If it came down to another GF, would have to prefer Geelong, just for a change. I try to focus on the positives of the team (Instead of Selwood,Scott) - I think their backline are all admirable hard working players, Toohey, Stewart, Henderson. [censored] Grimes. In the midfield, Mitch Duncan, Can Guthrie, Menegola, no arrogance there. Forwardline is harder to like so forget them.

It's s bit Like in 2006, I'd never barrack for WCE, didn't like them, but their rivalry with Sydney deserved to be an even split, so I prefered to see them win. Awful I know.

Fair points

If I had to I’d go with Richmond. The team ethos, manic pressure and of course Dusty. It’s hard to dislike Dusty.

In terms of GF I hope neither of them make it.

For me, there's some admiration for where Richmond have come from and what they've built over the past decade.

Geelong just seem to get a free ride with home games, umpiring etc etc. They have an arrogant sook for a coach. I'll acknowledge their recruitment has been really good and they have rebuilt while staying competitive. Wouldn't be surprised if they're rigging the cap to do it though

There's less entitlement about Richmond. Dubious gamesmanship which i don't like at all but they seem to be very workmanlike and team orientated.

I agree. I feel like Richmond do the work.

Geelong is harder to like as Selwood and Hawkins walked into an incredible side early on, and Cameron, Rohan, Dangerfield, Smith and Higgins all went chasing success. It’s their right, but for those of us emotionally wedded to the loyalty of one side it feels a bit dirty.

Its why I don’t like Lynch at Richmond either.

Are you suggesting we tank? Hahaha

Its now called 'Managed" , and I'm all for it.  Not sure who would miss esp now the end of season bye is in place.

If the AFL do the sensibel thing, which is usually long odds, then the bye wil be after prelim weekend.

Thus I would look at Max and Trac having a rest. Being managed that is.

Good result for is

Not really... ideally, we would want to finish top 2, and a Dogs win would have put a 2 game buffer between us and the Cats.

Didn't Ross Lyon try that with Free a few years ago (and also at Geelong)  - and it didn't work out at all well for them.

As I recall it was the stimulus / knee jerk reaction to introduce the prefinals bye.  Which in turn has slightly reduced the advantage of finishing top 4 vs 5-8.

yes, Lyon rested quite a few in the last game when finals sown up, to avoid them flying to tasmania.  Good idea by Lyon that caught the AFL napping. Who knows may have helped them make the GF that year

Correct.

It was actually 1 minute to go. 3 short passes would have ended the game.

And excellent quick decision-making by Isac Smith to avoid bombing it and picking out Rohan wh was always going to outmark any doggie in a 1 on 1.

Stupid last minute play by Dogs. Bevo would be furious .  But the game emphasisesd the importance of making Stewart accountable. Do that and their defence is vulnerable

So does TMac run him up and down the ground to break him?

How do we make him accountable?

Absolutely agree. It's totally irrelevant having separation from 1st to second but hugely important to have separation from third.

Tipping 3 boil-overs this week in Dogs to beat Geelong, Carlton to beat GWS and Hawthorn to beat Essendon.

Was hoping for a Bulldog win for that very reason. Sadly, it did not eventuate. At home, with the crowd and umpires ready for some crowd-pleasing decision-making, plus a heap of last quarter luck, Geelong got up. We will have to go super-hard against all vying teams at the top of the current ladder in the rest of this year's fixture. We can do it to ideal effect but we must sort the forward line and midfield ordinairiness.

Nailed it! Wear him out with a game-based half marathon.

I genuinely don’t understand the need for the Gold Coast Suns.

I think the Suns burnt up all their hydrogen and collapsed under their own weight a few years ago but the light just hasn't reached us yet.

along with gw$, they're there so the afl can make an extra $30m per year on the broadcast rights...

...of course, it costs $50m to support them...

For mine, it’s just a pointless club.
I don’t know, set up a club on the Mornington Peninsula. Couldn’t be worse than the nothingness that is the GCS. At least you could knick off to a winery if the team is rubbish.

Selwood to be looked at for contact to Bailey Dales face.

I see Selwood is going to be charged for whacking Bailey Dale in the head in the first quarter last night.

At least the second time this year the bogans in the seven commentary box have been sniggering about ‘ear massages’, only to watch a player get reported.

that and the China fiasco could do with some scrutiny

Suns look lost.  Dew should be sacked and replaced by Ross Lyon. The Suns need a tough experienced coach.

Like a Rocket Eade? Not sure it matters who is in charge tbh.

The Suns are a pointless ego trip for AFL HQ. Never played finals, can't keep players, losing culture, no supporters. The outlook is grim. The NRL struggle to keep the titans viable so what makes the AFL think they can make a go of the Suns.

This ends in one of two ways. The Tasmanian Suns or disbandment

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.
