Fritsch for Brown...get real

We need some more forward power

Without Petracca and a couple of lucky goals...Jordan 100 metre penalty...T Mac after the Essendon player knocked himself out on the behind post..

We lost the match

Yeah... so that actually what happens when you don't kick goals in any game, you lose the match.

But cheers C Obvious.

The simpletons continue to say nonsensical things.

The knocks on Fritsch are absolutely fair. And the fact that his name has come up as a forward to drop is justified and reasonable.

We all know his strengths and that he is a weapon offensively. But those strengths have been absent for the last two games and due to his mostly incompetent efforts and willingness join in defensively, then his place in the side should obviously be up for discussion.

Posters should really stop bringing up his what he's don't previously. It's irrelevant. This is a rolling season and our players must be contributing weekly of they want to keep their spot.

Fritsch might be given another chance this weekend but it wouldn't surprise me if he was dropped.

BB deserves another chance a Jones is next in line.

BB for Fritsch imo. But I imagine they'll go with BB for Sparrow.

If they ever drop fritsch I’ll burn down the MFC

In case you didn't notice Essendon had a few lucky goals as well, they happen in every match.

The knocks on Fritsch are fair - he can go missing and his pressure is not always good. But that equating to him being dropped is a long bow to draw.  He is our best goalkicker and is finally kicking straight.  our most marks inside 50. He also sets up a lot of goals.  He will benefit greatly from BB coming in. A lot of medium fwds go missing in games especially when the games are tighter and more contested in winter

Out best fwd line is  BB / T mac / LJ / Kozzi  / Spargo / ANB.  replace BB with Weed is form warrants it.  right now we dont have enough marking targets inside 50

Dropping Fritsch is a long bow - but he's not in your best forward line set-up. OK ...

I don't think Pickett needs a rest

He needs reps and games.

He needs some good coaching (which no doubt will happen) about positioning and doing the fundamentals over the flashy at the moment

I would just set him some very basic tasks to achieve the next few weeks without asking him to push up the ground.  Focus on getting the front and square crumbing work happening as well as his pressure aspect.  Add to that some help with penetration on his kicking and kicking through the pill.  At the momentfrom what i'm seeing as an amateur he appears to be leaning back on that final step and pulling most of his kicks.

Reckon he'll get back to doing what he's best at if the FD work on the basics above before asking too much up the ground / through the middle etc.  Get the basics right first and hopefully from there the belief and confidence will grow ....form should follow from there.

After Goody's presser and comments about Pickett's pressure numbers I recall my earlier statement.

Still believe we need Brown in ASAP if he is now fit, as we need to sort this forward line out before finals and even before the last few weeks when we play Dogs and Cats.

Brown in and Sparrow out

Yea not sure how our leading goal kicker isn’t in our best fwd line. He is 2nd player selected after Tmac atm up fwd, as much as pressure and tackles can help it’s ultimately about kicking goals and over the year he is doing that better than anyone else

Agree.  Cant edit my post now.  best fwd set up:

Out best fwd line is  BB / T mac / LJ / Fritsch / Kozzi  / Spargo

We generally play 7 forwards to allow for rotations, so there's still room for ANB. However, under this model, Pickett and possibly ANB might have to chip in to assist with on ball rotations.

Is this a dig at us or a compliment?

We've scored 70 or more in 11 of our 14 games.

Our opponents have scored 70 or more in 5 of our 14 games.

Compliment, yeah?

that's too logical, tu ?

I think the weather will probably go against including Brown this weekend.

Looking at rain and periods of hail...for Saturday afternoon.

Hardly the stuff of key forwards.

If anything we might go in even smaller.

...but I suspect no change.

Ill bring the matches

Hes had a couple of quiet games but hes a leading goal kicker.

Its tough when its three on one against him of late as in the dons game.

Third hand word.  but is the same person who told me about Brown's six week mini preseason. BB is to play seniors this week. The club really happy with his GPS numbers last week. If you watched the game on turnover BB would sprint up the centre of ground defensively and that plus he was able to get into game on scoreboard has scored him a game apparently.

Any idea who goes out Parma?

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
