Time to brood Bowey off half back. Rivers shanks way too many.

I hope we didn’t trade up for 2 first round picks in our premiership window to not play them in the firsts?

Lol.

Rivers and Jackson have played every game when fit this year in the side sitting top of the ladder with a 13-1-3 record, and you've decided there's a problem that we might have made drafting errors?

Not sure the relevance, Jackson, Rivers and Pickett were drafted in 2019 ready made players and played matches in there first season with the Dees.

Bowie and Laurie drafted in 2020 which we traded up our 2021 pick to get. Would assume we would go for ready made players in our window opposed to project players who will take years to come on.

I had given you the benefit of the doubt and assumed you were complaining about Rivers being dropped for shanking it and therefore missing out on being in the firsts.

I now see you're complaining about Bowey (and Laurie) not being in the firsts.

Which is even more ridiculous.

The fact we have last year's draftees getting stronger and better at Casey is a tick for our list management, not a cross.

Bowey is ready to go it's just that it's tough to get a game we are pretty settled but Rivers would want to find some form soon or Bowey will take his place.

I think it's time we started looking at giving Gus a run on the ball. I acknowledge his performance as a defensive winger has been admirable so far this season but our clearance game is broken at the moment. Feel like AVB or Harmes could be as effective in the defensive wing role.

It is one ace we have up the sleeve. He is a natural in the middle. I do worry about filling that wing side though it’s just a bit of an unknown.

The wing is a bit of a concern, my take on Gus' role this season is that his strongest asset has been his ability to influence aerial contests, often putting himself in harms way. AVB has no fear and is also a good size. He can do it.  I have a vague recollection of Gus being pretty clean by foot going forward when we were blowing teams away in 2018. He was damaging. We need that version of him at the moment

Yeah fair point on AVB being able to influence in the air like Gus does. Keeping an eye on the ball and just halving the contest where he has to. I would question if he can run out games regularly at the moment but that can be improved. Something to think about at least.

Gus’s kicking has always been a hard thing to nail down. I’ve always labelled him as a bit of a ‘confidence kicker’ in that when he’s up and running he runs through the middle and kicks well but then there’s the times he butchers it consistently. I’ve never thought there was a whole lot wrong mechanically with his foot skills. If nothing else it would just give us a different look at delivery into the 50.

I don’t know what’s going to happen but it is starting to look a bit predictable through the middle.

Petty looked lame so id withdraw him.

Rivers and Jackson could do with being managed.

Bowey, Bedford and Sparrow deserve a try.

Bedford not mentioned by Goodwin in a long list of players they think are performing well at VFL level. I think therefore Melksham is more likely than Toby. But the FD could have a change of heart. I agree with your calls about Bowey and Sparrow though. I'd seriously think about Weideman for Jackson and Bowey for Rivers.

He already is. The last 2-3 weeks we've had Jordon more on the wing and Gus more in the middle/forward.

We won’t be playing Gold Coast

Channel 7 said we are playing the Dogs at the G. Dogs already back in Victoria.
So frustrating to miss yet another big home game crowd. Just not sure how we financially survive.

ANB has played 98 senior games of footy.  Just wow!

And Viney is very limited.  He's ordinary.

Langdon has gone a bit off in recent weeks with his hospital handballs.  But I'm not saying drop him.

Ahh look, frustrating as.  But lets be positive.  We're on top still.  'Should' make the finals  As we are Melbourne though it will likely be in position 5-8.  We haven't absolutely embarrassed ourselves just yet.  So I'm predicting that to come.  But if you ever thought we were gonna waltz through and lose  2/3 games and win the flag you are deluded.  We have to be consistent, accurate and have a lot of luck with injuries.  blah blah blah.....

It's a tough competition and no team is perfect.

Plus the umps were [censored] last night.   really really atrocious I thought.

Max's 50m penalty just ridiculous and an embarrassment for the rule makers. Imagine that decision in a grand final, after all the investment, all the development.  It's just a frightening position to put umpires in.

Yes and no. Definitely drifted through the middle for most of his possessions but I reckon I saw him at about 3 centre bounces for the game. Would like to see a bit more of a run through there but that’s not for me to decide.

To clarify - Not meaning centre bounces, more meaning mid/forward. If you look at Gus and Jordon's heat maps it makes it pretty clear. Interestingly I noticed Goody switched it up and had Jordon at a few bounces late in the game. Still not sure why Pickett wasn't played through there like usual though.

Personally I think Gus played better on the wing.

I like Harmes getting midfield minutes more than Viney.

Totally agreed with this; double the action man, double the speed, double the endeavour with the team.

That 50 m, as it turned out, determined the game.
Ridiculous rule and an even worse implementation in that particular instance, as Max was following his opponent which is allowed

IN: Melksham

OUT: Viney or vandenBerg

Need some skill in the team, that was extremely apparent tonight.

Greg Stafford time to move on too IMO.

Viney is the out. Vanders in an in. Vanders was rather good after so long out of footy, so he deserves another crack at a few tasks so he can get the V8 steamroller going again.

I doubt either will come out anyway, both are Goody faves.

Didn't think vB was bad, just more thinking about the balance of our midfield and I think having both of them in means we've tilted a bit too far away from skill and it's going to cost us with our delivery forward.

I’m flat, not sure where to start.. our centre work isn’t working, so need to start there. I’d like to bring Bowey in, Viney needs to go.. Max looked so flat tonight, was taking pills at half time.

Must keep Jackson in for the ruck and give Gawn a well-deserved rest for the coming game - he must be fit and switched on in the finals.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
