Returning Australians should be forced to do 21 days quarantine at a facility of their departure country before they jump on a plane in order to ensure they don’t test positive 15 or 16 days after possible transmission.

If a facility cannot be arranged, then they don’t come back.
Then they do their 14 days quarantine when arriving Australia.

The majority (5 million Victorians) shouldn’t  have to put their life on hold for the minority (returned traveller).

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk received the Pfizer vaccine in Brisbane on Monday, after criticism she had been left behind by other state leaders who already had their jabs.

Despite being in the recommended age group for the AstraZeneca vaccine - people aged 50 or older - Ms Palaszczuk received the Pfizer jab due to her coming overseas travel plans.

She said she had the jab in case she travels to Tokyo for the Olympics. What sort of message is she sending out?! Everyone should get vaccinated for the greater good, not coz you might wanna go overseas!

Completely agree with you. However, I suspect the point she was trying to make was an attempt to explain why she had the Pfizer instead of AZ vaccine. It would be because the second dose of the former is given three weeks later (and before any possible trip to Tokyo) while the AZ second dose is given 12 weeks after the first, which might be too late. Nevertheless, clumsy messaging.

In South Australia the CHO told them to duck and cover if a football comes into the crowd. They also shut the state down because of a pizza box on her advise.

In Victoria we have Socialist Sutton who loves the limelight as much as a lockdown.

In NSW they have a CHO who seems to understand risk and gives advise accordingly. They are doing the heavy lifting in regards to bringing expats back into the country and don't have lockdowns like us. This new evil strain apparently came from NSW but they are not in lockdown.

I hope you enjoyed watching our gutsy win against Brisbane on Friday night. The team are really starting to deliver on their promise to members of a more consistent on-field effort. Ideally the game would have been played in Alice Springs, however once the Northern Territory border closure was activated we worked extremely hard with the AFL to secure GIANTS Stadium as an alternative venue to allow the match to continue.
 
This venue change allowed us to remain in the primetime Friday night time slot, so that our supporters all around Australia could watch and enjoy the exciting clash. Furthermore, by moving the game to Sydney it also gave 3,500 of our NSW supporters the opportunity to attend the game live, which was terrific. While small in numbers, the Dees supporters were vocal and passionate, especially in the last half which was noted by the players who appreciated the energy at such a crucial stage of the game.
 
On Friday, the Club also agreed to move the Queen’s Birthday blockbuster from the MCG to the SCG. It was a tough call as the MCG is our home, but again the Queen’s Birthday blockbuster has been built on the back of big crowds and the rivalry of two of Melbourne’s most passionate and traditional clubs. Our decision to relocate the game was due to the fact that we did not want our game postponed or played without crowds and therefore without atmosphere.  A key part of the decision, was to ensure our Melbourne based supporters could enjoy the huge event broadcast with the atmosphere of a live crowd. From a live crowd perspective, we hope to be represented by over 10,000 of our NSW Dees supporters who we trust will inspire the team to twelve wins for the season. 
 
I hope all supporters can appreciate that while moving these games, the club has been trying to balance the two key priorities of our supporter game day experience and our commercial returns. The first priority is ensuring we can give our supporters access to the games both via broadcast or stadium attendance. Are you aware of the recruitment / selection process in SA and Vic? That is, are you sure it’s not on merit? Yes the SA CHO ball quip was very poor messaging but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t have the skill set generally. I am in NSW so am rather objective in this regard.

Unfortunately, this does feel like something we're going to have to live with, my in-laws had the vaccine in the last couple of weeks and both have had particularly strong side effects, and within the people i know, that's been a bit of a consistent theme, so hopefully that's not deterring anyone from getting the vaccine. 

I'm not sure what the solution is football wise to try and keep the season on track, it's not ideal if teams have some of their best players leaving indefinitely to return home though, a few of our boys have very young families and i'm a little bit concerned that may be a situation for us if the lockdown extends too much longer/visitations from families remain impossible

To deter people from being deterred, I've had the AZ shot and had no side effects except a possible mild headache for about 1 hour the following day. (I say "possible", because the headache might have been unrelated to the vaccination.)

Go get vaccinated as soon as you can, people.

But I might add that I have been trying to get vaccinated ever since the Vax has been available 

The problem was not that people didn't want to. It was  the way it was organised and the qualifications to be vaccinated made many wait 3 or 4 months

And now we are blamed I cannot believe the incompetence on display over this

Sounds like we'll be out of lock down on Friday. Would guess schools are back, 50% work capacity, 20 people outdoor gatherings, no house guests, masks inside, masks outside if you can't social distance. Hospitality open but capacity limits.

Really hoping we can get back to the footy for the Essendon game which will be 2 weeks after the first easing of restrictions - I guess 50% capacity at best with masks.

The GWS MCG game might be looking ok as that's 3 weeks away.

This year's looking too special (touch wood) to be playing games in front of 3,000 people in Sydney while the rest of us are watching in our lounge.

I hope you are not begrudging us Sydneysiders having the opportunity of watching our team play live - instead of watching it from our lounge rooms, as we almost exclusively do? If you Melbournites behave yourselves (covid wise) we may let the team back to play at the G one day.

No not at all. Good luck to you Sydney guys for being able to attend a few games in person.

However, we're the Melbourne footy club and we need to get back to the G asap, and get re-accustomed to playing at the venue where most of this year's finals will be played. This week will mark 4 matches in a row away from the G.

Not sure if this deserved a thread on it's own, but it'll be Covid based in a lot of ways, but our last 2 games have been the highest rating TV games for the season! While we might miss out on some gate receipts, having a lot of eyes on us will be great for our sponsors and future sponsors, and what's better we won both playing attractive footy!

Nobody would have picked Melbourne at half time last week, but it was still close enough that people wouldn't turn off.

Same with the Dogs game.

Great for us, and vindication to the AFL that we deserve more prime time going forward.

What does an "average television audience of 7.75 million people" mean? Whatever it means, I'm very doubtful that the number (whatever it's measuring) was 7.75 million people. That's about one-third of the total population of Australia. Maybe she didn't mean "average" and meant cumulative audiences?

We let the doggies back in with some cheap ones at the end of the 2nd quarter and then the first bit of the 3rd and a lot of the last was a slog. Apart from the lack of atmosphere it was decent for neutrals. The Lions game was even better with the major downside being the remote callers and fake crowd noise.

But overall it’s a lot better than those years when Carlton, Coll or Ess were rubbish and getting 5 Friday nights a year.

I know people don’t like it for travel reasons and planning but overall I feel a flexible Friday night fixture has to stay. I’d fixture games for Saturday or Sunday each round and then pick the best of the Saturday games 4-6 weeks out to be the Friday night.

Each game has an average audience. Ie. how many people watched in a minute or some other measurement across the duration of the game. More would’ve flicked it on or off but 1M watched our Friday night games, or 1 in 25 of the Aus population.

3.7M people watched all the games combined in round 11. 4M people watched round 12. (Excluding streaming).

The 7M is all the games (measured by average audience) added together. So yeah, it’s cumulative.

I think what they've done is add up the average viewer figures for all of the games.
