Pretty sure it was mentioned on 360, to get out of their slump Brisbane actually set a couple of their players to rough up the opposition. Hope we are ready.

re-watch the game from earlier in the season, they already tried this. Stopped working once umpires paid attention.

I get the impression that the AFL want to complete the season ASAP and, as such there'll be no bye.

I reckon all 5 remaining matches (after this weekend) will be played at Optus.

Same quarantine conditions for all teams.

Neutral ground for all teams is a bonus.

Doubt it, AFL does not care about Neutral grounds or any kind of advantage. They make it up as they go, Brisbane got the benefit of playing every game at Gabba last year...

When we played them in Round 12, their first half dominance came not through the smalls but the talls.

Daniher and Hipwood were marking everything and that gave them their scoring opportunities.

In the second half our tall defenders improved and when we started spoiling their marks, they struggled to score.

Well Bailey scored 4 goals. and Hunt helped keep their smalls quiet.

I think both games will sell out in Launceston.  Tasmanian supporters are starting to give the AFL the middle finger when rubbish roster matches are scheduled down here (see Saints vs Freo last weekend).  But having a finals match down here, especially with Franklin and Green involved, I think you'll see a pretty decent turnout.

They have and tickets are being scalped online for $250+ according to a The Age article I read this afternoon.

Big game for me personally, i have a brother who is a mad lions supporter and i'd much rather not have to hear his annoying cheering and gloating.

Key strength for the Lions is there midfied. Obviously this lines up with a strength of ours. I'm nervous about this as this will likely swing the game either way and i don't think a great midfield should get soundly beaten like we have on occassions this year.

Key points to focus on from the game earlier in the season.

Pickett targeted Rich all night. Nullified what was a great weapon in his long kick by pressuring every disposal.

Their on ball bigrade really went quiet after half time (they all still managed 23-28 touches each).

Hipwood, who isn't going to play this time around, kicked 1.4. Sort of kept us in it early.

Zac Bailey, we didn't really have an answer for. Salem was the main guy on him but didn't have the pace to stop him on the break.

Daniher gassed really badly. The famous clip of that team goal off half back happens because Daniher basically walked with his arms stretched in attempt to stop his opponent from running off him.

We need to be on it for all 4 quarter this time around. We won't get 2nd chances this time around. I think our defence is more than capable of holding up but i do have concerns on the Bailey and Cameron match ups. Jackson and Gawn have to expose their ruck situation. We have the biggest ruck weapons of all 8 teams, Brisbane probably have a decent ruckman by the standards of some of the other top 8 teams. So we need to lay down a marker and get future opponents worried.

With such a hectic finish to the home and away and there are not many privileges for a top of ladder.

How did the Dogs get an 8 day break going into the finals?

Someone had to play on the Sunday so someone was going to get an 8+ day break.

Who cares. We got 7 days, which is better than 6.

Lions have won their past two at Adelaide Oval. I feel you can only really count their form from 2019 when they became good. I know we play AO well, but it’s not a venue that has troubled them.

Yes but this year's game was vs Adelaide, a bottom 4 side. They didn't play there in 2020. In 2019 they beat Port there, but in 2019 Port didn't make the finals.

In the same time period we've played there four times to their twice, and one of our wins is far more meritorious (Port this year) than any win they've probably ever had at that venue.

Regarding Max's wife giving birth, I am pretty sure he's mentioned that she is due in early November. During the Spring Racing carnival time.

Thanks for clarifying.

The herald sun gave a misleading headline that Gawn’s wife may have been due in September.

The Herald Sun loves misinformation and scare tactics. Rest assured though, they can’t make up gestational periods.

The Dogs got 9 days.

They also don't have quarantine procedures, fly in fly out.

Would prefer at least some advantage to being top of ladder.

We have had flown a fair bit in the last 3-4 weeks.

I care! Why did we not get the Sunday game?

We have been dealt absolutely no advantage whatsoever by finishing on top. ZILCH. I totally agree with Pert.

Ok, if we win, yes we get a week off, so there is some advantage there. But if we lose, what advantage do we get by playing either the Dogs or Essendon at Tassie. Again, as a losing qualifying finalist you at least got a home final in the semi!!! NIET! However, I bet if Brisbane lose, they will want their next game at the Gabba.

We have been stiffed here. Best side all year.

Yes understand that.

Though would like to win.

An extra day will have have given us more time for the team to recover from niggles and to prepare for the final series (a small advantage).

If lose, then we are in the back of the pack and 6 days is fine, given we would have had more prep time for the final series.

Again, what did the Dogs do to get such an advantage going into a final series. They will have more time to refine problems and allow sore players to benefit, Nine Days, no quarantine!

We have been subservient to AFL Corp, no benefits at all, for our position on the ladder.

It was a bit confusing on the first read but basically Brisbane is the only team not to have played another Final 8 team in the last 8 rounds of this year.

Brisbane's last 8 games

rd 16 Beat adelaide 52pts

rd 17 lost to St K 32 points

rd 18 Lost to Rich 20pts

rd 19 beat Gold Coast 49pts

rd 20 Lost to Hawks 12pts

rd 21 Beat Freo 64pts

rd 22 Beat Pies 85 pts

rd 23 Beat West Coast 38 pts

They've beaten up a few sides, had 3 losses and played no one in the 8

Not a scary proposition.

Robinson doesn’t worry me, but Andrews is a very good player and someone who has a lot of mongrel about him. He blanketed Weideman last time. We need our forward line absolutely firing to beat them on Saturday night.

If Andrews blankets Brown and McDonald plays another stinker, we could be in trouble there.

I think this is the reason they're pushing WA over SA while Port remains in contention.

The two night slots are the prime time slots. The club and the AFL want us playing in one of them.

7 days is more than enough for us to prepare. If you're of the view that 7 days is light on, how does Brisbane feel? Why give our opponent more time to prepare?

And why would you put us on Sunday, the dead zone timeslot - whoever loses that game then would have a shorter break into the semi, despite finishing above their opponent. That would be unfair.

You're complaining about the Dogs being "given" the Sunday game. They have no choice but to win it, and if they do they'll then be on a six-day break into their semi whereas we or Brisbane will be on a 7-day break.

It's blindingly obvious why we're not on the Sunday.

And as to venues, there is evidence to suggest we were offered a choice of venue and chose the Adelaide Oval. Which probably makes sense, given that AFAIK the Melbourne Football Club has never, not once, played at York Park. Do you really want us to go play at a venue we've never played at before for a massive final, against a side who played there just a month ago? Meanwhile just a few weeks ago we were stuck on a plane for a day, then belted the Suns by 100 points, then got put in a hotel for a week, then beat West Coast in Perth with a 95% pro-Eagles crowd.

The "choice" was as blindingly obvious as the reason we're playing on Saturday night.

I think any team that plays against Harris Andrews goes in with the plan being pretty simple, which helps and it's literally don't let him mark the ball.

If he plays on McDonald i imagine Tom will try and pull him away from the danger zones or at least compete really strongly in the air and bring it to ground.

I don't think Andews has been at his absolute best either which does help.

I'll make sure i bump into Uncle Byron at AO, better make sure i have ample liquids inside beforehand to prevent any soreness in the shoulder during the viewing of the game.

So it's official, we are off to Perth after this weekend:

Melbourne and Geelong will travel to Perth after their finals in Adelaide as the AFL prepares in advance for a potential preliminary and grand final in Perth. The Demons, who will “host” Brisbane in a qualifying final in Adelaide this weekend, will go to Perth on Sunday after their game and, like Geelong, must be ready to remain there for the duration of the finals – depending on results.

I just went onto ticketek and can pretty much get 10 tickets anywhere on the ground... We need to sell more tickets.

Does anyone know how many Adelaide based Melbourne supporters we have?

Otherwise, club needs to be smart and get the Neal-Bullen's, Trengroves, Petty, Vinces, Toumpas etc families on speed dial and hand out free tickets... non negotiable.

Do we have anyone on demonland that has contact into demon headquarters? Message needs to be conveyed.

(need to avoid a similiar scenario to dogs v essendon in tasmania, which was a dogs home game but was full of dons supporters)

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9.
