Little Goffy 14,972 Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 Right on the shortlist of my favourite things to see in a game is when a player has a poor start but keeps working at it and cracks through to end with a great game. Also on that list is when a player is notably doing the team-first things more than they usually do and then find that they've ended up having one of the best games of their career. 4 Quote

It was the game where he kicked that monster goal after the siren to win the game. I think he kicked two other goals before that one, perhaps all in time-on, but perhaps not in 3 minutes. I think Neale Daniher did it one year against the Swans?? Goals from time on in the last quarter to win the game for the Dons?? Quote

"Daniher revealed on radio the day Sheeds swapped him with his brother Terry in the closing stages at Princes Park. Trailing by four goals in time on, the half back flanker moved forward and kicked the last two goals to see the Bombers home by a point. “I know why Sheeds did it, my brother Terry wasn’t getting a kick,” Daniher joked. “I said to Kevin at three quarter time, how long are you going to put up with this, any danger of getting Terry out of there? “We finally got him out of there and I went forward, we crossed over and I said to Terry, about time.” Edited August 16, 2021 by M_9 1 2 Quote

Besides I don’t want to dwell on anyone but our Bayley Fritsch.!!!! I love your passion for the Dees. (However, if you consider it impartially, three goals in time on, including one after the siren with a kick of about 70m with a heavy ball, to win a game really is a better achievement than three goals in 3 minutes for a game already won. But you're right...today it should be all about Fritsch) 1 Quote
Demonstone 23,599 Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 (edited) It was actually against Carlton at Princes Park in Round 20, 1981. The 1990 game was Neale's last when all four Daniher brothers played together. edit: Responding to Jumbo Returns. How dare somebody else post while I'm composing mine! He has now kicked 46.18 for the year. Outstanding accuracy by any measure but particularly for someone that used to look shaky in front of goal. Also brought up his 100th goal with his second major of the day. Kids a jet. Noticed the Jason Dunstall method of goal kicking this weekend just run in and kick straight over the man on the mark!! 1 Quote

Once the confidence drops/it's a tight game the goal kicking is less reliable. Even the relatively easy shots are missed. Quote
olisik 4,060 Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 Funny how Peter Wright got #1 in top 10 highlights for the week for his 7 goals but Fritsch didn’t even make 10th spot. Seems a goal by David Mundy directly in front is more impressive. Am i the only one who finds that top 10 completely bias against the dees (and always more favourable to interstate teams?) Quote

Didn't predict this day out. He actually got a free directly in front as well which fell in Petraccas lap to advantage for a goal. Quote

In the whole scheme of things who cares? Just some AFL journos opinions. You, me and all other Demon supporters know he kicked seven. Most other AFL supporters will know as well. I don't need the AFL website to tell me what's important. 1 Quote

Well done Bayley Fritsch what an exhibition of great kicking in swirly conditions. Go Bayley, Go Dees. !!!!!!!! Sorry Bayley I just watched the last quarter again it was 3 goals in 1:38, that is amazing.!!!!! 3 Quote

Don't get me wrong I love Bailey and kicking 7 in any game is impressive. But Wright did it against a top 4 side, he was a catalyst in an upset win and was imposing while booting a few from beyond 50m in crucial stages to get his side over the line. Bailey kicked 7 against a mediocre side that gave him so much space and time. He kicked those last three in junk time when the game was done and dusted. He was too skilled, classy and smart for the opposition. Again I'm so glad he kicked the bag and should go into September full of confidence. But there's reasons why it wasn't as impressive to the AFL media than Wrights game. 2 Quote

I thought he was joking with that comment altho there couldn't be too many more players that have kicked 3 goals in less time. Not sure they would have the stats for that going back very far... 1m 26s left is the very definition of junk time goals! Quote
