South Australia border closures:

"From midnight tonight, people coming to the state from Melbourne, Geelong and Bacchus Marsh will need to quarantine for two weeks.

Anyone coming from other parts of the Victoria will need to undergo testing on days one, five and 13, but will not have to isolate once they get their first test result.

The 70 kilometre border bubble with Victoria will continue.

Plans to lift border restrictions with south eastern Queensland have been cancelled, but testing requirements will be lifted for people coming from Townsville and Birdsville"

This adds further weight to the thought teams that flew to Qld today will be playing SA teams (and maybe WA) teams in SEQ in rounds 19-20.

My son lives in Poland (great vaccination rate) and right now he and his fiancée are holidaying in Italy. Italy!!! No masks, no quarantining, no social-distancing.

Actually, that's not at all true:

"Wearing a face mask is always mandatory in indoor public places throughout Italy.
Masks are no longer mandatory outdoors, but you must always carry one with you and wear it if you find yourself in crowded conditions that do not allow the 1 metre safety distance to be maintained."

As for quarantine, you only escape it if you're fully vaccinated, and even then, arrivals from some countries still have to do the negative test/quaratine routine.

Same as for most European countries.

St Kilda will probably have to fly out today.

Are they seriously going to lock us down with 5 minutes notice??? Just make an announcement already. Can’t be hard to copy and paste the last 4 lockdowns!

They're delaying the decision out of an abundance of caution,

what is it about AFL players travelling on planes in winter in footy shorts.

Noticed MFC last week travelling to Adelaide and other teams today to Brisbane.

If you’re in Melbourne, go get takeaway from your local restaurant tonight and save the massive food wastage these businesses are about to have thanks to a last minute lockdown. Absolute balls.

pants are part of the soft cap.

Sick of lockdowns being handled like PR exercises. leak the chance of a lockdown to the press, warn school. wait 3-4 hours for word to get out and everyone to emotionally come to terms with the chance of a lockdown

Just [censored] do it already!

The one highlight of this year with being unable to travel or book any events has been football. Being robbed of going to games is just another kick in the guts.
It’s getting harder and harder to find any joy in living in this state.

It’s 3 notoriously headline seeking Medicos in the US who reject the need for randomised controlled trials (RCT) to legitimise drug efficacy. The entire medical model of medication-based therapy (prevention and cure) is based on RCTs. Ivermectin has not met any standards of efficacy in RCTs. That is science. Any quoting of its positive effect anecdotal, and we went down this route early with hydroxychloroquine. It’s a distraction to create notoriety and fuel spurious reportage. If only we could put all that energy into the KNOWN EVIDENTIAL SCIENCE - vaccination and effective quarantine , we’d be a lot happier and healthier.

University of Oxford have commenced a trial. It's properly supported and funded by the UK government so we'll soon know once and for all whether this drug is effective of not

Are games in Melbourne still likely to go ahead...just without crowds? Sorry if i missed info on this already

Haven’t mentioned footy. Assume the games will go ahead without crowds.

Chairman Dan has been babbling on for over half an hour and I still havn't heard anything about footy crowds or distances travelled etc. Presume it is the same as last time.

Anyway the real guess is how long is this really going to last ? I am going to say 5 weeks.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
