I think that ridiculously priced GF corporate packages are usually available.

If the Dees made the GF, and I missed out in the MCC ballot, I'd pay the extorbinant price for a ticket. Well, up to say $2,000. Might be my last chance to see a flag. (Slight exaggeration ... I'm not THAT old!!!)

Anyone with an MFC membership thats paid for a grand final guarantee would get a ticket. Even if we are not at full allocation for the grand final, those members would get first priority as we do every week when tickets go on sale (if capacity is limited to 20,000 I doubt the grand final will be played in Victoria anyway!). They cannot sell you these memberships if seating allocation exceeds what a competing club gets on grand final day. It is why we are one of the few clubs in the competition that still have those memberships available. Most clubs have sold out of their allocation a long long time ago.

edit: the above applies to MFC membership only. I have no idea what the deal with the MCC is.

I should f'n hope so with the MFC memberships, you pay a premium for the extra add on package of a GF guarantee ticket or it's included in your Membership package.

Anything other than this scenario and their will be carnage all over the place.

Did the AFL offer the GF packages at the start of the year like they do in previous years.

Like the Carlton draft tent and the like?

I’m MCC restricted member and have the MFC/MCC Premium Package. Probably won’t be full for another 3 years so won’t be able to enter MCC ballot.

Purchased the Grand final add-on in early June.

Re: Reduced capacity due to covid- Dees membership advised as follows to me

If you add on the grand final guarantee and due to covid the capacity is reduced etc. those with the GFG will be put into a ballot system. If you do not receive access to purchase a grand final ticket you will be refunded the $229.

I've been an interstate member for around the last 10 years (suffered through some putrid performances in that time as well).  I've purchased a GFG membership with the MFC since early 2018 for myself and added another for my my youngest son around Rd 4 this season.

Unless the GF was played in a closed stadium without crowds, if the above was to apply, I wouldn't purchase another membership of any kind from the MFC.  Don't care if they refund the value of the GFG package, that's not what I paid up for.

Seriously do hope this is all a total hypothetical worst case scenario that doesn't eventuate for anyone as playing a GF in front of a minimal capacity crowd wouldn't be a great outcome all round but right now, I guess anything is possible right.

I know it's only a hypothetical, but if that does happen - don't punish the club for something completely outside of their control. They don't control the crowd numbers, nor the amount of tickets the AFL allocates.

I've got my GFG and if that scenario were to happen would I be disappointed? You bet. Would I punish the club I love for something they have 0 control over? Not a snowballs chance in hell....and back ;)

This thread has an air of entitlement about it. In the current environment, we've been pretty fortunate to;

1. Be able to watch footy at all.

2. Be able to attend games.

3. Be playing well.

4. Have arguably the most exciting list and have our 'window' open.

5. Have a stable admin and be financially independent, noting the $1.8 million hit that purchasing a GF guarantee will help cover.

For those bemoaning the lack of value in their MCC membership, ditch it. If you want to attend the GF and can afford it, buy an MFC membership with GF guarantee if you don't have one. Or if you do have an MFC membership then upgrade it. If you can't afford it then ditch MCC, simples.

Our success over the next 5+ years will depend somewhat by our membership and willingness/ability to contribute financially to the club.

I'm terribly concerned the NSW lockdown (I am in NNSW) will extend for 8 weeks and I won't be able to get down for the GF. I floated with wife the idea of isolating in QLD for 2 weeks then heading down. Frosty response ensued.

Look if the GF was capped at 20,000 And there were a total of 40,000 members from each team that had purchased the equivalent of a GFG membership, then I'd probably begrudgingly accept a lottery to redeem my entitlement.  But in a scenario where the attendance was capped at say 60,000 and 30,000 of those tickets went to the 16 other non competing AFL teams, sponsors, Gillam's neighbors and the Australian PM, then I would be openly hostile towards the club if they didn't fight and somehow obtain enough tickets to honor their end of the bargain.

I wouldn't see it as punishing the club, I would just see it as reciprocating the breaking of a contract of loyalty and finance.  The clubs administrators and the AFL really do need to step up to the plate and ensure that a scenario like this doesn't play out.

I know scenario like this seem to play out every year, but I think it's about time the AFL and clubs prioritise AFL club memebers over the big corporates etc.  As it stands currently, I have little faith that these entities actually get it.  I'm really not convinced that the AFL are putting enough energy and priority into looking after members right now during the season.  My old man pays for MFC reserve seats.  Has done for a number of years, including last season, when he got exactly nothing in return for them.  This season when quite sizable crowds have generally been permitted at the MCG, the club, the AFL, the MCC and the ticketing companies haven't been able to get their act together a provide an allocation of seating accessible only to those with reserved seating within their ticketing system and he's had to randomly access tickets anywhere in the outer.  It's not that the AFL and the clubs couldn't do something, it's that they can and they arn't.  It's pretty much as if they've said "thanks for your on going loyalty, now we are going to take that for granted and on-sell your more valuable reserve seating spots for a second time at a premium price, so that we can pay for Gillam's yacht to be moored down at Sandrinham".  It's a huge breach of trust and it's about time that these parties realise that if they don't pull their heads out of their dates, there are consequences.

Deva, the short version of my rant is that while I get where your comming from and admire you unbreakable commitment to the MFC, personally, loyalty is a mutual thing and I wouldn't take getting [censored] over by the club and the AFL and still continue my existing arrangements with them as if nothing had ever happened.

The Gabba.

McGowan would be too risk averse to let anyone but WA locals attend and the airfares would be horrendous.

As someone living in South East Queensland, there is absolutely no self interest here at all.

That all said, I'm really hoping it is played at the mighty MCG, in front of a sizable crowd.  Anything else would be somewhat hollow.

If by some chance Queensland gets locked out of Victoria, I'd give my GFG tickets to my MFC memeber sister and one of her kids.

All predicted on the basis that the mighy Demons keep delivering on feild andactually make it of course.

I understand that but by the time sponsors and higher membership levels and guaranteed  are satisfied there will be precious little left for us rabble at the bottom of the queue. We have 50k members. I think participating clubs get about 20k each. I don't like the maths. I knew a long time ago that going to a GF will be out for me. That's ok I don't have a problem with  the people who pay more getting priority. Just make it and win it and I will be happy.

You may be surprised od - my cousin and uncle are Richmond members without GF guarantee and they went to both the 2017 and 2019 GF's through the ballot. I think Richmond did preference people who had been members longer so people longer than 10 years got a higher preference.

MFC have 50k members but how many are MCC/AFL members who can get a ticket through other means? It's not a guarantee obviously but it doesn't mean there is no chance.

My view is if I don't expect to go it will be a big win if I win the lottery but if I don't it I won't be upset.

I hope I get to a pre GF game that will be a big win.

PS. I have my mind set on round 22 at the G. I hope the comp is still going of course.

I doubt it.

Last year the GF crowd was a few hundred shy of 30,000 at the Gabba.

Getting a crowd somewhere in the order of 50,000 at the MCG would be a big improvement over that and I can't see anyone, not least the AFLPA wanting to delay the big game by anything more than a couple of weeks, unless the whole of Australia was under strict lockdown.
