Just as another thought pattern, would there be any chance of the NT changing allowances by a couple of days?

Just getting creative we could get the match moved to Monday night giving us a week to prepare for the Pies the following week. Might not help tourism wise but we still get the chance to play up there.

If not Alice lets just go to the Gabba. Will get a good crowd. We take the gate. Best thing for footy.

No way. Don’t want to play Brisbane in Brisbane ?

On the fox coverage the thought was Friday night at the SCG. But speculation at this point in time

Agree. It’s either the NT as scheduled but if the health issues prevent NT,  the SCG is a good option. Might have a 2000-3000 crowd.

I wonder whether this decision may be made quite late in the piece.

The situation in Victoria is going to be a hell of a lot clearer in 2-3 days. The numbers will either flatline/decrease, and the panic will subside, or they will increase, and the lockdown will become a longer-term thing.

If it's the former (and let's all hope that's the case), the NT government may decide the risk is small enough given the players have been isolating for a while now and are returning negative results. There's a major financial incentive for the NT to get the game going in Alice on a standalone Friday night with the two best sides in the comp (I'm not suggesting finances should win over public health but it's just a factor).

If it can't go ahead in Alice, I imagine the AFL will offer us (as the home team) options, and those options are likely to be the two NSW stadiums, as I suspect NSW is least likely to kick up a fuss about us coming into their state.

Yep. NSW is the only state in this country that appears to have a premier with more than one functioning brain cell.

You live in Alice don't you rgrs?

I'm assuming its a pretty important match for the nt government in terms of promoting tourism. Particularly now that people can't travel overseas.

A genuine Friday night blockbuster. Massive ratings. The best bang for bucks of any of these matches.

And it would be a big hit for the local economy. A friend looked at accommodation with thought of flying up.  Completely full.

The dees are in iso all week and will have daily tests probably. Could fly in on Friday morning and book a hotel area and be isolated. Then bus to the game. Flt out next day.

What's the sense about the likelihood of it going ahead? Or how keen the government is for it to?

Yes, my son was (hopefully still is, but not expecting it) going to be doing Auskick, as he was last year before the women’s game was a lock out.

It’s a great time here, with the Finke desert race over the Queens birthday weekend, it is huge for Alice Springs. Unfortunately the government here really just focus on Darwin, it is where all the seats are, so am a bit worried about us getting screwed, but they have changed border restrictions overnight, so it does depend on what happens in the next 4 days, but am still hopeful.

...and Brisbane has the bye.

However, problem: Ch.7 unlikely to give up the Friday night 'blockbuster'. AND, worse, the same influence may want to chase the crowds; thus Carrara, to tap the Brisbane critical mass, may be the 'neutral' outcome?...

Maybe the Tassy Government would throw some bucks at us to play there.

Less time to travel for us, we are more acclimatised to the weather than up north.

Next would be Canberra,  though I like the idea of Albury.

SCG as a last resort.

Not the Gold Coast.

If the Lions would swap a future home game to us, then they could think about playing in Brissy.

Please not North Queensland.

The only deal I would do (aside from those dollars as well) would be that in the event of a final this year against us no matter who’s home game it is, we play it at the G. Would be a big gamble on the Lions part.

I agree that would definitely be something Seven would have to clear, but on the other hand Monday night footy actually rated quite well last season. An opportunity to give it a really big match. Fact of the matter is that someone will be put out by all of this whether it’s us, the Lions, or Seven. I would also only make it Monday night if it allowed the game to be played in Alice, otherwise we relocate it.

As long as Albury ain’t Lavington - ask Ox about that place.

Giants stadium please. We were good there last year.

Technically lockdown ends on Thursday so why can’t we play it at the MCG (if NT won’t let us in) so we can all go and make up for not going last Friday.

Just because lockdown ends doesn’t mean other states lift restrictions

Airlie Beach sports park.

Currently undergoing an upgrade to enable parking for a donut van and coffee stall.

Covid free area with an AFL following population.

I think it's the safe and sensible option.

(and about 5 minutes walk from my place)

...which was your original premise, Pates, and I agree ?; pointless otherwise.

I’m doubting lockdown will end in Thursday night and as someone else said that does not change the QLD government’s policy on letting Brisbane come to Victoria and return when there might still be a risk.

it might be 2 weeks of no cases before any states allow their teams to return to Victoria.

Agree but there's no reason why Brisbane couldn't relocate to Melbourne for a few weeks.

If lockdown ends on Thursday I’ll eat my hat. They’ll wait to get thru an entire 14 days incubation cycle given the number of exposure sites and the consistency of case numbers.

Now we 'know' (?): Damo on Ch9 footy show, 'working the phones'... "It won't be in Alice, it'll most likely be in NSW, which had a game-free weekend"

If the game is in Sydney, presuming Vic is out of lockdown on Thursday night, would we be able to go?

I’m pretty happy with how our premier and his one functioning brain cell has gone managing this pandemic ?‍♂️

How many return international travelers do you guys down in Tassie take? How about your population density?
In the famous words of Jimmy Rees “shut up Tasmania” ?

I will just have to start working the phones tomorrow, call every Alice parliamentarian, numerous calls to CM’s office (numerous voices), demanding they let the game go ahead!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
