etched in my mind. With that win, we were able to keep our SLIGHT finals hopes alive which would come crashing down after a dour performance against Carlton a couple of weeks later.

• The 'Comeback Match' against Freo in '08
• ANZAC Eve/Jonesy's 300th earlier this year
• Queens Birthday 2017 with Watts kicking the sealer
• For the sheer randomness, our final quarter comeback against the Giants in 2013

Worst: While it would be easy to select any of the 10-15 games I attended while Neeld was coach, the occasional 15 goal belting was sadly hardly a surprise at the time. I'm instead leaning towards the Roos era, and Round 21 in 2014, where fittingly during Member Appreciation Round, we managed to kick 3.16 against a GWS side who for the entire second half, could barely interchange players due to a calamity of injuries. While 2014 was hardly an inspiration season from a win/loss perspective, everyone (myself included) expected that we would account for the Giants quite easily. Saying that, you could tell we were in for a rough day when Rhys Palmer of all players roved a loose ball and slotted an easy goal within the opening minute.
