Finals 2021

Mark Alvey isn't quite right. Certainly if concussed in the preliminary final and if there is no bye a player definitely wouldn't be able to play in the GF. However, if there is a bye a player might be able to play but only after passing all the necessary medical tests. The 12 day "rest" is just the minimum time away from the game.

I like the sentiment that underpins your post Cass, BUT please don't mention 1958 in the context of our finals campaign.

One more win and I can use 1956 😉

As a gen xer I was lucky to get both of my shots.

I’d love to go, but would give up my seat to my dad and uncle (as this will be his last grand final.) But I can’t see them going through with it after the lockdown was extended.

Just putting it out there, if anyone has a GF ticket guarantee, and it is in Perth and sadly they can't go, I would be willing to pay, and I would be flying back to Australia anyway, so the quarantine is no matter, I will need to do anyway. And even if we don't make it I still get to see family. Is obviously a risk because it feels like a jinx to plan for a GF we are not in yet, but it is doing my head in at the thought of missing it. Seeing a prelim in Perth wouldn't hurt either.

Agree rpfc, but the govt have no stomach for this at the moment. Despite other countries doing it, the outcry from the unvaccinated (particularly those who’ve actively chosen not to) will be too noisy.

I'm right on board for a Vax passport once everyone has had the chance to be vaxed, but not when half the population haven't had access yet.

Got my second shot tomorrow. Also Gen X.

If Tasmania stays COVID free and the Grand Final has crowds, if we make it I am happy to travel anywhere to be at the game.

If the grand final is in Perth and we can’t go due to being filthy Victorians, I would be happy to give my grand final priority access to WA Melbourne supporters. Just because we get to miss out doesn’t mean everyone else should. The more support we could get for the boys in finals the better.
Should this awful situation arise, I would be more than happy to have private conversations with WA fans who post here to try and help them out.

You prove to me you got a plane ticket that will get you back in time for the game, and you’re in the draw!

I think every club should be hoping the Eagles don't make finals. we can't have their entitled, idiotic supporters spoiling finals with their moronic booing

Could they miss the finals but still have their supporters turn up to boo both teams for the final series?

I could really see them do it. And walk away claiming they were robbed.

Great idea @Jaded and I'm up for it too. The wife and I have grand final preferences slots and I would hate to see them go to waste.

We're in NSW, so we have fa chance of going anywhere in September thanks to Ms Gold Standard who saved Australia.

p.s. sorry to ACT today.

oh and to Vic for the extra covid clowns who flew from Sydney to Melbourne yesterday and had a whole plane of people have to quarantine.

anyways, I assume they haven't discussed a NSW hub?

Unless 50,000 tickets go to corporates, I wouldn’t be surprised if the game is open up to the general public at Optus after members have been catered for.

Normally in a grand final each club gets about a 15-17% allocation of club members. So at the very least that’s about 9,000 MFC members that will be catered for. But  here’s the thing - how many MFC members reside in Perth to go toward that 9,000. And with the border closures, how many more are coming from interstate to get to that 9,000.

Then throw in the oppositions 9,000 allocation and you’d have much the same scenario.

Furthermore, 40% of the GF allocation go to AFL and MCC members, which obviously won’t be happening at a Perth GF.

So I’d say the tickets will go to the general public.

If two big enough clubs make it into an Adelaide or Perth GF, [censored] the general public, tickets should be allocated to the two clubs' members 50/50% and only opened up more broadly if/when the clubs don't use them all up.

Make this the fans' GF.

The thought of Melbourne breaking the drought anywhere bar the G especially if I can't go is seriously starting to make me feel sick 🤮

I was really depressed about it a week or two back but I've made peace with it now. I think.

I'll do whatever I can to get there wherever it is, but I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm a 5050 chance at very best. (Plus we've got to make it).

Meanwhile Geelong stroll into finals with 3 straight games at home.

I missed memo on exactly how they managed to negotiate this (or were they COVIDED earlier in season?).

Yeah I agree with that as all members will be catered for after the corporate fat cats are catered for first.

However I can’t see the members allocation being anywhere near taken up due to draconian border rules and thus plenty of GA will be available.

Anyone concerned about the removal of the pre finals bye?

Our players aren’t robots, and after the insane amount of travel and quarantine and 60 minute quarters, the boys needs a physical and mental refresh week off IMO.

We’re not Geelong who pretty much haven’t left their house for 3 weeks.

I think we will rest a few players this week in preparation. The inclusions in the extended bench tell me it’s looking likely. We will need to beat Geelong most likely to give ourselves a shot at top 2 and the right to pick a venue wherever that may be. So in that sense resting this week makes more sense.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
