Sorry. Missing some punctuation. That should read another S. Hocking decision.

It has been announced that Steve Hocking has accepted appointment as Geelong's new CEO. It will be interesting to see how his time at AFL HQ will be remembered. Overall, I think he's been a positive, but that's not to say I agree with everything he's done.

The 6 6 6 rule has made no difference

Standing the mark has made little difference once the Coaches had time to study it.
there is only ONE way to open up the game to have high scoring

Reduce Interchange Rotations by a lot more, it is the rule change that bought in congested play. Before then, the game was man on man.

Brad Scott to replace him.

I can take it or leave it, but 6-6-6 does create opportunities out of the middle. The problem is that other than the four bounces to start the quarter, somebody's got to kick a goal to make it a factor. Not much point if the ball is being kicked from one end to the other for 20 minutes without a goal.

Fair Points.
But even at those Ball up moments, any less congestion only lasts 5-10 seconds Max.

It is a Band Aid Rule, like all the others, because they do not want to admit that the Interchange Rule bought in by Kevin Sheedy has changed the absolute fundamentals of the game.
There are now 4 positions on the field

Defender, Midfielder, Forward & Ruckman

Before that, there were 18 specific positions

Quite comfortably the worst and most disliked official in AFL history I would imagine.

Adrian Anderson says hi....

I wouldn't get excited about him leaving, everything he did was under instruction of the league, they'll just hire somebody else to be the public face of ineffectual stuffing around with the rules and the circle will continue.

No, the AFL buckled on this one.

The umpires have not enforced the rule as they did in the earlier rounds unfortunately.

It didn't suit Geelong for one...

Really? Why do you say that? (Serious question.)

I would have thought that Demetriou would win the "most disliked" prize.

They're letting players waltz through the protected zone to cut the quick play on...it's subtle but is happening.

It was enforced early in the season but not now. It has to be absolutely obvious now.

I think it has made a eunuch of the rule...

Does that mean we can longer yell out "Ball!!!"?

Is this so Geelong's ageing list can keep up with the competition? Hate to say but Geelong between the start of the season and now have gone from missing the 8 to a top 4 contender. I love a good conspiracy!

Oh my god. I could not stand that [censored]. His name still makes me quiver.

Ok gotcha.

I will watch that closely, as that basically negates the rule change.
One of the main problems with the game is that rules are not adhered to. No other game i have ever watched is so rubbery on having strict rules

Don’t get me started on incorrect disposal!!!

Cats keep on getting.

Hocking back to Cats with whatever advantages in place.

Brad Scott possible replacement and brother of Cats Coach.

Labour Government pouring money into the club which is in a labour seat.

Players stand in a random spot and then the ump calls “stand”.   Or they have to guess where outside the protected zone is. More distances for the umps to ‘measure’ accurately.

They are shuffling their feet.

Going before the umps call play on.

Early in the season they would get a 50.

Sometimes the umps are slow to call stand.

Some of the decisions he made weren't really made in the interests of Geelong.

No,no,no not at all far from it, it was always in the best interests of the AFL.

He did a fantastic job.

He couldn't have jumped quicker at the chance to get back to the [censored] Palace though could he?

He has done more to destroy the spirit and essence of the game of Aussie Rules football than anyone in its history, sidestepping what should be checks and balances against such behaviour.  He is widely despised!

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
